The Moon has just entered Sagittarius and is immediately sextiling Mercury and then conjoining Saturn and squaring Neptune. A busy day of aspects. Let’s take a look at each of them through the poetry of the darkening Moon…
First, as soon as the Moon enters a new sign (if we practice that subtle art of lunar listening) we will begin to re-cognize the shape of our thoughts and notice the new direction of our moods. Thoughts, moods, emotions, ideas, and even actions and speech…all of these things, when reflected upon will become noticeably different. As the Moon is leaving the sign of Scorpio and entering the sign of the centaur, we might notice that our thoughts are suddenly soaring, our bodies suddenly feel lighter, and our mind pounds like a drum toward the sky. We begin to fantasize about truth and meaning, answers and destiny, and our mood takes on the hoof pounding quality of the cosmic archer and his angry joy.
But what about the Moon’s relationship to the Sun? What about that angle by which the light reflects and presents to us…a late waning centaur? The Sun in the last ten degrees of Aquarius right now marks the peaceful Venusian passing of the rebel outsider. Taken to our Sagittarian horses, the dying light of the Moon invites us to fantasize our way out of the fantasy of liberation through progress. Like Einstein on his deathbed, or Hawking slurring out finally into the black hole of his own event horizon…can we fly beyond our triumphant rebellions and most important breakthroughs? Can the music of that which has no ultimate purpose or meaning spirit us beyond these drying conundrums? We are susceptible now to a kind of excited leaving, though still a leaving in the night. A slow torch and a guiding smile just in front of us.
This afternoon the Moon will first sextile Mercury, whose just turned direct. Before we hasten our leaving, a few things will establish themselves, like the last will and testament of our Moon cycle. We’ll anchor our understanding, say a few last words, and speak the freedom of our loneliness. Watch for the sudden desire to lash out or speak “truth.” Just because it’s true doesn’t make it important or interesting. And just because it’s interesting doesn’t make it true. Mercury and the Moon this afternoon will add to the mix of the day a communicative, inquisitive, rebellious, and exploratory mood.
Next the Moon will conjoin with Saturn, and our moods will heavy, focusing on incurable problems and problems whose structures are becoming clearer. Suddenly we might find an ironic, upside down kind of excitement. My “problem” is eternal and its own problem. Laughter leads into a blackening of the black. Freedom through the problem insighting us. Another way of putting this is that when the Moon conjoins Saturn in Sagittarius there is a strange freedom we might find in various limitations, restrictions, or “troubles.”
Finally the Moon will square Neptune, inviting us to grapple with the imaginal through knowledge. The centaur loves to “know,” while the two fish love to encircle and whirlpool knowledge back into the place where knowledge does not need us…again this theme of “giving out” or “giving through,” the yielding of our certainty, like the rider who charges through the plains all the while lost in the clouds. A practical question might be, “Where are we most vulnerable to our own ideas?” Do our most passionate convictions tend to overshadow other areas of our lives? When do our beliefs become atmospheres that cloak the reality of others or the reality of something else? Are we drunk on our own notions of truth? A sober looking truth might be a nasty or sloppy drunk to someone else…
Prayer: Rebel king at the outskirts, holds his own hands as he sinks into the west, the dawn of colors, and the varieties of sounds galloping forward
