Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Today we're going to take a look at Venus crossing the south node of the moon. Venus has an extraordinary amount of dignity in the sky today as well. I'm going to show you what that looks like, why and what it means. Also give you some tips for tracking some of the subtler dignity categories on a day by day basis, which I hope some of you will find useful.
But more broadly speaking, I'm going to talk about why this is a major point of karmic release for Venus and what to watch for. This is also something I did a preview video of a few weeks ago. If you go back maybe two weeks in my channel's history, you're going to find another note about Venus and the South Node getting together that could add to this one. You could watch both of these together and really get a really well rounded take. But today should give you everything that you need to know for the transit that we're experiencing anyway.
On that note, before we get into it, remember to like and subscribe, click the notification bell, turn it on so you get updates. That really helps people know that there's new stuff happening on the channel, and that, of course, helps our viewership. So we really appreciate that subscribe. If you're watching regularly and not yet subscribed, it helps us grow transcripts of any of my daily talks can be found on the website, which is Nightlight astrology.com
I am going to take you over to the website right now, the end of this week, the early bird rate for our retreat to Mexico next June has been extended until Friday, so you have one more day to take advantage of that early bird rate. Go to the events page. Click on immersive retreat. You can learn all about the Oracle within our training, brand new training program we're doing in Mexico next June on divinatory astrology.
This is about building the intuitive capacity that you that we each have as an astrologer, in addition to utilizing sound technique, how do you develop and cultivate that oracular sensitivity? That's what this retreat is all about. Can't wait to visit with some people in a really beautiful location.
The other thing, go to the Courses page. First year course. At the end of today's video, there's an informational talk that I gave about the program. But our next class, ancient astrology for the modern mystic, our first year program in ancient Hellenistic astrology, excuse me, begins on November 8, so you'll see everything that you need to know about the program is located here on this page.
You'll find the same informational video is now right there on the page too, so you could watch it on your own time. 30 classes on the year, they're all held via live webinar. I teach all of it live. Of course, everything's recorded, so you can do it on your own time, or attend the live webinars, either way.
Again, stick around to hear more about it at the end of today's content, but at the bottom, you'll find the early bird pricing available until October 24 please take advantage of that. Come study with us in this awesome program. This truly is the best thing that I've created as an astrologer.
The programs that I've created, structured programs, five years worth of curriculum, plus a variety of master classes every year, monthly webinars. Really, I'm an astrological educator at heart, and you'll notice that, by the way that I convey all of the material on my channel, I love to teach astrology. So these are the things I'm most proud of.
And if you want to come study astrology, build a successful client practice or just because it's your hobby, whatever the case might be, check this out, the need based tuition assistance is available as well. So if you're someone who needs a little help to make the program happen, you're on a fixed or limited income, or the exchange rate is high from another country.
That allows you to pick within a sliding scale. And we are very happy for people to use that. We believe, going on 16 years now, that astrology as a spiritual topic ought to be accessible for people, regardless of what your financial background is. So anyway, on that note, let's turn our attention to the real time clock.
I have tremendously simplified the view. I have made this so much simpler than it usually is because I want to convey a few very important things about today's astrology details that we might normally miss because we're not used to looking at the chart from an ancient or classical perspective, not that there's that's the right way, either.
But it offers a lot that some of us aren't even aware of because we're not in the habit of looking at the chart from a classical perspective, and the classical perspective is typically going to be your seven planets, and nothing else. I've got the south node here in the North Node would typically be included in ancient astrology.
You might have a lot of fortune or spirit, and pretty soon we've got asteroids, and we've got Sabian symbols, you know, and, and outer planets, and, and I love the huge abundance of symbols that exist in astrology, as long as people take the time to really get to know them and say things that are substantive and meaningful and not just cliched, that, to me, is the only thing I really care about is that we have depth and that we can say few things but say.
Well, to me, is almost more important than being able to say a ton of things, but none of them really sound any different from one another. And so anyway, that's a little bit about me and symbols. But here in this chart today, I want to show you the topic of our exploration is Venus, at the south node of the moon.
Now, again, I explored this a couple of weeks ago. If you go back in the archives, you could have a whole separate talk on this. I'm not going to repeat everything I said in that talk, but you wouldn't necessarily need to listen to that talk to hear today either. Venus at the south node will cross today into tomorrow.
That is Thursday, October 2 to Friday, October 3. Now, if we give this about three degrees of warm up, get to about Tuesday, September 30. And if we give it about three degrees of separation, maybe we get to about Sunday, October 5. So you have about a week within which Venus's three degree engagement range is active, and the expression of the symbolism that we're going to talk about today would be in the in the psychic sky, so to speak.
What I want to do today is I want to show you just how powerful a Venusian moment, such as this one, is, and also give you some tips for tracking other significant moments in the sky, because they often reveal things that you don't see on first glance. First of all, before I do that, let's talk a little bit about Venus and the South Node in review.
At the opening of our Solar Eclipse, Venus was squaring Uranus. This means that the solar eclipse that we just had in Virgo was toned in part by a Venus Uranus dynamic that will often mean that anything Venus related, so let's say friendships, love, sexuality, beauty, sisters, women, daughters, all Venusian things, in addition to just relationships in general, the experience of harmony, pleasure, pleasantness, all Venusian things can go through a process of shifting or changing because of that creative and somewhat erratic or disruptive square from Uranus.
It's not I mean, a square like that may last a couple of days, and you may really notice its effects at the moment that it's happening. But those events also are happening at the time that a new solar eclipse cycle is occurring, which means they participate in the seeding of the new cycle, which means their life lives on.
The life of that transit lives on well beyond the actual separation of Venus's square with Uranus at the opening of the eclipse. That makes this conjunction with the South Node especially important, because it was the South Node around which the solar eclipse was constellated. So when Venus comes to the south node of the moon, there is an association that the South Node typically has with pointing us toward other worldly things and diminishing the importance of material things.
So for example, Venus in relationships may diminish superficial ways that we have of viewing one another and may augment psychological, spiritual or emotional ways that we have of valuing one another. Let me give you a simple example. You know someone at I'm at the gym every day, so let's just say where you could look at someone on the surface, and you might say, hey, they look really fit, or maybe they look really attractive.
But then let's say you had a conversation with someone in a setting like that, and you found out very quickly that despite their physical attractiveness, the mental, emotional, spiritual or intellectual attractiveness was non existent. I'm imagining myself if I were, I don't I'm happily married. But if I were to talk to people at the gym, I would probably find that's the case, because probably not a lot of people are walking around there are interested in things like psychedelics and astrology and, you know, the Tao Te Ching.
So, you know, physical attraction is going to be pretty low on the totem pole for me, in like friendships, for example, if I meet people, the most important thing for me is probably going to be the psychological, spiritual and intellectual compatibility in a friendship another Venus ruled area of life. I think you all know what I'm talking about at this point, the idea being that when Venus conjoins the south node, the more superficial material level of pleasure or value tends to be diminished in favor of things that are more spiritual, psychological, mental, intellectual, etc.
So you can see that when Venus crosses the south node of the moon, it is often a time of refining, reframing, reorienting, purifying, something about Venus, especially anything that has been somewhat superficial or just purely materialistic or rooted in something that's not as substantive. That's one major signification for Venus in the south node you see again and again, for example, in Indian astrology, with the significations of Ketu as the the the shadow planet around eclipses that emphasizes moksha, liberation from worldly entanglements, refinement of pleasure, refinement of taste, refinement in relationships, or a point of karmic releasing or harvesting psychological insight, crystallized realizations, lessons learned, surrendering old karmic baggage that is served its purpose and it's time to be harvested.
These are all Venus in the south node, kinds of significations. So it's a big moment for Venus. Might not seem like it, because it's like, oh well, it's just Venus in the south node. But again, given Venus's significance at the outset of the solar eclipse, the square to Uranus, let's say that Venus and Uranus represent artistic revolution.
You know, speaking of the the gym, a lot of people I noticed at the gym will try on different kinds of outfits. It's a kind of fun. But, you know, anyone who has to spend time in a social environment regularly, or you have some places you go, the gym, the office in New York City, I remember being out and about a lot socially, and it's kind of fun to try on new versions of yourself through new esthetics, new costumes, new makeup, new clothing, taking some risks and seeing what what kind of social feedback or response you get, you know, but in so far as Venus meets The South Node, any way in which pleasure style art has been revolutionizing itself or experimenting with new things since the outside of the cycle, there may be harvested insights that come from that experimentation.
It's sort of like, oh, well, you know, I'm going to start wearing, I'm going to start wearing all you know, 1980s neon wind like wind pants. Remember those? To the gym and see the response again. You know what? People smile at me, and they like it, and they laugh, and I just love how I feel.
And so I realized that I'm going to refine and shift my style. Seems like a simple little thing, kind of stupid. Maybe even sounds superficial. But for Venus at the south node, when you gain that insight through experimentation and playful revolution of your style, it can actually bring you closer to a feeling of what's authentic and what makes you feel good in different social settings and contexts, and might bring out more of an authentic feeling of who you are.
So the point is not to sleep on how refining and simple the insights of Venus could be right now, with things like style, appearance, taste, pleasure, even like, what foods you like or don't like can be little tips or tip offs as to you know who you are and maybe what, what parts of yourself are Seeking, you know, greater expression.
Okay, anyway, so those are a few things to think about any kind of relationship, karma, sexual karma, the karma around intimacy in friendships, relationships, marriage. This is a transit that can reflect breakthroughs in relationships, releasing baggage in relationships, because again, of the square to Uranus at the outset of the cycle, and now the harvesting moment of Venus at the south node.
So that's a little breakdown that we need for the setup here is, more broadly speaking, I want to what I want to do now, actually, I'm skipping around here. What I want to do now is I want to show you just how much power Venus has in the sky, and give you some tips for tracking dignities that can be really, really powerful.
So first of all, what I want to do is just show you how much power Venus has on today's in today's astrology, power is a word that isn't always the best word you could think of it as voicing when a planet has a lot of dignity. It's a way of saying that its voice becomes louder, clearer, brighter, as a symbol at the time that doesn't necessarily mean stronger, like stronger and power.
Are words that it's not always the right way of thinking about it. It could be bright or loud or prominent or kind of in the spotlight, you know. So play with the metaphors that you use when you're thinking about dignities. Is the point. But anyway, here it is. So first and foremost, Venus is in her fall in Virgo, at the south node of the moon.
So right away, you might go, Oh my gosh. You know, Venus has is in a difficult position, you know, because her dignity is so poor. But then you notice a few other things. One, Venus is in her own bound in Virgo, so she has dignity by virtue of being in her own bound. Then I want you to see how many other planets are in a power of.
Venus right now. The sun in Libra is in the domicile of Venus. Mercury in Libra is in the domicile of Venus. Mercury is also in the bound of Venus. Mars in Scorpio right now is in the bound of Venus for a portion of today's astrology, the moon, moving through Aquarius, will be in the bound of Venus. Saturn in Pisces is in the exaltation of Venus, right?
So you you add that up, and there is almost every single planet except for Jupiter, is in one of the powers of Venus. I mean, you could get into triplicity or something with Jupiter. But let's just say, though, that Jupiter is providing a superior sextile. Sextiles are of the nature of Venus, and is providing a superior sextile to Venus.
So Venus is bonafide by Jupiter in her own bound and every other planet is in the bound domicile or exaltation of Venus. Today. You see how, when you when you pick up on those little dignities like that, and you can see sometimes, and it's not going to happen all the time like this, but at the time of a very important event for a planet like you're studying a planet crossing the south node, in this case, Venus, and you notice that Venus is in her fall, you could immediately rush to the conclusion that this is going to be a really difficult spot for Venus.
And on some level, that dignity category is still important to consider. And I'll say more about that in a second. But what we're also seeing is that this Venus is supported by an exalted Jupiter in a harmonious sextile, and every other planet in the sky is in one of the powers of Venus. So at the very least, what we can take away from that is the recognition that this is a very significant moment for all things related to Venus.
And it's those little dignities that start saying, Oh, I see Venus has a ton of power right now. What might it mean that Venus is in the sign of virgo in her fall? We have to understand the category of the fall. The fall is a category for Venus that pits her in a natural opposition that she has to Mercury, Mercury the ruler of Virgo and the exaltation.
Ruler of Virgo is in its fall in Pisces, where Venus is exalted, and Venus is in her fall in the sign where Mercury is exalted. We have an ancient text that comes from rhetorius, that was where, wherein he says that the reason that Venus is exalted in Pisces in fall in Virgo mercury in fall in Pisces exalted in Virgo is because the intellectual or rational and the sensual or esthetic are Often opposed to one another in meaning and in value.
So for example, let's just say that. I'll go back to the gym analogy. Let's say you see a handsome guy at the gym, and you go up and you you, I don't know who would do this. I don't see people doing this. But let's say you were bold enough to go up and strike up a conversation and oh my gosh, the super attractive fella, turns out is just brain dead.
I'm kidding, right, but you get what I mean. Suddenly the conflict between sensual beauty and intellectual appreciation or intelligence, is now in conflict. It's a very simple example with Venus Virgo, but sometimes Venus, a lot of times, when you think about the psychology of Venus and Virgo, you also think about the the care and concern for details and the control of the practical elements of a situation or a craft, and the anxiety and care and control and meticulousness potentially being at odds with the flow, the harmony, the grace, the beauty.
It's like someone who can't relax enough to enjoy the art that they make, or who is a very great craftsman, but so controlling that some kind of some element of flow can't make its way in, or someone who's very masterful at their craft on a level of detail, but you know, perhaps there's also a kind of anxiety or neurotic inability to let go, so that Those are the ways you typically like Venus and Mercury are typically at odds with one another when, when Venus is in Virgo, Venus loves pleasure.
Virgo has a lot of concern for purity and getting things right and being good or being useful or. Being aware of the potential for judgment and passing the grade, or, you know, being judged or evaluated positively, that can make Virgo a bit puritanical, and Venus is typically a lot happier with sensuality, Grace, flow, ease, harmony, enjoyment, satiation, desire, romance, and so sometimes there's issues around purity and perfectionism and grace and forgiveness, letting Go, accepting.
Also sometimes Venus in Virgo gets the feedback that your diet could be cleaner and your enjoyment needs to be refined so that there's a healthier, wholesomeness involved. But it's hard to clean up your diet, or it's hard to stop drinking, or it's hard to stop spending too much, or something like that. So any kinds of tensions around purity and impurity, perfection, imperfection, Grace, surrender, letting go versus control.
Those are all themes that tend to come up for Venus around this place. So we could see a pretty profound level of karmic resolution related to any of these themes, and then maybe connect them to relationships or love or sex or pleasure, etc. So that's Venus in her fall at the south node. But then again, remember that every other planet in the sky today is sort of, is sort of paying homage to Venus, saying, yeah, it's, this is your show right now.
What's happening here is so much about you and your point of view, your perspective, your topics, your subjects, your needs, your dilemmas. And I mean, again, like I the reason that I point this out is because if you take the time to like, for me, I'm using the Egyptian bound rulers and put it back up on the screen, I'm using the Egyptian bound rulers.
And so you can see that if you simply examine just the traditional seven planets I threw in the south node, obviously in this case, but if you explore just the traditional seven planets and the bound rulers, as well as the domicile and exaltation rulers, you will often get a feel for you know, what's pressing more What's weighing more heavily on the scales?
And Venus is heavy. Venus has a lot of gravitas right now, and that will just it really refines how you're looking at things. As an astrologer, it can add a sense of weight or importance or significance. And again, like the reason that I would say it might be easy to miss something like this is because we don't think of Venus crossing the south node as the hugest deal in the world.
It's kind of quiet in the sky with the traditional planets. Otherwise, we're not paying then attention to the context that Venus has within the lunar cycle that were the Eclipse cycle that we're in, excuse me, and we're not paying attention to how much weight Venus has on a given day. Not that this level of detail or attention to detail is always necessary, or it's not even always constructive to get so detail oriented, but certainly this was one of the things that caught my eye that I thought you might all find useful to see.
And, you know, demonstrate it all right, there are five things to watch for, given the power of Venus in the sky. Today, think about Venus as an archive, meaning a first principle philosophically that ancients saw in within the Hellenistic system of astrology. What did she represent as a philosophical core, one, union and attraction?
What the cosmos has a natural way of taking all of the many things? You see that there's the one and there's the many as like fundamental building blocks of reality, there's oneness and there's manyness, and they're the same, but they're different. Within that manyness, the principle that is always at work, and often in mysterious ways, is the principle of magnetism.
Attraction. There is a force that works to draw things that are different and bring them together. Doesn't always make them the same, but it harmonizes them and brings them together in ways that are meaningful, beautiful, sensual, magnetic, attractive, harmonious. And again, we're not even always able to perceive the level at which that's taking place.
I'll give you a simple example. Remember that Mars is a natural opposite to Venus, and so there is a paradoxical way which even our enemies are something that we attract. I'm not, believe me, I'm not. I don't like to offer simple minded formulas like anything bad that's happened to you, you attracted. That's not what I'm saying.
But I am saying that there is, there are powerful and very mysterious forms of magnetism and a. Attraction, on the level of meaning, on the level of karma that are behind everything. This is why Venus is the CO ruler of Libra, the sign of cosmic balance and justice. CO rules that sign with Saturn, who's exalted there.
Number two is esthetic order. When you have a huge moment like this for Venus, the arrangement of our lives in terms of its te our taste, our values, what we find attractive, the meaningful arranging or ordering of things and the way that they're aligned with one another or harmonizing with one another, has a chance to be in front and center somehow.
So consider that as well, number three would be fertility and generation. Moments like this for Venus are often powerful moments of creative shifting. By that, we mean something there's hardly anything Venus does in the sky that doesn't participate in what's growing in the garden of life. What what's Venus is fertile.
Venus is related to fertility, and she was naturally associated with all conditions in nature that lead to growth, and so fertility in general. What's growing right now? What's not growing, what can grow, what can't grow, what cycles of growth are changing? These are the kinds of things to watch for when Venus is so prominent, with all of the dignities crossing the south node number four, Concord and social cohesion, where we find agreement, momentum, support, allies, friends, benefits, blessings, social cohesion and connection with others.
This is at the heart of a strong Venusian moment right now. So consider all of these things, and then finally, value and worth are always tied to ethics. Let me give you a simple example. I think it might have been Kafka who said this, but I can't remember. So correct me if I'm wrong, if someone knows there's something like you know, if you kill a beetle, no one cares.
But if you kill a butterfly, everyone will scream injustice or immorality. And the point is that ethics are inherently tied to esthetics. There's a great essay written by James Hillman called Aphrodite justice, and it has a lot to do with how our sense of what is ethical, fair, good is pretty intimately tied to what we find attractive or beautiful and what we find ugly or repulsive.
We often take offense to things that are ugly or repulsive, and will closely connect things that we find ugly or repulsive to things that we consider impure or immoral. These become especially interesting distinctions for Venus and Virgo because of some of the reasons I mentioned earlier. But anyway, a Venusian Moment Like This is a moment for us to consider our esthetics, our values and how they are tied to our hierarchy of ethical concerns or considerations.
Fascinating, fascinating. I mean, for example, most of our dilemmas that we run into with respect to pleasure will at some point run up against what we find to be moral? Is it good to overspend on my credit card, or is it immature or irresponsible somehow, and therefore, there's something I need to have stronger ethics with respect to how I manage money, because I'm overspending and getting a bunch of credit card debt.
So pleasure, ethics, boundaries, decision making, hierarchies around pleasure. These tend to come in when Venus crosses the south node, but they're related to Venus in general. Venus is the pleasure principle, but the pleasure principle still has to exist within a sense of morality, goodness, fairness, justice, truth, etc.
So she's constantly negotiating her desires within frameworks of right and wrong. Is the point and again, like I would say, you know, most of us like and I'm not suggesting everyone needs to be a vegan. I'm not a vegan, but one of the things that you know, vegans are always pointing out. I've had a lot of vegan friends have been a vegan for period of time in my life, vegans are always pointing out that we're we're very selective about what kinds of murder or death we find acceptable.
And in a true sense of valuing all life, vegans often claim that you know that there's animal life is just as valuable as any other kind of life. I'm not certainly making the claim that everyone needs to be a vegan. Like I said, I am not a vegan, but I can articulate my own ethical reasons around my choices.
And the point is that most of us would never think about the process of articulating our values in relation to something like food and what we enjoy eating, or what we find nourishing, or what we find necessary for health, in relation to something like pleasure and morality, like they're all interconnected in ancient philosophy, and those are typically things that come up for better or worse, with Venus at the south node.
Now again. Just to clarify, I don't want to tell anyone how to eat or how to think. That's not the point of what I was just talking about. But I hope that this has been instructive and interesting. Yeah, this kind of thought, this would be a fun day to teach you a little bit about noticing how weighty, subtle dignities can be when they can add up to something that doesn't necessarily appear there on the surface.
Okay, so after I sign off, there is an informational video about the year one program. I hope you'll stick around. Learn about it, come study with us. The programs are absolutely fantastic, the community, the staff that we have, the classroom, forums that we create for conversation, dialog and the Nightlight journey of not just this first year, but like all of our programs and everything that we have built for you is really special, so I hope you'll check it out and come study with us.
All right. Take it easy, everyone. Bye.
