What happens when the planet of meaning and expansion is swallowed by the Sun's light? In the ancient astrological tradition, this is called combustion — a kind of death before rebirth. But this is not a literal death. It is a psychological and spiritual threshold, one where our grandest visions, our most cherished beliefs, and even our identities are refined in the fire of humility.
Right now, Jupiter is approaching its Cazimi with the Sun in Leo, a moment that resets its entire synodic cycle. Before that rebirth, something must be released. This is the astrology of the heart — of overpromising and underdelivering, of pride softening into genuine confidence, of stories we have outgrown finally loosening their grip. It asks us: where have you been excessive, and where is your heart asking for something simpler, truer, more aligned?
This video explores five themes to watch for during Jupiter's combustion: confidence and humility, the collapse of old stories, the purification of recognition, generosity versus excessiveness, and a renewed sense of purpose. These are not abstract concepts. They are the lived texture of this transit, showing up in your relationships, your work, and your inner life.

Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
The Sun has entered the sign of Leo, which means Jupiter is now combust. Jupiter is burning up, ill, sick, ready to die. These are all metaphors that ancient astrologers used to describe a planet under combustion, but it also means that Jupiter's synodic reset is close at hand. The Cazimi, the moment of the exact conjunction between the Sun and Jupiter, will reset that cycle.
We're going to take a look at this process, which is now unfolding in the next week today, and I'm going to give you a list of things to watch for given the combustion of Jupiter and some themes that you might notice in your life. Some of these will be a little bit of a repeat because we've been looking at this transit from a variety of angles now for the past month in a number of different episodes, including some this week.
But I think that there's enough that will be unique and new about this. And plus, if you're a student of astrology, hopefully you'll learn something more about the synodic cycles and the meaning of combustion. But before we get into that, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments, share your reflections. It helps the algorithm pick up on what we're doing.
We really appreciate when you subscribe; it's free to do so. Give us a little thumbs up. Transcripts of all these daily talks can be found on the website. That's nightlightastrology.com. A couple of brief promotions for the day: go to the events page, click on monthly webinars. Tomorrow night, I'm giving a talk on the dark side of astrology: malefics, eclipses, and retrogrades.
We are going to talk specifically about what makes Mars transits, Saturn transits, Pluto and Uranus transits difficult. Specifically, why it is okay to be a little legitimately worried about those planets when they're transiting in your natal chart or in the sky, but also what they tend to bring that is really constructive. So hopefully, this would be a really balanced way of talking about malefic transits, eclipses, retrogrades-the ones that everyone goes, "Oh God!
But there, I think there are reasons to think that way. We shouldn't just try to make everything super positive, but at the same time, we want to understand what healing potential or what learning can take place, what healing can take place specifically with each different kind of transit. So that's the goal of this talk. Check it out tomorrow night.
If you can't attend live, of course, as always, when you register, you get the webinar either way as a recording. But you can join tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time. Go to the shop page. My book is on sale. The Oracle Speaks. Check it out. This is a brand new book that I wrote.
Everything that I know about astrology, but rather than in textbook form, I've really tried to put it into story form and encrypt it, like the ancient astrologers did. Try to hide teachings and stories in a sense, although it wasn't. You know, it wasn't. I think some of the way this happens when you're writing is very natural.
In fact, storytelling contains a lot of wisdom that you don't even have to try to include if you just tell a good story, but anyway, I hope you'll check it out. The Audible version should be coming out later this summer. Finally, go to events, click on Community Quiet. You can see that we have meditation seven days a week at Nightlight.
Come sit with us. It's free. The schedule's right there. Everything you know about it is also right there. Hope to see some of you out there soon. Okay, let's put up Nachepso and take a look. So here we are looking at Wednesday, July 22 and a couple of things to point out here.
First of all, you can see that the sun is at the anaretic critical degree today, and will pass into Leo shortly. So let's advance this by some hours, and we'll see that it's by this afternoon that the sun enters Leo. This is about 3 p.m. Central Time, U.S. time zone, of course. And once that happens, the sun in Leo, Sun and Jupiter, are now in the same sign.
Sun is in the sign of its rulership, and moving toward Jupiter in Leo. Now, my experience with cazimis that take place and combustions that take place while the sun is in the sign of Leo is typically that there's in my humble opinion when the sun is in Aries or Leo combustion is a little bit easier and I say that just because the sun is well dignified.
Now there are exceptions to that. I don't want to say that it's just generically good, but in my experience, the sun's potency is a little-it's a little bit-it's a little bit more potent and it's a little bit more benefic when it's in its own sign. That doesn't mean the combustion is gone or doesn't count if you're studying technical ancient astrology, but it does mean to me that it's just slightly more, almost like generous or benevolent to the planet that it is consuming.
In this case, Jupiter. Jupiter Sun combinations in general are also, in my experience, sort of brilliant and dazzling. The two planets can come together and bring about some really potent and beneficent significations because Jupiter is the great benefic, and when the sun gets together with Jupiter, we typically see some of the gregarious, big-hearted, generous themes.
Now that doesn't mean you couldn't see a big ego either, but I do like the combination from the standpoint of some potentially really generous solar regal. It reminds me of a very inspiring teacher. You know who has actually coming to my mind? I showed my kids the movie Dead Poets Society recently, and I'm thinking of Robin Williams.
Can't remember what Robin Williams had in Leo, but there was I think maybe it was even Pluto Mercury in Leo or something like that. But anyway, there was something in Leo. Okay, I just checked because I had to. It was Mercury and Pluto together in Leo, so he has that radiant kind of quality, and it really reminds me of his role, like Patch Adams, or his role as the genie in Aladdin, or even Mr. Keating in Dead Poets Society, kind of a heroic big heartedness, and I think that's the real promise of this combination.
So before we go and talk about Jupiter getting totally burnt up and dying a sad, hard death, let's just mention that some of these combustion combinations really depend on the planets. So in this case, I think there are some good things here to look forward to. Well, over the next days, we're going to see that this window gets tighter.
Now, as the combustion is occurring, the sun will go through in opposition to Pluto. That's on July 27th. We're going to be looking at that next Monday. That's a very powerful transit occurring as the sun and obviously Jupiter's just separating from Pluto, so the sun sort of reactivating that connection. And then we're going to see on the day of the full moon, the 29th, that Jupiter is Cazimi.
That is a place where Jupiter becomes royal, and already a royal planet in a royal sign. What a force, really. Jupiter being reborn here has a very big-hearted quality to it. It's courageous and bold, but it has to go through a bit of a death before it gets there. And the full moon is going to make this rebirth a very powerful kind of moment for Jupiter.
So I've got a list of five things to watch for, given the combustion, the death, the rebirth of Jupiter that I want to go through with you today. Let's start with on my list is confidence and humility. The combination of these two themes. When we have big visions for our life, when we have big plans or strong convictions, or we make big promises, or in the ancient world, it might have been a big oath that you make.
There will come a time where you have overpromised, and in order to be in your dignity, in order to be in your integrity, you have to go to someone and say, "I'm sorry, I cannot fulfill what I thought I could, and we may have to do that with ourselves. Maybe the oath or promise we made to ourselves is one where we thought I was going to become something, I was going to do something, and I have to let it go.
I'm going to give you an example because I love to share personal stories on this channel. To me, personal storytelling is where it's at. I love reading your stories. I love listening to client stories. I love sharing stories in our meditation group. To me, storytelling is one of the things I've always been most fascinated by, and I like listening to them as much as I like telling them.
I hope to be the kind of grandpa someday if my kids have kids, where I'll get to sit around and my grandkids will want to hear fun stories. That's my little vision. Anyway, here's the thing: there was a Jupiter transit in a square to the location of this Jupiter transit. So when Jupiter was in Taurus, and during that time, I was really getting enthusiastic about my bodybuilding hobby-it's a lifestyle.
It's about health. All the right reasons for doing it for me have always been about health, wellness, longevity, taking care of myself, feeling good about myself just for me. But when Jupiter was in Taurus, I got the idea that maybe at some point I would try to participate in an amateur bodybuilding competition just for fun, because it was a fun goal to set for myself and to have out in front of myself.
But as I've gotten deeper into bodybuilding, been doing it for five years now, my coach and I had a meeting recently, just recently, as Jupiter and Pluto are opposing, and we started talking about whether or not we want to go into the next year or two of contest prep mode. Again, just to say I did it, not to compete, not to win.
Just like the person who does a marathon in six days, just to say they did it. This is where I'm at. Just to say, I did it, and when we met, I was just talking about what your goals are right now, and I was talking about the books that I'm writing, and I was talking about my kids and everything that's going on in my life, and we went through the amount of intensity and focus and everything that it would take to go into contest prep mode in the next year or two.
And I realized that I'm not going to have the time to do that because of my other commitments, and it was a really hard thing for me because I had to look at myself and a goal that I had set for myself, something that I was really hoping I could do, and say, I overpromised. I overpromised something to myself that I can't deliver on now. My priorities have changed a little bit, and I'm realizing that's just going to be too much.
So I'm just going to stay with this as a healthy lifestyle. That for me was swallowing my pride, just personally, you know, not because I needed to prove anything to anybody else, because it would have been something that would have been just like a silly. I'm not silly, but it would have been just an amateur thing. But that was really hard for me, guys. I'm not gonna lie.
I sat with that for months after writing what my first book concluded. I was like, I don't know how I'm going to do this and do contest prep. Like that's crazy. So that's an example that I wanted to share with you guys in case it's useful. You might have a grand vision, a conviction, and you may have reached a point where you overpromise something, and you just have to go. I can't do that.
It is so hard to admit to someone else that you've promised to some-I mean, even think about for me-it's like even if I tell someone I'm going to go out and then I just can't do it. Have you ever had that experience where it's so hard to be like, I just need to stay in. I don't have a good reason. It's not you, you know. I just don't want to go out.
And sometimes it's good to keep a promise and just do it because you said you would do it, but there are times in our lives where we have to have the humility to admit that we can't do something that we said we thought we would or we could or whatever. So humbling realities like that can go in so many different directions, where we may have to strip back some kind of exaggeration that we've told to ourselves.
We may in order to actually feel better about ourselves. Sometimes less is more. Sometimes we have to say the big heroic notion of me is actually really draining and exhausting. As Jupiter is opposing Pluto, similarly pulling back some of the amount of content production on the channel, you might have seen that announcement recently. These are the kinds of things I've been noticing in my own life.
What have you been noticing? I'd really love to hear from you guys and hear some of your stories as well. Where do we build healthy confidence, and how do we build it? What does it look like to have healthy goals, ambitions, and what builds sustainable confidence? Where is humility necessary? These are questions right now that we can look at.
Number two would be the collapse of stories we've been telling ourselves, or the let's I like the phrase the flipping the script. If it's a philosophy, very Jupitarian. If it's a belief system, if it's a teacher or teaching, if it's an old story of any kind about meaning or philosophy or belief, we may be ready to outgrow a worldview or a belief or a philosophy or even a teacher or a school, and that happens all the time.
The hope, you know, as someone who sees a lot of people come through the programs that we provide, it's always my hope that when that point comes, it won't need to come by someone going, "I need to make all of this bad so that I can go and keep evolving, I've done that in my past. I'm sure you've done that too, where there are teachers or guides in your life or people that are meaningful to you, but there comes a point where you have to individuate and do your own thing and go in your own way, and those departure points, I think a sign of our maturity is how gracefully we can make those departure points happen.
Thank you. I bless you. Thank you for the blessings. I'm going in a different direction. Remember when I had to leave my guru in the spiritual tradition and take back my given name, and some of you were on the channel around that time. Seems like ages ago now. Those experiences where you have to go in a different story is ready to take place, but you don't have to burn a bridge for that to happen.
We don't need everything to be so black and white. A new direction doesn't have to be good only because an old direction is bad. You know what I mean. So, but either way, think about guiding stories and how they're shifting right now. That's a good one for Jupiter combust. Now, the next one is around recognition. All of us need to feel recognized externally and internally.
People who are like, "Oh, the only recognition you need is within your own heart," you know, like how true is that? That's not true. I think my daughter needs to show me her art. You know, my other daughter's like, "Look at my flip! Look at my flip, and then she kicks her sister in the face. Whether it's let me show you how I can do my backbend or whatever, all these things that kids do, we never ever change.
We are always beings who will need to show people our shine. Look at me, and as we go along, we learn how to curate our creative self-expression, such that we know who to share it with, who is safe and good and healthy to share it with, and when and how. And we also go through periods of time where we have to learn about those things and sort of refine our self-expression-the where, the when, the how, the who of how we share it, because we learn through what doesn't work.
And those are purifying experiences that can be painful, because sometimes it's like oh I really don't feel seen I really don't feel understood I feel invisible I don't feel loved I don't feel like there's a space for me to shine I don't feel like there's a place for me to lead I don't feel like there's a stage where the spotlight's on me and or when I do feel like it's my turn I'm not liked or these are painful things.
They go for most of us. They go all the way back to the brutal caste system of high schools. You know, all of that. But there's a lot right now that can be purified and transformed and healed around recognition. Now, the other side is the internal side, which means that we do have to learn how to find recognition from ourselves, for ourselves, with ourselves, with source, with God, with divinity.
What is that? How does that go alongside of the external? Those things are perhaps also conversing with one another right now. Internal validation, external validation. Number four, generosity and excessiveness. Now, at its worst, Jupiter in Leo can be very excessive, and the excessiveness around the combustion can be like I'm overpromising, I'm overcommitting, I'm overbelieving, I'm overspending, I'm overeating, I'm over-egoing, you know, and so the combustion can sort of exacerbate the tendency to just be on an egotistical Jupiter Sun Leo Bender.
And so simplicity, restraint, humility, discernment-all of those things might have to be lessons learned right now. Excessiveness, but on the other hand, generosity. Where can our heart get bigger, stronger, more confident, more generous, kinder, humbler-all at the same time. The best expansions of heart, mind, body, soul are usually not just about success in externally defined ways.
They're about that measure of success that everybody knows what it's like to just feel like, oh, I'm nailing it. And by that I don't mean in your job. I mean like I am becoming the person that I knew I could become. You ever felt that way? And you just feel like, man, I'm doing it. I'm growing. I'm becoming a better person. That should be our prayer.
You know, like let me be a humble, kind, good, generous, sweet person who gets better at living. It's not that you're going to be perfect, but when you keep learning and growing, you keep trying. You try to listen to the feedback that comes through your mistakes. All these things. There are times where you just go, "Man, I really feel like I'm leveling up, and I am becoming a king or a queen of the you know I'm once a king or queen of Narnia always a king or queen of Narnia in my heart."
So watch for those things. Finally, excuse me, renewed sense of purpose or meaning. Might be like you know sometimes you have things that really matter in your heart that have mattered for you for a long time, but especially as we age and we go through trials and we're tested and we have to show up day in and day out in what can feel like just a spin cycle of middling everyday mundane repetitiveness.
Sometimes it feels like the heart fire is not quite as alive, especially as we age. Many of my clients that have come in, and let's say they're 45 to 75, in that range, it's very common for my clients to say, "I just don't feel like my purpose is over, but it feels like I need to reignite it. It's easy to lose track of our sense of purpose and passion in the heart.
I'm willing to actually suffer a little bit if my heart feels alive while I'm doing it. So that renewed sense of purpose can come through beliefs being burned away right now, pride being humbled, a new better kind of confidence being built, or your ambitions being purified somehow. Taking a look at excessiveness and getting some control over it, a deeper, purer sense of heart fire is burning right now.
I think those are my thoughts. I hope that this has been useful. Remember that combustion, as the light of the sun is swallowing up the planet, is depicted as sickness, death, and then followed by rebirth, a weakness, or the planet getting burnt up can almost be co-opted and overwhelmed. For example, one very shadowy version of this would be someone abusing the law, and I'm just making this up because let's say Jupiter is the law, and the sun is a lawmaker or the head of a company or something, and the sun going over Jupiter would be like, I'm going to use the law however I want to use it to accomplish something.
And that kind of co-opting of the sun over Jupiter is sometimes depicted really in any kind of combustion where the sun comes over the other planet, and the other planet becomes strong-armed by the sun. So if Jupiter's getting strong-armed by the sun, you could see how someone would take advantage of a position of, you know, maybe like a lawgiver or someone who uses the law in a loophole kind of way. So there are shadows that come with it, right?
But I'm trying to focus specifically right now on what we could be learning personally, psychologically, spiritually, and I'll leave the mundane forecasting to those whose focus is on the collective. All right, that's what I've got. I hope you're having a fantastic day. It's interesting to be alive, and I'm glad to be alive with you. Bye.

I love the way you are working here. Thank you for elucidating with clarity and kindness, pointing the way toward fuller integrity and light. Health and happiness on your life brother.
