Previewing The Upcoming Venus Retrograde in Scorpio — Horoscopes for All 12 Signs

Today we're going to take a look at Venus's upcoming retrograde in the sign of Scorpio. Now this retrograde is not happening until October, but it is one of the bigger events left on the calendar year for us, and I think it's a good one to get out in front of and start thinking about right now because Venus is preparing to enter Scorpio in direct motion shortly.

So I'm going to map out the timeline of the entire retrograde, and then we're going to do some horoscopes today. I'll talk generally about what you could look for with Venus retrograde in Scorpio for everyone. We'll do some archetypal deep dives closer to the time of the retrograde, but then today after we do a little exploration of Venus and Scorpio, I'll give you some sense of what house topics are being activated in your horoscope.

You can find that under the live replay links under the in the YouTube channel. But here we are looking at Nachepso, and a couple of things that we want to focus on right now. Here we stand, August Thursday, August 27.

Now, if I take this forward just a little bit, we're going to see that it's very shortly here, September 10, that Venus enters Scorpio. So we're just a couple weeks away from Venus's entrance into Scorpio. Venus will be in Scorpio from September 10th all the way up until it turns retrograde around October 2nd. Mercury is going to follow Venus and turn retrograde in Scorpio as well.

So a lot of emphasis on the whole sign house of Scorpio coming up in our birth charts this autumn if you're in the northern hemisphere, and that retrograde will take Venus backward through Scorpio, and so Venus will not completely move through. Hits the Cazimi at zero Scorpio on Friday, October 23, and then dips back into Libra on the 24th. So we have from the beginning of September through almost all of October where Venus is going to be in Scorpio, direct and retrograde. That's a long sequence of events.

That's a long time, in other words, for Venus to be spending in Scorpio, and it's coming up soon. So I thought today we would do this. I'm not trying to bury the lead. Obviously, this week's eclipse is a big deal. You're going to find the next couple episodes on the channel, at least for sure. On the day of the eclipse, we'll be doing that. I think I'll probably do a little bit more on the eclipse as well tomorrow. So, lots of eclipse coverage to come if you're wondering about that.

But what I want to do today is I just want to run through your horoscopes after telling you a little bit about what everybody can watch for given the retrograde of Venus in Scorpio. Let me adjust my chart here so that I've got everything set up, and I'm just going to move Aries onto the ascendant so we can be all set. So, a couple of things. First of all, there's a couple of things to note just when it comes to the retrograde of Venus in general.

Retrogrades of Venus are pretty commonly associated with significant changes in relationships, as you can all imagine. I'm sure that's not like mind blowing, right? A Venus retrograde has certain things that are going to be very basic to it every single time. One of them will be significant changes in key relationships. Now, those could be workplace relationships, family relationships, relationships with peers or siblings, colleagues or friends, lovers.

Obviously, that's one of your intimate relationships, your love, sex, marriage, dating kinds of relationships. Transformation within those relationships, however, can go a lot of different ways, and sometimes people get really scared that a Venus retrograde means you're going to break up. You can, and sometimes people do, but often Venus retrogrades will coincide with significant changes within the landscape of a relationship that have to do with the direction of your partner and the life that they're living, the job that they're working, the values that they hold, their health, their family, or it can have to do with decisions you're having to make together.

Venus retrogrades can speak to the dynamics of your intimacy and important moments of discovery or breakthrough within sex, or within how you speak or resolve conflicts with one another. Venus retrogrades can also be a time where your priorities in terms of your social life go through a change. Who do I want to be with? Who do I feel most connected to? And maybe what doesn't feel as positive or healthy any longer.

All of these evaluations tend to happen between the stationing of Venus retrograde and the Cazimi. After the Cazimi, it's more common to see implementation or integration of those changes, or the ramification or fallout of those decisions for the consequences of what Venus's initial retrograde brings. And what that means for us is that between September 10 or so, I think it was that we said, all the way through early October, we're in a phase where the important changes that need to happen in whatever kinds of relational domains Venus is bringing up, those changes are going to become apparent to us.

We're going to be looking at something, moving towards something, stopping, evaluating, redoing. We're going to be looking at something that comes up and then creates the need for a shift or transformation. The September 10 through October 2 period is going to be the one where a lot of the work is done. Then from September 9, 10th, right around there, through the rest of October, that's when you're going to see the breakdown and the transformation occur.

And for many people, it will be that window of time, right—the mid to late October—where it really feels like there's some difficult work that's being done. The lead up to that is more like becoming aware of something, and then the change occurs from retrograde onward. Now, if we go through all of that in order, by the way, we're going to see that Venus dips back into Libra, and then once again comes forward into Scorpio by early December, and it's not until December 4, and it's not until early January that Venus is out of Scorpio.

So that means we have a significant period of time where we're working through the levels and lessons of Venus in Scorpio. Okay, so let me back this up. So I give. I was just moving this forward. So here we go. Now, all right. So, one of the things that makes Venus in Scorpio particularly difficult is the fact that Venus is in a Mars ruled sign. When Venus is in a Mars ruled sign, it brings up Venus Mars tension.

In Scorpio, that means emotional confrontation, intensity, death. Discovery of things that maybe are difficult to see, protectiveness, defensiveness, vulnerabilities that we feel less safe around, and Scorpio always brings the feeling of potential death, and of course the fertile space that emerges when meaningful destruction happens. I call it meaningful because when you go through, let's say it's the worst case scenario and it's a breakup, when you go through that, it really does for many of us create a kind of fertile ground for a next chapter of life that we may feel very relieved by pretty quickly.

I'm always surprised. I see people go through breakups all the time in my astrology practice, and usually at the outset of the breakup, there's a lot of pain, disappointment, betrayal, abandonment. Give it three months, four months, maybe a year at most, and a lot of people are feeling reborn, and that's a common Scorpioic signature. It's probably why we also associate Pluto with Scorpio, right? They have some things in common in that respect.

But we can think of this process as one of meeting intense, vulnerable spaces and having to confront and transform or be transformed by them, and so let's, with that in mind, look at our horoscopes here. So, with Aries, and I'm going to run through this whole sign at a time, and I'm just going to give you some brief things to consider here. If you're an Aries Sun or rising, this is going to be taking place in your eighth house, with the retrograde starting on October 2, and that next week or so being a very intense process.

And you're looking at attachments and bonds and the reciprocal nature, the giving and receiving, or potentially the using and taking advantage of others or others of you. This is a place of soul contracts. The eighth house and the need to be liberated from unhealthy entanglements or bondage is a part of Venus being in this house. This can also mean that a complete and total transformation of contracts that you have, literally or emotionally, are being looked at and worked and reworked.

Pretty vulnerable space for Aries folks to be looking at, and it's also about arranging the give and take of relationships in more meaningful ways. Now, if you're a Taurus, this is happening in your house of love and relationships, love, sex, marriage, intimacy, dating, and so what's taking place in this house can be very sort of frontally about your relationship. The person that you live with, the person that you love, might be going through some meaningful changes of health or life direction.

Issues from the past might be coming up. People from the past might be coming up, and some need to rework the bond, the primary bonds that you share, the people that you're closest with, the nature of those relationships, what they're meant to give us and teach us karmically or spiritually, the psychological dimensions of love, the sexual dimensions of love—all of these are potential areas for growth or reworking or revision coming through this Venus retrograde.

If you're a Gemini, this is taking place in the sixth house, and so here we're talking about how you handle potentially how you handle conflicts with people, people that you would ideally like to harmonize with, but may have reached an impasse, and you know sometimes relationships can't go on until some kind of conflict is mediated, or some difference, or clash of values, or will, or personalities are dealt with, and that's pretty common for Venus in the sixth house, which is a house associated with Mars and with conflicts and competition.

Now, this is also maybe about things like health and the maintenance of daily work, and how you create greater peace or harmony or ease or flow with the day-to-day stressors of life, including health and work, service and sacrifice. Venus turning retrograde in this house can also be about what are the blocks or what prohibits greater peace and ease in the day-to-day work that you do, and Venus might be really shining a light right now on stressors in your life and what needs to change for those stressors to be for you to be less impacted, less negatively impacted by the inevitable stressors of everyday life.

Now, for Cancers, we're looking at Venus turning retrograde in the fifth house, place of creativity, children, sexuality, a place of creative realization, and also again of things like children or pregnancy. And so, could it be here that there is a revisiting of something from the past around love, sex, dating, relationships, and sexuality? Could there be some change with respect to pleasure itself or intimacy, possibly? But also creativity.

What kind of creative revisions are happening, or what kind of redirecting of creative energy do you most need right now? The concern of the fifth house is creative fulfillment, and so Venus retrograde can bring a direct line of insight or understanding with respect to the creative direction of your life and what feels fulfilling and what friendships or relationships are most satisfying, and which creative outlets are asking for more development. So watch for that kind of creative emphasis, but with the need for transforming shadows along the way.

With Leo rising, we're looking at the fourth house of home and family, and we're really looking very deeply at the question of roots, parents, home, family, karma, ancestry, your living environment. It's not uncommon to move or relocate when a long retrograde takes place in the fourth house, or change something about the esthetics or the internal dimension of your living space. It's not uncommon to move in with or out of a shared living space with other people.

Conflicts or relational dynamics within the home or family can become very important. Shared values or divergent values with respect to family or family backgrounds and marriages can come up, and issues around love, sexuality, privacy, intimacy can also be a little bit more loaded, potentially because they have some kind of deeper history here that's being explored. Now, with Virgos for Virgo Sun or Rising, we're looking at the third house.

A lot of Venus retrograde in the third house has to do with meaningful changes that we're making to our own psychology, to our own mind, our own thoughts and habits of thought or communication or perception, and so Venus here might be asking questions about how your mental habits and how your cognitive, perceptual, or communicative habits shape the world that you live in, and define the relationships and the quality of those relationships.

It's a really good time to be introspective about how your own behavior is participating in the health or disease of your relationships, but on the other hand, it's a great time to be revising or shifting something about how you communicate or express yourself. It's a good time to be learning or relearning different kinds of crafts or skills or artistic mediums, and maybe there's something creative that you're trying to figure out how to get the confidence to say or speak or share during this process.

Relationships with siblings, sisters, women, and friends, peers, and competitors can also be more pronounced, and there may be some real learning that has to happen there. Now with Libra rising, we're looking at Venus's retrograde in the second house. So for the second house, we're talking about the changes that are coming up around things like money and finances, resources and assets.

How you allocate your time, your money, your energy, and your resources will frequently kind of come under the microscope when retrogrades take place. It's like if there's a Mercury retrograde, there's a Venus or Mars retrograde in that second house. You're going to start going, you know, maybe I'm going to get one of those budgeting apps and figure out how many subscriptions I have and which ones I need to get rid of.

If you are someone who owes people money, or other people are somehow indebted to you, this can be particularly important because Venus's natural rulership is of Taurus in the opposite sign, and so that's always going to bring up that house access, and you might be looking at the give and take of relationships or assets and money and how they influence relationships or spending habits or something like that. This could also have something to do with changes that are happening that shift how you earn money or how you make.

How you spend it or how you allocate it, so watch for meaningful changes around things like income and expenditures as well. Well, for Scorpios, the Venus retrograde is going to be very front and center with respect to identity. What do I want? What do I desire? Who am I? What makes me feel good? What makes me feel beautiful or attractive? That's the interest of Venus retrograde in Scorpio.

So, for as much as Venus in Scorpio opposite the seventh house may also bring up relationships, the focus will really be on you. Who am I becoming? How do I need to change? And that may have a direct line of communication, or there may be direct insights related to your close or intimate relationships. But it's really about you and who you're becoming, and what your shifting values are, and what your vision for your life is.

It can also be as simple as changing esthetics, or changing style, or making more of an effort to look into your health or your hormones or something like that. So consider these changes that could be very personal, very physical, rooted in identity, but also simultaneously connected to the social or relational dimension of life. For Sagittarians, we're looking at the 12th house, and this is a real potential blind spot that Sagittarians are getting in touch with the shadows or secret spaces of the 12th house, the illusions that we have, the undermining influences or behaviors or people or environments in our life.

This could be about gossip or dealing with hidden enemies or detractors or people who are just not healthy for you. This could be about finding out secrets, or it could be about having to be really honest with yourself or other people. Looking in that shadow or looking at that blind spot, though, there's going to be a level of unconscious excavation during this Venus retrograde that'll tap into your relationships, but make you aware of things that you just haven't been seeing or have been maybe trying to deny or hide.

So it's a really good retrograde to get honest with yourself and others during. Now, for Capricorns, we're looking at the 11th house. If you're Capricorn Sun or rising, we've got Venus's retrograde in the 11th house of friends, allies, groups, communities—what you want out of life, who it connects you to, what your version of success looks like—is evolving. It's changing specifically because Venus's retrograde in this house will say, "I have a different vision of what social happiness, belonging, popularity, success looks like."

I'm trying to define that differently or revise what I've been seeking. If there have been superficial visions of success or popularity or social belonging that you've had, it's a good time to review those things. If some of them are just not fitting the version of yourself that you're becoming, sometimes we're unconsciously still thinking we have to earn a certain amount, dress a certain way, achieve certain things, be liked by certain kinds of people. And the Venus retrograde in this house is a great opportunity to say, "Do I really need those same things?"

We're all social beings, and there's some level of social validation and belonging that we all seek, some socially defined level of success or happiness. But Venus retrogrades in this house give us an opportunity to really reflect deeply on what they are, who they connect us with, and whether or not those things are still important to us, or if not, then what is at this point? All right, we go to Aquarius and the Venus retrograde is taking place.

If you're Aquarius Sun or rising in your 10th house, the place of vocation, influence, power, notoriety in the world, your professional life or your status and visibility is found here, and so Venus's retrograde through this house can bring up questions of status and questions of fame, questions of professional interest or direction, and things taking place in the workplace in your actual workplace environment. Are there conflicts or transformations of workplace relationships or workplace dynamics?

What you're doing, how you're doing it, could go through a meaningful change, a change of direction coinciding with a change of value, having to look at complicated social dynamics that are more emotional and maybe require you to be a bit more vulnerable than is easier natural for an air sign rising, but the transformation here is social, public, professional, and it's also relational all at the same time. So watch for those things if you're in Aquarius, and then finally for Pisces, we have the Venus retrograde taking place.

Your ninth house, which is a place of higher education, philosophy, religion. This is a place that pertains to your evolving sense of wisdom and understanding, your views on life, your philosophy, your ethics, your morality, learning, and higher education belong here in general. But the sense that reality has that reality is indeed understandable on some level, maybe not all of it at once, but that we can come to understand something, that we can come to wisdom, is the assumption of this house.

Venus's retrograde here will thus bring up the question of what do I know? What do I think I know? What did I think that I knew? What do I know now? How is my understanding evolving or changing? And that might be with respect to specifically Venusian things like relationship, sex, love, women, femininity, the yin, so to speak. How is my mind being opened or transformed, and how does that have a bearing on my relationships, my values, and even my friendships, or even my sexuality and intimacy can change as you do healing work within yourself, and you come to more wisdom about life, about why you're here.

So some interesting things there for Pisces with Venus in the ninth. Well, I hope that this gives you some good things to prep with. I think it's going to be a very powerful retrograde. I'm anticipating some pretty, you know, Scorpio brings the heat, you know, and it's like a deep boiling water kind of heat. It's like I think of both ice and fire as belonging to Scorpio in a certain way.

The fire of Scorpio is really the transformative alchemizing heat, like a pot boiling, but the icy cold depth is there too. When we have to go really, really deep, the deep water is often cold, and there are realities that can feel sort of cold to us because they're so stark. Doesn't make them untrue, but it can make them feel sort of cold to encounter old hurts, old wounds surfacing. That when we have to look at the reality of human suffering, we go, "Oh, that's cold."

You know, it's like when someone treats someone else, and we go, "That's cold." You know, it's like we say it that way. This is also Scorpio sometimes, but facing those things and doing the work of transforming and healing, as anyone knows who's been living a life with astrology long enough, that's where the real growth happens, isn't it? So that's what I have for you today.

Look, every single day it is my prayer in the morning when I sit in morning meditation with a lot of you who come to that, that we find something that is spiritually valuable to share with this community, so that astrology can be a spiritual path for those who come here. It is for me because I need it to be that way. That's why astrology appealed to me in the first place.

I was looking for a spiritual path that could honor and acknowledge all the different paths in my life up to that point that had played a role. And astrology's language of archetypes and patterns seems to provide a unitive language for interfaith experience. And also, there's enough in common in astrology and all the different great mystical traditions that astrology seems to bring it together in some really interesting ways.

So I hope you find that comfort here and that sense of familiarity with the various archetypes and the way that intentionally try to weave them together here at Nightlight for the sake of spiritual growth and healing.
