Hey everyone, this is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology. Today, we are going to take a look at Mercury moving through the heart of the Sun, which is also referred to as Mercury's cazimi. The fact that this is also happening at the time of our last quarter Moon in Gemini is significant because this amplifies the power of Mercury at this time during the moon cycle. So that is our agenda for today. We're going to take a look at that and give you some things to watch for as it's coming through.
Before we get into it, as always, don't forget to like and subscribe. Share your comments in the comment section. Okay, well, let's take a look at the real time clock as we always do so that we can get a feel a little visual of the transit itself before discussing the archetypal signature. So here is Mercury is at the heart of the Sun, Wednesday, September 6. Now, if we back this up just slightly, you will see that yesterday, Tuesday, September 5, Mercury was at 14 degrees and, in the process of 24 hours, has moved all the way through the cazimi, and it's just passing through so this was yesterday into today, and you should still be feeling the effects into tomorrow and at the same exact time.
The other thing to watch for is you'll notice the last quarter square from the moon, so that's the Last Quarter Moon in Gemini ruled by that Mercury cazimi. So, a very powerful moment, and so what I want to do today is give you five different things to watch for given this very strong last quarter moon Mercury cazimi moment, considering that the last quarter moon is also ruled by Mercury is in Mercury sign of Gemini.
So Mercury cazimi at the last quarter moon, here is what to watch for. These aren't in order of strength or importance. It's just a list, and I know that some of you really appreciate having some notes on the screen to keep things organized in your head. It certainly helps me to have these talking points as well.
So anyway, number one is that we will notice that something that has been taken apart is starting to be put back together or that we've reached the end of some kind of deconstruction process that we've been going through, maybe dating back sometime into August.
The reason for this is that the last quarter moon is generally happening at the end of a cycle. It's a critical part of the process of deconstruction that takes place from the last quarter moon down to the new before something is put back together again in the form of a new lunar cycle. At the same time, Mercury crossing the cazimi moment is also a mark of rebirth, and generally speaking, the retrograde phase will be about deconstruction or an undoing or an unraveling or taking apart of things.
In fact, if you look at the times of year that Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, This is, of course, from the symbolic standpoint of the Northern Hemisphere, we have two signs where in which the return of darkness takes place or the descent of light. So you have in Gemini the turn toward the summer solstice where darkness will start creeping back in, and then Virgo, you have by the end of the sign the handing over in Libra to the dark half of the year.
Now, the symbolism is really important because the Zodiac is a story of the alternation between light and dark through 12 stages as experienced from the northern hemisphere, but indicative of a larger eternal cycle between light and dark that different traditions have talked about in different contexts that Tao Te Ching, the I-Ching talks about the same exact cycle in a different way.
Now, when we see the light turning back toward darkness or when we see the light handing over to the dark half of the year, those are moments that can be thought of as moments of things falling apart. But we know that within the great cycle that the Zodiac depicts, that falling apart takes place within an eternal circular dynamic that includes putting things back together that have been torn apart or broken down.
So Mercury as a planet tends to represent that chaotic magic that comes along and throws your flight plans off track or, you know, it might feel like it's making you miss your taxi ride or something like that, but ends up signifying a very magical process, that the chaos is just one part of.
In a Mercury retrograde cycle, you will often feel the chaos coming as the planet stations to turn retrograde, and then as it goes through its retrograde in the combustion with the Sun and then the eventual cazimi, it's really a process of things falling apart, but divinely, so that they can be rearranged and put back together in a new or different way and if we do the work of participating and being reflective, we often find that this process is healing and educational, you know, it's not always easy.
But the point is that at the last quarter moon, which is the signification of a deterioration, heading toward the building of something new, that we have a mirror image of Mercury, hitting that moment of cazimi, which is essentially the end of the deterioration and the beginning of the rebirth process.
So you can broadly think right now about energy, you know, sometimes I think about astrological transits in terms of energy that I'm feeling or noticing around me or within me, that kind of encompasses everything, and other times, I think it's helpful to think about what's happening as something that's limited to a particular sphere of activity or a particular area of my life.
So, for example, you can think about this broadly as the energy of Mercury, and things that have been a little chaotic or things that have been getting sort of disassembled and rearranged, and you might be reaching some kind of, you know, a moment of the deconstructive part is reaching its conclusion and now a reconstruction will begin, and you can think about that just energetically. Or you could, for example, look at the particular house that Mercury's located in the whole sign house of Virgo, for example, in your birth chart, and get a feel for the specific topics that may be involved.
I've been noticing, for example, with Mercury's retrograde in my fifth house that a lot of this pertains to this kind of reconstruction process of my kids attending a new school, my younger daughter going to school for the first time, and everything from bedtime routines to lots of different facets, Mercurial facets of everyday life going through a breakdown and reconstruction. It lands in my fifth house, which is the place of children.
During the same retrograde, I mentioned this, I think in the horoscopes this week, I've noticed that I'm returning to playing guitar, again, taking guitar lessons for the first time in a really long time. So it can be so mundane, you know, and so basic. But you'll notice that the process of deconstruction of things kind of coming apart is reaching conclusions so that whatever the process is yielding in the way of something new or something reconstructed, revised, or recreated is ready to start coming forward.
Number two is a shedding of mercurial skin. Now, a shedding of mercurial skin can be really interesting because it could literally apply to your cell phone or a computer or technology that you use. An app that you use, you know, places that you frequent, or people that you talk to, or ways that you have of communicating or the way you get to work. Mercury is such a shifty planet in terms of all the different things that it can signify. But right now, you think of this as a last quarter moon, a shedding of skin of releasing of a cycle, and you think of mercury cazimi, very empowered Mercury cazimi, as the rebirthing of something mercurial.
So overall, you could also think of this as a shedding of mercurial skin, especially pertaining to things like mind speech, technology, communication, perceptions, habits of thought, and the shedding of some things.
This can be super, super basic, though, like you're going to literally change the plugin that you use on your website; we had to change during this Mercury retrograde, a plugin that we use for our contact form because we weren't getting people's contact form sent to us, although they would fill them out on the website. So, super basic, Mercury Retrograde kind of thing, and the shedding of mercurial skin can be something just that functional and every day, so watch for those kinds of mercurial settings.
Number three would be old habits of thought, mind perception, or communication being released. Last quarter moon and Gemini is a great last quarter moon to look at the limits of a particular way of thinking or perceiving or communicating or learning and saying, you know what, this way of learning doesn't work for me any longer, or this way of talking or communicating or perceiving. Sometimes, people experience breakthroughs like that because of therapy; you know, a therapist helps you recognize a pattern that you have in the way that you think, relate, or perceive.
So, right now, it's a fantastic time for there to be a healthier, more mature, or just a brand new way of doing something on the level of mind. Maybe releasing patterns of mind and behavior that aren't serving you any longer. Ashley and I have been reading a book that I've told you, guys, about a few times called No Bad Parts; it's about internal family systems as a therapy model. It's really interesting, and in this internal family systems model, sometimes a voice and its role has sort of reached its its point of, you know, it's not, it's not so helpful to have it doing what it's done in the past. So you have to talk to it and maybe kindly give it a new assignment, you know, that can be very much in line with this moment of the retrograde cycle.
Anyway, number four would be a moment of empowered thought speech or ideas. It's amazing to me how regularly Mercury cazimi's coincide with ideas, whether it's an idea for something to do with, I don't know, the way that we do dinner time at our house, or the way we do breakfasts, you know.
Or if it's something bigger, like the way I'm organizing, you know, the way that I organize my schedule or, even bigger than that, if it's a letter that I need to write to someone and communicate something that's difficult, but I need to get it off my chest, maybe I never send it, but I just write it for myself.
This is a moment when Mercury is at the heart of the Sun; it's as though it has some clarity, some illumination, so that our thoughts, words, ideas, communication can be very strong and brilliant and clear or courageous. Don't be surprised if someone also comes at you with something that's like that, you know, you get a letter from someone yourself that says, hey, I need to say something, or I have an announcement to make or something like that.
Number five delegating or receiving a task, responsibility, or seal of authority. Now, one of the things that was said about Mercury retrogrades was that it places Mercury at the heart of the Sun. The heart of the Sun is said to be like one enthroned, sitting temporarily seated upon the throne or given the seal of the king or queen's authority, like a messenger that can go and make diplomatic decisions on behalf of the king or queen.
So, an empowered moment of like being given a delegation or being empowered to do something, being empowered to act on behalf of someone or something, speaking for something or someone larger than yourself, or being granted some greater authority.
For example, you know, I'll never forget when I had a moment in graduate school where my teacher was out and had to leave sick and asked if I would facilitate the rest of class, probably because I was the only one who showed up all the time for that particular class.
Wow, you know, it's this moment of feeling like you're stepping into a role that maybe one day you could see yourself filling; it's not that time yet, but for the moment, you're being asked to take on that leadership or something. So you wonder with a cazimi like this at the last quarter moon, which also can signify a shifting in the balance of power.
Last quarter moons can be about what is being gifted or handed down as the old cycle ends, and a new one is beginning like inheritance or legacy and lineage, so last quarter moons with a signature of lineage and a Mercury cazimi could very much be about inheriting or being granted a temporary moment of empowerment from someone in authority.
Authority is a word that most of the time when we hear it, we think of abuses of authority by authority. I mean, I would imagine the best version being someone who's just an empowered teacher or leader of some kind that says, you know, hey, let me promote you, let me would you do something special, and there's a sense of being honored that can happen with a transit like this.
So these are five things to watch for around this last quarter moon, a very powerful Mercurial moon. Don't be surprised if you're also just really talkative. If you feel like you know you have a little bit more buzz and glow about you because this is it feels like a busy honeybee energy.
So, that's what I've got for today. I hope you found this useful and that you will be able to recognize the transits in your midst just a little bit better after visiting our talks; I look forward to more tomorrow. Take it easy, everyone. Bye.
