Adam Elenbaas: Hey everyone, this is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology. Happy Friday, everybody. Today, we're going to take a look at Mars Retrograde in the sign of Leo, and we're going to take it through all 12 whole signs, giving you some horoscopes to work with. This is about a month in advance of Mars actually turning retrograde in the sign of Leo. I think it’s good to start thinking about these topics now, as Mars is in Leo and beginning to move through the degrees that it will retrograde later in December. I’ll present the timeline for everyone, and then we’re going to do flash horoscopes, where I’ll briefly go over the topics of the house and give you a sense of what to look for based on your rising sign. Of course, you could also listen to this if you prefer sun sign horoscopes or the sign you usually listen to.
But that’s where we’re headed today. Remember to like and subscribe. We’re aiming to get to 80,000 subscribers by the spring equinox, so a big thank you to everyone who has helped us nearly double our monthly average in subscribers. It’s free, and it helps us grow our community, channel, and business. We really appreciate it. Transcripts of these daily talks, as always, can be found on the website, nightlightastrology.com.
Two promotions today: One is the November webinar, which is coming up on the 21st. You can sign up under the Live Events tab on the homepage. I’ll be presenting "Pluto in Aquarius: AI, Aliens, and New World Orders" on November 21. If you can’t attend live, you’ll still get the recording. Hope to see some of you there. It should be a fun talk, and I’m really looking forward to it, especially as Pluto enters Aquarius again this month. Then, in just one week, the final day for registration for the new class "Ancient Astrology for the Modern Mystic" will be November 16. It’s not too late to join, and we offer need-based tuition for those who might need some help making it happen. After I sign off today, there’s an informational video about the program, which I tag onto all videos during enrollment season, so you can learn more if you want to study with us. It’s a great time to do so with Pluto moving into Aquarius and Uranus into Gemini in the year ahead. These are great transits for starting an astrological apprenticeship, whether you want to practice professionally or just deepen your own understanding of astrology. The program is designed for students with varying levels of experience and interest. Whether you want to develop your own relationship with your chart or pursue a professional practice, the program meets you where you're at.
Hellenistic astrology is a beautiful and powerful system to study, and I think no matter what your current practice is, going back to the origins of the craft will deepen your understanding. Anyway, the informational video is tagged at the end of today’s session. We start in just a week, so I hope to see some of you there.
Now, I’m going to shift over to the real-time clock where we will look at Mars in Leo through all 12 whole sign houses. We’ll do some brief flash horoscopes to give you a sense of the topics coming up. First, let’s lay out the timeline. Today is Friday, November 8. If we move forward a bit, we see that Mars in Leo will move up to the sixth degree by early December, and then it stations around the seventh and turns retrograde by the eighth. So, between the sixth and eighth is the range in which I describe the stationing, the turning retrograde. This period is often experienced as one of the most acute parts of the Mars retrograde process. You may notice significant shifts in momentum or life direction, especially if you have planets in the first five or six degrees of fixed signs. You’ll want to watch for that in particular.
But what I’m going to do now is focus on the whole sign house system, because regardless of whether or not you have planets activated by Mars, everyone will experience this transit by house. The topics of each house will become active during the Mars retrograde. One thing I should mention is that the retrograde happens on December 8, but Mars will be in Leo from now until early January. By January 6, Mars will leave Leo. That’s a long time for Mars to be in Leo, and it spends an entire month retrograde in Leo, which is significant. I see a lot of people almost focusing on the upcoming retrograde as though the whole story is happening in Cancer. There is a significant part of the retrograde in Cancer, and we’ll certainly address that, but we can’t overlook the Leo portion. So today, I wanted to give you some flash horoscopes to help us get ready for which part of your chart will be active and some ideas to work with.
Before we dive into the signs, I want to emphasize a few things. First, if you haven’t yet watched the major significations of Mars retrograde that I did yesterday, be sure to check that out, as I’ll list some general themes that you can apply to the house topics we’re covering today. I recommend watching both videos together. You don’t have to watch them in order, but I think they complement each other well.
Mars retrograde can bring up psychological issues related to our willpower, efforts, ambitions, and emotions like anger and frustration. It’s about how we work with these energies in constructive ways. Sometimes Mars retrograde can feel like a lack of momentum or control over something we want to accomplish. It’s as though Mars stops working, and we’re stuck in frustration. On the other hand, for people who’ve dealt with frustrations in the past, Mars retrograde can be a turning point where they suddenly access more power, confidence, and effectiveness.
For example, when I was coming out of the bhakti yoga tradition and focusing more on my health, I found out that I had low testosterone, so I started testosterone replacement therapy. This was during a Mars retrograde, and it had a big impact on my life. It helped me gain weight in the gym, which contributed to positive changes in my health and physique. This all started under a Mars retrograde. In my case, it was a time of revising and reworking the Mars principle, focusing on my body and health. It’s not always that Mars simply doesn’t work; retrogrades can refine things and bring improvements. Athletes, for example, may perfect their shot or stroke during Mars retrograde. So, sometimes Mars retrograde is about refining things, and sometimes it’s about dealing with a lack of power or momentum.
I hope that video I made yesterday helps provide a good set of tools to work with as we explore the house topics today. I recommend listening to this for your rising sign, as it corresponds with the whole sign house system in your chart, but you can listen to whatever you prefer.
Now, let’s begin with Aries. Mars will be in Leo through early January, with the retrograde coming in early December. This is happening in your fifth house, which is associated with creativity, pleasure, joy, and the things that connect us to our authentic, creative selves. The fifth house is called the Joy of Venus, and it represents the joy that comes from doing what you love and living in alignment with your purpose. With Mars in the fifth house, I wonder how you will be looking at reorienting or refining your creative life. This could also relate to shifts in your approach to children or how you role-model for them, especially if you have kids. It might involve changes or challenges in parenting.
Aries
For Aries, Mars retrograde could trigger a period of transformation in your creative ambitions. This is a time to reconsider what you find pleasurable and assess what you can control versus what you can’t, especially in relation to enjoyment and passion. Your approach to pleasure might be shifting, so it’s worth reflecting on what gives you true satisfaction.
Taurus
For Taurus, Mars retrograde in your fourth house—representing home, family, and your roots—may bring up unresolved conflicts or family dynamics. You could find yourself revisiting old family issues or ancestral patterns. The fourth house also governs power dynamics in the home, so expect changes in how authority is shared within your household, whether it's in parenting, relationships, or other areas. Additionally, delays or revisions to home projects might come up, and issues involving fathers could be highlighted.
Gemini
For Gemini, Mars in the third house puts the spotlight on communication, siblings, and your immediate environment. Conflicts related to how you express yourself, both mentally and verbally, may arise, especially when opinions or values differ. There could also be disruptions in your daily life, like annoying construction in your neighborhood, or temporary setbacks that challenge your usual routines. This period also offers an opportunity to reconsider your judgments and soften your stance on certain issues or people.
Cancer
Cancer's second house of money, values, and resources is activated by Mars retrograde. You might face delays or revisions related to money, skills, or assets you are trying to build. It's a good time to reassess how you manage your resources—whether it's time, energy, or money—and perhaps revise your approach to spending or investing. Conflicts around money or spending could also emerge, challenging your financial strategies.
Leo
For Leo, Mars retrograde in your first house affects your identity, appearance, and personal behavior. This could be a time of self-reflection, where you reconsider who you are and how you assert yourself. You may find yourself reworking your physical appearance, fitness habits, or even your health routines. This period may also involve revising how you show up in the world and how you balance power and control in your life.
Virgo
Mars retrograde in your 12th house could highlight unconscious patterns, solitude, or hidden fears. This might be a time when you feel overwhelmed by outside circumstances or hidden influences that disrupt your sense of peace. Virgos may also confront deeper issues related to assertiveness or aggression, which can be challenging for someone who typically seeks to be caring and service-oriented. This transit invites you to explore your fears and limitations, especially those that might undermine you.
Libra
With Mars retrograde in your 11th house of friendships, groups, and communities, you may find yourself reevaluating your social connections and the influence of those around you. This could be a time to reconsider which groups or people truly support your ambitions and which ones may be draining or even toxic. Power dynamics within your social circles may shift, and there could be conflicts or divisions in your friendships or professional networks that need attention.
Scorpio
For Scorpio, Mars retrograde in the 10th house of career and profession prompts you to reflect on your ambitions and leadership roles. There may be shifts in your career direction or purpose, and you could be reevaluating your work environment. This is a good time to examine the power dynamics within your workplace, as well as conflicts related to your ambitions. You might also consider whether the career path you're on is still fulfilling or if a change is in order.
Sagittarius
For Sagittarius, Mars retrograde in your 9th house of philosophy, higher learning, and travel could spark a shift in your beliefs or convictions. This may be a time when you reconsider long-held opinions or philosophies, deciding whether they are still worth fighting for. You might also be exploring new teachers or mentors, reshaping your curriculum if you're an educator, or rethinking your approach to travel or studying abroad.
Capricorn
Mars retrograde in your 8th house brings themes of power dynamics and shared resources. You may be dealing with issues around what is owed to you versus what you owe others, especially in intimate or financial relationships. This could involve revisiting contracts, both literal and metaphorical, or facing deeper existential fears, like those related to mortality or your anxieties about the future. Power struggles or imbalances in relationships could also be a key theme during this time.
Aquarius
For Aquarius, Mars retrograde in your 7th house of relationships (both business and romantic) brings a focus on power dynamics within partnerships. There may be conflicts in relationships that highlight issues of control, desire, and individuality. You might need to negotiate how both you and your partner (or partners) can each stand strong without one feeling diminished. This period is a good time to reassess how you share power, space, and attention in your most important relationships.
Pisces
Finally, for Pisces, Mars retrograde in your 6th house of work, health, and daily routines may prompt you to rethink your approach to long-term tasks and responsibilities. You might question whether your daily efforts are still aligned with your values or passions, and whether your routine still serves you. There could be a shift in how you deal with challenges or hardships, and you might feel the need to reassess what’s worth continuing and what no longer resonates with your sense of purpose.
Final Thoughts
As Mars begins its retrograde, it's important to start reflecting now, even before the full retrograde period takes effect. The themes activated by Mars entering each house will help set the stage for this retrograde, and understanding these patterns can give you clarity on how to handle challenges and changes. Take this time to reflect, reassess, and adjust where needed in order to align more closely with your true desires and goals.
I hope this breakdown helps you navigate the Mars retrograde in a more grounded and insightful way! Remember, astrology isn’t just about predicting events—it’s a tool to bring the soul into everyday life and create meaningful reflection.
