This isn't about cursed retrogrades or manifesting magic; it's about the raw material of a human life. It's about the fateful moments where our deepest attachments and most powerful desires come up for review. We'll explore how this astrology asks us to hold the tension between our need for fusion and our need for boundaries, between the erotic and the safe, and to see our desires not as enemies, but as profound, if difficult, teachers.

Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Happy Monday. Everyone. Today we are going to take a look at Mercury retrograding through the sign of Scorpio and connecting with Venus in Scorpio.
This is one of a number of really important events this week for both Venus and Mercury, which we're going to be unpacking as the Week continues. But today we'll start with mercury retrograde and Venus joining in Scorpio for a kind of intimate conversation. Let's call it.
I'm going to give you a list of things to watch for today and some good suggestions for how to take this in and consider it alongside of your own personal process right now. So I hope that you will enjoy this and that it will be of service to you before we get into it, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments if you have comments.
If you have them, your reflections that helps the algorithm find us subscribing. We really need all your help we can get to grow this community and channel. We're trying to get to 100,000 subscribers by next summer. So if you listen regularly, click that subscribe button, it helps us tremendously.
You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on the website, which is Nightlight astrology.com right now we are in our 12th annual Kickstarter campaign. I can't believe that it's been 12 years of doing this and 12 years of receiving the support from so many wonderful people who regularly watch this content.
We are now producing content seven days a week, year round. There's a whole team and staff of people at Nightlight behind the scenes that allow for me to create this content every day. It's about three hours worth of work every single day that goes into this.
I want to take you over to the Kickstarter campaign and show you what's up as I'm recording this. It's just our first I record the videos about one week in advance. So today, we're actually on the seventh or eighth day of the Kickstarter. We're off to a good start.
The numbers you see on the screen are reflecting on the day I'm I'm recording this. We need to get to 2043 backers by New Year's Eve. We're off to a great start, but we need all of the help we can get help us start strong and finish strong all the way through every single day when people head over to the Kickstarter and pitch in a $5 donation, a $10 donation, you support this channel, you support staff, you support the production year round.
And our school is really special in that we provide need based tuition. So a huge amount of people that come through our programs are people who otherwise have very little and could not afford to take our programs, and they're able to do so because we don't have a bottom line, and we don't have a bottom line because the Kickstarter does well in the way that it functions as a sale for all of our our learning and education material.
So anyway, whatever you donate, we super appreciate it. All of the rewards that you can pick up. They're really awesome. Tons of exclusive rewards. The horoscopes for the year ahead, all 12 signs, about six hours worth of content. Your 2026 astrology report on all of the major transits. I don't release it anywhere else.
Some guided meditations, some a nice video that I've made on some thoughts on how to get started with a meditation practice if you've never had one, a calendar for the year ahead. There are some personalized readings you can pick up. You can pick up early access to the next book that I'm writing.
And then we have class passes. So you're going to learn at the end of today's video about all of the rewards. Our class passes are definitely our best deal. You're going to save. This is our best sale of the year on all of our programs.
And you can get class pass bundles that never expire, so you can use them in 2020 678, and go through our programs at whatever pace you want. So anyway, when you contribute, it really does help us a lot, and I want to thank you for everyone who's already pitched in. We really appreciate it.
And again, at the end today, you'll find a video tagged on that explains every single reward we offer. And as you're looking at those class passes and considering the bundles, if you have any questions, all of our programs are listed on the website, so you can look at all of them in depth, in case you have questions about them, or email us with any questions about any of the rewards info at Nightlight astrology.com
Okay, on that note, let's turn our attention to the real time clock, and we are going to be taking a look at this kind of spicy connection between Mercury Retrograde, it's getting close to finishing up its retrograde now, and Venus.
So here we are today, Monday, November 24 and you can see that the position of Venus and Mercury are just less than a degree apart from one another. Now I'm going to be doing some horoscopes at the end today, very brief for the fixed signs, and I'll tell you what's on my altar as well.
What I'm going to do for now is eliminate everything from our perspective, except for these two planets. And we're going to take this hour at a time, advance it, and you'll see that the two planets come into the exact conjunction this evening, November 24 Monday.
Now that conjunction is the subject of our conversation. Conjunction for the day, and like I said at the end, I'll tell you the fixed signs have it in their angular houses. So we'll look at that. We're doing some other horoscopes and a live stream later in the week.
I'll tell you more about that later. But in the meantime, let's just take a look really quickly at where this comes in the greater sequencing of the week. Oh my gosh. I have no idea what that is. Let me Here we go.
All right, so this greater sequencing of the week is important to note, because as soon as Venus separates from Mercury Retrograde, it's going to be Venus's turn to activate the Grand Water Trine. As if you all aren't sick and tired of hearing about water by now.
Here Venus goes into a trine with Jupiter. That is going to be a really nice transit to look at any time the benefics get together in a Trine. That's a nice combination really, really good one for some positive things to flow between those two planets in our birth charts.
Anyway, we'll talk more about that tomorrow as we also explore the Grand Water Trine once more. Like I said, I'll be doing a live stream probably Wednesday. We'll be live streaming and going through the Grand Water Trine once more, as well as taking a peek at Venus's upcoming opposition to Uranus.
Now, by the end, the very end of this week, we're going to find that on Saturday, Venus in Scorpio is opposing Uranus in Taurus, that reactivates the new moon that we just had around the same space. Oh, my God, is the sun? The sun's missing from my view here. Hold on. Let me put the sun back in.
Yeah, there's the sun. So later in the week, Venus opposes Uranus. Mercury will station by the weekend and then turn direct. And then it's going to be Mercury going back through the connection to Jupiter and Saturn, creating the Grand Water Trine.
And that effectively is our last Grand Water Trine in early December. So we're reaching the end of this chapter of 2025 that included the final chapter of 2025 that included a lot of water and a lot of oppositions with Uranus in the start, at the start of this last moon cycle.
So a lot of that's reiterated this week with another Grand Water Trine Mercury turning direct and then reactivating the Grand Water Trine, and several more oppositions to Uranus that will come from both Venus and Mercury. So that's what we're working with this week, and today we're just going to cover the meeting of Mercury and Venus together in Scorpio, which is today.
You'll be feeling it tomorrow, maybe fading a bit by Wednesday, but I would really place it as a today, November 24 kind of transit with some lingering effects over the next couple All right, given all of that, and I apologize I was my family took my girls to their very first Vikings game yesterday, and I was screaming and yelling so my throats all messed up.
All right, five things to watch for now, this combination, to me, is really fascinating, because when these two planets get together, and Mercury is retrograde and Scorpio is the backdrop of their connection, I think we get some really spicy combinations that add to the normal Venus Mercury repertoire.
Anyway, let's get into it. Number one on my list of things to watch for today and tomorrow, especially to start this week would be hidden desires that are surfacing, or even resurfacing thanks to the retrogradation of mercury.
By that, I mean, let's say you're someone who can't stop thinking about jelly donuts, or, more probable, you can't stop thinking about that particular person that you know probably isn't right for you, but with Mercury's retrograde, back come the jelly donuts.
You can't help it. You just have to taste that forbidden taste once more. Here it comes back. That person reaches out to you, or you reach out to them, and it's jelly donuts.
So gross. It's jelly donuts all over again. So this is the this is the issue, right? Is that Venus and Mercury together can bring desires to mind. We can't stop thinking about it. We're even a little obsessive about it.
Or we, we find ourselves unable to remove certain tastes, desires or longings from our mind and our emotional body. And it could be something that we thought we were done with, something we thought had passed us by, but it's back.
It's back. Just to test us. Are you really done with jelly donuts? Have you really. Moved past it. So these te these are good things to test ourselves with. Sometimes, also sometimes we think we're done with something.
We try to write something off because we think it's not good for us. But it's premature. There's a great line in the bhava Gita, sacred text that's all about enlightenment, one of the famous texts of India in the yogic tradition, Krishna and Arjuna are talking.
Krishna and Arjuna are talking. And Krishna says, Look, you know, false renunciation and trying to repress your desires really accomplishes nothing. In the end, you have to, in some ways, allow your desires to be your instructor.
So is it possible that right now, with Mercury Retrograde meeting Venus in the sultry, deep, somewhat secretive sign of Scorpio, that things are coming up that we thought we were better than. But you know what? Maybe you're not.
You're not as you're not as advanced as you thought you were. And that's okay, you know, I'm just trying to give us a little grace here, like it's hard, it's sometimes we know this is probably not the right thing, but sometimes you just have to burn off the desire for something they say, for example, in yogic philosophy, which shapes the entire philosophical root system of astrology in the ancient world, is a huge part of it that until the soul has no longer any desires left in this material plane, it won't go and travel to other planes, because it has to.
It has to kind of be like I came, I saw, I tasted. It was really interesting. I'm good until, until the soul sort of reaches that point naturally repressing desires, just because we you can start to feel it. It's as you're as a soul.
You're traveling through this world. You go, I've been here before, and I've had experiences, and there's something about this place that's really cyclical. It's like a roller coaster ride. The Wheel of Fortune is always turning.
I'm up, I'm down. I think I'm good, I'm not good, I think I'm not good, and then I'm good again. And it keeps going like this, and I can sort of see through it, I can sort of feel like, Hmm, maybe there's something else.
Maybe there's a different realm, maybe there's other forms of consciousness. Maybe there's a multi dimensional multiverse that I can go travel through and check out other kinds of existence or experience. Maybe I'm done with the material world, but then, but then that jelly donut, and it comes back and we just say, there's more that I want to do.
I think it becomes progressively difficult the closer we get to seeing the limits of this world, of this particular plane of existence, to continue allowing our desires to take us back into it, and yet, there's no you can't cheat the process.
So I encourage us to think about that as a Mercury Retrograde hitting Venus and Scorpio could bring up what feels like, yeah, no, this is probably going to be entangling, but there's something in me that it's like a moth to a flame.
I can't avoid this. So think about all of that right now, as Mercury's retrograde often has a way of bringing up things that we thought we were done with, or we thought were over but now we have to look at more carefully.
Sometimes we have to do it one last time to say, yep, nope, I'm really good. I'm I'm straight, I'm good. We're going so anyway, let's go on number two, psychic merging and boundary testing. I think that venus in scorpio craves depth and totality, like that feeling that I'm fully consumed or someone has fully consumed me, for example, in love or sex or emotional exchange.
And I think that sense of fusion is it's like nuclear and emotional and erotic fusion that Scorpio. I love that about Scorpio. It's so it's so rich. And there's few things that can really satisfy us emotionally, like that, few fusing quality that Scorpio brings to things.
But when Mercury comes together with Venus in Scorpio, I think it's a time where we can look at fusion, emotionally or attachments, bonds, and how close we are to something, or how deeply we like to be involved or invested in something, emotionally or energetically, or what have you.
And we can go we can start to rationally reflect upon it, like when the state of fusion in Scorpio is so primal. It's so instinctual and libidinal and creative and sort of physical that it's not always the easiest space to be rational about.
Like, I think there's a movie that was in the 1990s that I actually re watched not too long ago. Um. Um, because my wife had never seen it, and I was showing her movies she wasn't like a big movie person in the 90s, and I was so, I was like, trying to show her some movies that she missed in the 90s.
One of the ones we watched, we re watched, was Basic Instinct. Guys. Ever see that movie classic Sharon Stone, anyway. So the the thing about basic instinct is that all of these men are so they get so lost in the craving and the obsession and the in the sexual attraction, and it becomes like this web that they get caught in.
And then there's this like female destroyer goddess, type of archetype in Sharon Stone's character and in the film in general, that then sort of annihilates them. And this is archetypal. This is depicted in many of the figurines and statues of goddesses from around the world.
That there's something about the material world, the material energy, the feminine that has to draw us deeply in and destroy us. And this is why we take form in a body, that there's a mirror of that process, to take a body and then die and be destroyed by the material energy.
Like the material energy is like a playground, but it's, it's bottom line is death, right? You It's impermanent, so there's, you know, anyway. The point is that we get so deeply enmeshed and entangled and it's hard to be rational.
And that doesn't mean we need to be rational, or rationality is better, or something. But when, when these two planets get together. There's a questioning like, what am I doing? Or it's a moment of rational concern or reflection if you're drinking too much or spending too much, or if you're getting lost in a relationship where the power dynamics really aren't fair or healthy, the rational mind will go, wait, wait, wait, pause.
Is this okay? Are the boundaries appropriate? Am I losing myself? So there can be pulls toward merging, but the retrograde rhythm may give some room for reflection and evaluation and more like Rational questioning of the health or the reciprocity of the dynamic, all something to consider right now.
Number three, get you thinking about jelly donuts. Okay, so number three on my list, emotional healing, depth, intensity in love, art or friendships. This combination provides the ability to talk about, to articulate and to exchange with a degree of civility and harmony.
That's a Mercury Venus combination thoughts, words and feelings that are quite deep, quite profound, quite complex, charged even a little conflictual or conflictual. A word conflicting or, let's call it oppositional. This is a Mars ruled sign.
I think we have to consider their union amidst the Greater Grand Water Trine as well. It's a watery time. Watery times are healing times, nurturing times. This Venus Scorpio dynamic to me, it let's say that you've had nothing but playful, sexual, erotic banter with someone, and it's led to a lot of flirtation, a lot of edginess, a lot of fun, a lot of increased heart rates, and then maybe love making.
And maybe you persist like that over the course of a month in a really intense kind of erotic dynamic. Eventually there comes that moment. Everyone knows what I'm talking about. Where you go, Okay, what is this? Really, I really like this.
And don't get me wrong, I want to go back to our erotic, like, ping pong match of words and minds and thoughts and feelings, because I'm really liking the sex, or I'm really liking the connection, or I love, you know, the ambiguity of this, but also I do crave stability.
I crave safety. I want to know if our bond is going to last or develop into something there comes a time where the erotic needs something nurturing, grounding, providing clarity, peace, stability, ease, protection, safety, commitment.
There's a trine to Saturn in the air right now. There's a trine to Jupiter and cancer. Those planets are going to want to provide a little bit more emotionally nurturing, safe clarity. And so I think this is a great moment for things that are deep and intense to also be safe and nourishing.
And that's why I say there might be some appropriate level of emotional healing or depth that's available right now where the erotic edginess can also be a safe place and a place of healing or connection, and saying like you know, are we good so or healing if an ongoing.
Relationship is ready to have a more serious conversation boy Venus and Mercury and Scorpio can provide that depth, the intensity in art, love, friendships, the depth, the provocativeness, the exploration of taboo subjects, of things that are a little bit more subversive could all come up right now and be really enjoyable and surprisingly, again, safe and somehow held.
I love that, because you've got Jupiter and cancer, Saturn and Pisces to provide a little bit more of a container. Number four, the intelligence of desire. I was talking about this to start, but I want to return to it.
Our desires are our guides and teachers that live sometimes in the costumes of the unconscious, of demons, of uncontrollable impulses, of what feels like the worst in us, sometimes morally or emotionally. But if we learn from those things like, let's say you have an unhealthy obsession, or let's say you have unhealthy levels of anxiety, or you try to control things or people, and you create too much drama, because there's just, there's maybe there's some hurt or some wounds and lack of trust, whatever the case might be, if You learn and grow from the more complicated, painful, sometimes conflicts that arise in relationships that's all meant for us to learn and grow from.
I think we and we, we think about spiritual growth too often in terms of morality, like, if I'm good, then I'm growing spiritually, and if I'm bad, then I'm regressing spiritually. But everything that I've learned, especially from my psychedelic experiences, my experiences meditation, even to a certain extent, bodybuilding as a hobby in the past years, growth is like this wave pattern, and it's sort of like in a linear sense.
Anyway, it's sort of climbing upward toward more enlightened consciousness, but the it ebbs and flows, and we go through these dips, and then these rises, and the overall rise of consciousness can't help but occur through this kind of wave pattern, and our desire is a part of sometimes what feels like it's pulling us down or back, like desire can feel really regressive to us, like, gosh, I should be focused on just being a good parent, but I can't help but want to tell my kids to shut up, put them to bed half an hour earlier, neglect something that They're concerned about because I want to watch Netflix's new fucking Frankenstein movie.
Or someone was like, I haven't seen that movie. I didn't do that to my kids, but I'm not above it. So you get what I mean though, right? It can then that can feel so regressive. You're watching Frankenstein, and then you're like, should I go wake my kids up and tell them, I'm sorry? Jesus, what's wrong with me? You know? And this is life.
We we do our best. The things that pull us that I need to do this. I want to do this. It can be kind of feel self involved, or whatever. I don't know how we're going to how we could perform perfectly and not in not admit that those ebbs and flow of desire, some levels of selfishness, aren't exactly part of how the curriculum unfolds, you know? So this is a really nice time to take a step back and reflect upon, think about, meditate on, and gather insight as to how our desires have brought us along a path.
What they what have they taught us? What have we learned? Great time to gather some insights. Maybe pass a test if something's coming back up, but also acknowledge there's been nothing wrong with the life I've lived.
Sure, on a relative level, there's good and bad choices. I reflect upon them. I don't dismiss them and become, you know, I don't live in some kind of moral, you know, some hollow world. There's morality, right? But spiritual growth is something more than that.
And what I love about Scorpio is Scorpio is always providing us with the depth and the subversiveness of a different perspective. You know, oh, actually, like I look back now and I think about my drug infused early 20s, and for as problematic as it was, I know carry the wisdom of what those experiences were and what they weren't, and life has led me, thankfully, into a path of sobriety.
Of course, I've had experience with 12 step programs. I'm always careful not to think that I'm now above anything I could fall back into anything at any point in time. You know, that's the humility that's required. Um.
Hmm, but I know, because I went through that, and that's why I frequently say there's really nothing at stake in all of reality, because those experiences were a part of how else could I have learned? You know, so keep that in mind, because our desires are here to give us an inflection moment of understanding, all right.
Number five, the alchemy of exchange. Everything we do in this lifetime is relational. We do not exist in a vacuum. The choices we make have impacts upon other souls and other living beings, from the food we eat and the way we walk about the Earth, there's, you know, a give and take involved at every stage of the material universe, of the material level of things, Venus and Mercury, when they come together, Mercury is appearing as a morning star, connecting with Venus.
This is a point of manifestation conjunctions like these, especially when something like mercury is being revealed in its light out of the underworld, can be points where things manifest that, in this case, have their roots in bonds and attachments with other people, often things that are more complicated, involving power dynamics or the give and take emotionally, financially, but the alchemy of exchange is reaching a moment of manifestation.
And I would imagine that there could be some with Venus, especially Venus going into a trine with benefic Jupiter, there could be some very nice things manifesting right now as a result of the alchemy, of what You've nurtured, of what bonds you fostered, of who you've connected with, who you've chosen to go deep with, what honesty you've brought into relationships.
So consider this as a moment of alchemical exchange that's more pronounced, or maybe a kind of karma that's blossoming around karmic exchanges that have been there, all right? Well, I have three little reminders for growth just in review from today's talk.
One, we're here to learn from desire. I covered that at length. Two, desire can be fulfilled in many ways. So beware of literalism. When Venus expresses herself in any dynamic, there's often comes the presence of something that we want.
Just remember that if we sit with and reflect upon what we want, sometimes what we really want is a feeling, not necessarily a literal thing, or sometimes what we want is more of something in our lives. And there's a variety of ways in which that that can be realized.
So be careful of literalism, because this is something I've talked about many times in the past, taking my, you know, taking my ideas really straight from James Hillman, who in therapy said, you know, and my own therapist has talked to me about this many times over the years.
Here's something I want. Maybe I can't have it. So then I get frustrated. Oh, well, my life doesn't allow me to have this or do this right now because I'm a dad and I don't have time in addition to work, to go and develop this hobby or whatever it might be, okay.
But just because the desire can't be manifested in this very literal, concrete thing that I've imagined doesn't mean there aren't other ways that that desire could be experienced or satisfied that I'm not yet imagining.
This often happens in counseling and astrology, when someone is coming in and they're feeling tempted, because there's some challenges in their marriage to have an affair, and it's very common for people to imagine that this one person that they've met will solve everything.
Rarely is that ever the case. There's a huge, very high percentage of people who, when they meet someone and they have an affair, will never end up with that person, because that person is not actually a good fit, but may be the instigator of a divorce for good reasons or maybe not good reasons, but either way, you get what I'm saying.
And one of the things that people, common, real, commonly reflect on in hindsight after having the affair, and whether they needed to get out of the marriage or not, this reflection will be there, and it's oh, well, this person represented something that I was needing or wanting for that I now have found in myself.
Do you see what I mean? So be careful, because this contact can provide us with pretty specific instances of what we think we want that will make us happy, but be imaginative about different ways that aren't as literal as the initial thing you think of, because sometimes things we want or long for aren't practical for our life situation.
But that doesn't mean we can't find ways of addressing that healthy need or longing we. Using our imagination and finding other outlets. So that's something that I've learned a lot about, especially with Scorpio, can be very helpful to remind ourselves of.
And then finally, whether it's friendships, love the workplace, creative work, honesty with this kind of connection, Scorpio loves honesty. It alchemizes, transforms, heals, changes when we are honest and soft. By that, I mean honest without trying to hurt someone or being defensive, too much aggression or too much defensiveness is a real problem for Scorpio sometimes just simple, undefended, confident honesty, simplicity with a soft, gentle, humble spirit changes so many things with a transit like this.
So keep that in mind too, in case it's helpful. All right. Well, let's take a quick look at horoscopes. I'm going to do this just for the fixed signs, because you've got this Venus and Mercury conjunction taking place in the angular houses for fixed signs.
So what I'm going to do now, here we go. I'm going to eliminate everything from the chart, except for Mercury and Venus. And we're going to put these up on the screen. I'm going to tell you what's on my altar before we close.
All right. So we're starting with the first Fixed sign, which is Taurus. If you're a Taurus, this Venus Mercury combination is coming in your seventh house of love and relationships. So watch for it to appear. Appear, especially around your intimacy, love, interpersonal connections, talking about a house that's related to pleasure, and emotional, spiritual, sexual fulfillment, any of those kinds of things in interpersonal relationships being the focus for Tauruses right now.
So that Angular, angularity of the rising signs is a big deal. Transits like this will land in the most powerful houses, loudest houses for Leo, it's the fourth house of home and family, the private internal life that maybe you don't show as many people, the thoughts and feelings you have on inside that are maybe just a little bit more hidden from the world outside.
Also things again, like home, family, parents, ancestry, the living environment, conversations about where you live, or what the landscape of your home life looks like. Now for Scorpios, it's in the first house, which means we're looking at selfhood and identity, body, health, appearance, vitality, questions of psychological self worth, and questions of who you're becoming, or what is this moment asking for you to consider when it comes to your own character, character development, character evolution, real, personal for Scorpios and then finally, for Aquarians, is taking place in your 10th house, which is the career house, the public facing self the world of your vocation or career, what's happening in that workplace environment, your role in the workplace or your vocation, or just for even for people who are retired, the intersection between yourself and the public world that you still inhabit in retirement could be a focus for that transit All right, now I'm going to tell you what is on my altar this week, because we're starting the week with some really strong Venus connections.
I have Venus on my altar this week, just show you so you can see Aphrodite there right in the middle of the altar. She's front and center. We're honoring and acknowledging her this week as guiding the process of spiritual change, healing growth, just really taking a moment to thank Venus for all that she does in my relationships, in my marriage, and my friendships with my daughters, Daughters of Venusian signification.
So I encourage you to take up an altered practice if you don't have one. It's a really simple way to make these connections with the planets a little bit more personal, and to go from information like some kind of impersonal weather system to more of a language of Omen, signs and symbols from Gods and Goddesses, asking, inviting us to be symbolic participants.
There's no better way in my experience of doing that, aside from meditation, contemplation and having conversations with them. Then you know to stimulate that conversation with an altered practice is like easy. So I hope that you will consider that.
