Hey everyone, this is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology. Today, we're going to take a look at Mercury turning retrograde in the sign of Sagittarius, which is happening early next week. We're going to prepare for it today because Mercury is slowing down to station over the weekend. We’ll also look at all 12 whole sign house horoscopes. You can listen to these for your Sun or your rising sign. These will be brief, targeted interpretations of the placement of Mercury retrograde by house in your birth chart. That’s our agenda for today.
Before we dive in, remember to like and subscribe. It really helps our channel grow and supports our business and community. We rely on people to give that little click on the like button and to subscribe. You can also turn on notifications if you want to be alerted when our latest videos drop. Thank you for doing that. You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on my website, NightlightAstrology.com.
As you know, we’re in the first week of our annual Kickstarter campaign. Our goal this year is to raise the support of 1,937 backers by January 1st. We’re off to a good start this week. I’ll take you over to the Kickstarter page in a moment. You can find the link to the Kickstarter in the comment section, in the description of the video, and on the website NightlightAstrology.com. There’s a tab that says “2025 Kickstarter.” When you go there, click on “Back this project,” and scroll down to see a variety of rewards for your donation.
At the end of today’s video, I’ll break down all the rewards and explain what they entail. If you have questions or want to know more about your options when you donate, we have tons of classes available. All of our training programs are over 50% off, and the discounts increase when you bundle programs together. We have four years of curriculum, master class series, Roots and Spheres, Moon Circle, and much more. There are also readings available for your horoscope for the year ahead and the major astrological transits of the year ahead.
These are all great ways we say thank you when you support the channel. We truly appreciate it. Again, at the end of the video, if you stick around, there’s a little attached video explaining the different rewards you can get when you donate. This is our biggest sale of the year, in a sense, as we use it to promote and support the Kickstarter and our channel. So be sure to check that out.
Every day during the Kickstarter, I like to share a bit about why I think the channel is worth supporting. This week, I’ve talked about what goes into the content every day—prayer, research, and the immersion into an astrological lifestyle that shapes the content you consume here. There’s another factor that I include, which if you watch my channel, you’re familiar with: storytelling.
I’m very deliberate in crafting the stories you hear. Sometimes anecdotes come to me spontaneously, but often, I take time to carefully prepare the stories I share. These personal stories—whether about my life, someone I know, or something I’ve seen—are intended to be relatable. Over the years, I believe that storytelling has become one of the most special parts of this channel. When you tune in, you’re not just getting astrology; you’re getting something personal and relatable.
For those of you who find that comforting, I think it’s a valuable part of this work and one of the reasons the channel is worth supporting. A lot of care goes into that process, and if you enjoy it, I appreciate you tuning in. Thank you to everyone who’s already donated. If you haven’t yet, please consider supporting us in the year ahead. Let’s see if we can hit our goal this year.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the real-time chart to focus on Mercury’s upcoming retrograde. Mercury will be stationing over the weekend, so by Monday, November 25, we’ll begin to feel it. The station point is significant for Mercury. Often, what we think of as classic Mercury retrograde symptoms actually occur during the station. When Mercury stops moving, things can get stuck. It’s like the lines at the airport stop moving, or your day’s flow gets interrupted. There may be delays, setbacks, reroutes, or a general feeling of frustration.
Those typical Mercury retrograde symbols—things not happening the way we want them—are often most noticeable during the station itself. So, over the weekend, as Mercury slows down and seems to almost stop moving, we’ll start feeling the retrograde effects. This happens even before Mercury officially goes retrograde on Tuesday or Wednesday. The retrograde itself will last until December 14, and then Mercury will station direct around December 16.
After that, Mercury will move forward through all the degrees it retrograded over, revising everything, and that forward motion will continue through the end of the year. By January 7 or 8, Mercury will finally leave Sagittarius. So, we have a nice long stay of Mercury in the sign of Sagittarius.
This is a place where Mercury is traditionally considered to be in its detriment or exile. But that doesn’t mean anything particularly bad. It just indicates a kind of archetypal tension between Mercury and Jupiter that Mercury will be working through during this period. Understanding that tension can help us navigate the retrograde more effectively.
Remember, Mercury is opposite to Jupiter throughout the retrograde, with Jupiter in its detriment in Mercury’s sign. So, the two planets are working through a mutual reception and opposition. This creates a dynamic, but I’ll focus more on the house placements of Mercury retrograde in your chart today.
We’re going to go through the horoscopes from Aries to Pisces. Actually, let’s start with Pisces today. I feel like I owe it to Pisces, since I promised them we’d start with Pisces in our monthly overview and then forgot. So, I’ll begin with Pisces today and then work backward through the Zodiac. It’ll be fun!
Now, let’s talk about the possible significations of Mercury retrograde depending on where it lands in your birth chart. You’ll hear the exact transit location of Mercury’s retrograde for each house, depending on your rising sign. Remember, with whole sign houses, your rising sign corresponds with the first house, and we’ll interpret from there.
So if you're reading for an Aries Sun, you put Aries in the first house. That's why we say listen to your rising sign, because unless your Sun is in the first house, the house locations will not be accurate to the locations in your birth chart unless you're listening for your rising, or unless your Sun is actually in the first whole sign house of your chart. I have to mention this every month because people ask every single time, and I think it bears repeating: listen for your rising sign if you want the transit location in your whole sign house chart.
Anyway, whatever makes sense to you is obviously fine. On that note, we'll start with Pisces today and go backward through the zodiac for fun. The chapters are listed, so if you want to jump around, you can. But remember, retrogrades give an opportunity for reworking, reflection, revision, change of circumstance, a change of direction, a delay or a setback, followed by reworking. These are the kinds of themes that everyone is dealing with during a Mercury retrograde.
Now, let’s look at the topics. If you're a Pisces rising, these interpretations will be brief reminders of the house topics. For you, Mercury retrograde is happening in the 10th house. This is your career house, the place of how you interact with the world, your reputation, standing in society, and your vocation. It's about your craft, skills, abilities, and the contribution you make in the world. So, for Pisces, we’re talking about shifts within the workplace, how you do work, what you’re doing for work, or the people and environment you work with.
During this retrograde, you may experience changes, breakdowns, delays, or reflections in your vocational life. There could be a shift in perspective or circumstance regarding your career. Watch for those changes in the career house while Mercury is retrograde.
Next, for Aquarius rising, Mercury retrograde is happening in your 11th house. This is the house of groups, allies, friends, organizations, and communities. We’re looking at a process of change, revision, or reflection within these groups. Given the tension of Mercury in a Jupiter-ruled sign, you might experience the reordering or revising of philosophies, beliefs, or opinions within these communities. You could also face disagreements or clashes of ideas, approaches, or strategies within your social circles or professional communities.
For Aquarians, this retrograde could bring about a time of reflection and change in the groups you belong to—whether that’s friendships, alliances, or professional circles. Pay attention to the dynamics and how your priorities or direction with these groups might shift.
For Capricorn rising, Mercury retrograde is taking place in the 12th house. This is a more unconscious place, where things are not always fully seen or understood. Watch for synchronicities, messages, or hidden dynamics coming up—perhaps through dreams or altered states of consciousness. There may be a greater ability to see beyond the veil and understand things that have been previously hidden.
For Capricorns, this could be a period of becoming more aware of unconscious dynamics in your life—whether that’s at work, in relationships, or within yourself. This is a time to look at your hidden beliefs or influences and examine whether they are helping or hindering you. Mercury retrograde in the 12th is a great opportunity to review and evaluate your subconscious beliefs and how they are subtly influencing your behavior.
Next, with Sagittarius rising, Mercury retrograde is happening in your 1st house. This is a time for self-reflection, particularly regarding your thoughts, behavior, attitudes, and health. It’s a great period for reviewing how you communicate, whether there’s a more effective or direct way to express yourself, and whether your beliefs align with the way you present yourself to the world.
For Sagittarians, this is a personal review, where you can examine what’s working and what isn’t within yourself—whether that’s related to your physical health, your self-concept, or how you communicate. Use this time to reflect on your energy and how you manage it. It’s a great moment to adjust and refine your approach to life.
For Scorpio rising, Mercury retrograde falls in the 2nd house of assets, wealth, money, and values. This could be a time for revising your budget, reviewing your financial situation, or revisiting business decisions. If you own your own business, you might reflect on which products to continue selling, which to remove, and which new ones to introduce.
In the 2nd house, Mercury retrograde often leads to a period of financial review or reworking. It’s a great time to reassess how you manage your money, pay off debts, or prioritize your assets. You may also reflect on your skills and abilities—what you have and what you need, or what you want to refine or develop further. This is a personal inventory moment, where you take stock of what you value and how to better manage your resources, both financial and personal.
So, for Scorpio rising, Mercury retrograde in the 2nd house invites you to reconsider your financial strategy, values, and skills.
Which do I want to use? Which am I tired of using? Which am I done with? So, this kind of reflection around what you have, what you're developing, what you're building, and what you need or want to have—it's a good time for that. With Mercury retrograde in your second house, let's move forward to Libra rising. Backward, I should say.
Mercury is retrograding in your third house. This house reflects the mood, environment, and circumstances around you. Think 1,000 years ago—the third house was the village you lived in. Today, it's a bit more abstract for most of us, but we still think of it as the places we frequent online. When Mercury turns retrograde here, there's an opportunity to reflect upon or shift our cultural orientation, or to change things around in terms of the daily psychic environment we inhabit. Consider what aspects of that environment are healthy for you versus those that may be toxic or stressful.
I see this as a time to reflect on things like communication technology. You might be doing a little traveling, or you might experience delays or setbacks with travel plans. There could also be some focus on changes in your relationships with siblings, or something your siblings are going through that you're somehow involved in or supporting. Mercury retrograde in the third house is also a great time to revise the features of your everyday environment—like technology. Maybe you’re getting a new cell phone or changing vehicles. Even small things, like construction on the road to your favorite coffee shop, can feel like part of a subtle shift in your psychic scenery.
Moving on to Virgo rising—when Virgo is rising, Mercury retrograde occurs in the fourth house. This is the house of home, family, property, living environment, and ancestral karma. A Mercury retrograde in this house allows you to rearrange things in your home or shift your living environment. For many, this can be beneficial. It’s a time to look at the environment and ask, "What about this space feels enlivening and exciting, and what feels stagnant or boring?"
Our home environment shouldn't be too hyper-stimulating, but it should be a place where we can rest, recover, and tap into creativity. The fourth house relates to the roots of the chart, and Mercury retrograde here can prompt you to revise what your home and family life look and feel like. If there’s a lack of warmth or liveliness, you might want to bring in those qualities—Mercury and Sagittarius favor lively, buoyant energy. It's like enjoying a good conversation with friends where you discuss ideas, passions, and beliefs in an easygoing way. This is a good time to think about how to bring that same energy into your home. You may also reflect on differences in belief or ideology within your family and consider how those differences are influencing your home environment.
Let’s move along to Leo. For Leos, Mercury is retrograding in the fifth house, which is the house of creativity, joy, and enjoyment. If you're a creative person, you might go through a period of revising or refining your creative process. This is a time of rethinking your approach to creative projects. It could also bring up issues related to children or pregnancy, which are part of the fifth house. There may be changes in how your kids are learning, growing, or developing, or changes in their schooling.
You may also reflect on things that once brought you joy but no longer do. If there’s something in your life that used to make you happy but has lost its appeal, now is the time to explore something new that can bring back that sense of fulfillment. The fifth house also represents the things we do for happiness, and Mercury retrograde here could prompt you to reassess what truly brings you joy.
For some Leos, this could involve a creative block or tension in how you express yourself. If you're someone who expresses yourself passionately, you might find yourself navigating conflicts or misunderstandings with others. You may need to adjust how you present yourself or reconsider who you're expressing yourself to. Creative expression can feel stifled if there’s tension in the environment, and Mercury retrograde could encourage you to find a better balance between your creative needs and social dynamics.
Next, if Cancer is on the ascendant, Mercury retrogrades in your sixth house. The sixth house is associated with work, health, and service, but it also relates to conflicts and struggles. This could be a time when breakdowns in communication occur—particularly around work or health matters. You might face conflicts or misunderstandings, and this could lead to a need to reconcile your views with someone else’s. This Mercury retrograde is taking place in a Jupiter-ruled sign, while Jupiter is opposite in the twelfth house. So, there's a focus on resolving conflicts related to communication in a way that allows both parties to live with different perspectives, or perhaps even separate if necessary.
Additionally, this period is great for reflecting on what work, habits, or practices are worth continuing, and which ones might not be worth the effort anymore. It’s a time to assess where you put your energy and whether it’s paying off in the long run.
For Gemini rising, Mercury retrogrades in the seventh house of relationships. This gives you the opportunity to see some kind of revision or change in key relationships in your life. Whether it’s a lover, spouse, or close friend, you may experience a shift in the dynamics between you and others. This is also a time to reflect on differing beliefs and values between you and a significant other.
Given the opposition to Jupiter in your first house, you might feel some tension around conflicting ideals or philosophies in your relationships. This period is a great opportunity to find compromise or middle ground. It’s also a time to stay open to new ways of thinking and to reflect on how relationships evolve over time.
For Taurus rising, Mercury retrogrades in your eighth house, which is the house of karmic debts, shared resources, and transformation. This is a powerful time for working on financial matters—particularly paying off debts or fulfilling obligations. Mercury retrograde in the eighth house can bring up unresolved debts or unresolved dynamics in shared relationships, prompting you to clear the air and settle old accounts.
You may also reflect on the exchanges within your relationships—whether you're receiving what you give, or whether you’re putting too much into situations where you're not receiving enough in return. The eighth house is also connected to fears and anxieties, and Mercury retrograde here offers an opportunity to reassess and untangle any emotional or psychological knots that may have been holding you back. Think of it as sorting through a complicated mess of wiring and clearing out what no longer serves you.
Finally, for Aries rising, Mercury retrogrades in your ninth house of higher beliefs, philosophy, wisdom, teaching, and travel. This could be a time of unexpected developments while traveling, or you might find that your journey leads you somewhere completely different than you anticipated. This is also a great period to reflect on your beliefs, philosophies, or political views. You might challenge some of your old ideas and consider new perspectives.
Mercury retrograde in the ninth house also invites you to reflect on what you’ve learned or taught, and how your higher ideals shape your worldview. This could be a time of intellectual growth, but also a time for questioning, shifting, and rethinking your overall philosophy of life.
Those are the major themes I’m seeing for each rising sign during this Mercury retrograde. I hope these insights have been helpful! Thank you again for supporting the channel.
