The Moon is void of course in Gemini today. Meanwhile the Sun/Neptune conjunction is still in full effect. Let’s take a few more angles on this aspect in today’s sky.
First let’s look at some mundane forecasting (meaning everyday kind of stuff):
* The feeling of overwhelm or weakness or tiredness
* Loss of a sense of purpose or motivation
* Flight from the body
* The veil between the conscious and unconscious, thinned
* Creative inspiration, visited by the muses
* Lucid dreams or vivid daydreaming
* Visionary thoughts, active imaginings
* Talk of victims, compassion for the weak and needy
* Gentle nudges from invisible presences, intuition and psychic receptivity
* Altered states, drugs, escapism
* Spiritual/mystical yearning or inspiration (the sudden desire to pray, fast, worship, etc)
Now let’s look at some particular images (thanks to some FB friends for a few of these!):
* The all seeing eye of horus
* The blue pharaoh and his high priestess
* The whispers of invisibles
* The medicine buddha
* The magic potion, the secret poison
* A skinny vegan flapping in the breeze
* A cooling breeze and sudden relief
* A blue sun dragon
* A fasting monk, drunk under cherry blossoms
* A child’s messy drawing suddenly speaks
* A contagious yawn, carries some secret truth
* A man talking to himself in his sleep
* A synchronicity fills in the blank
* Prayer without praying or beliefs
* The skeptic grows a unicorn horn out of his forehead while warning people about delusions
A short note. The Neptune/Sun conjunction also reminds us that anything, any old thing under the sun, can take up a transpersonal, transcendental, or non-ordinary voice. Though this is something we recognize as astrologers who essentially talk to the planets and stars every day, it’s good to remember that the planets were thought of by the ancient astrologers as each containing their own metals. The word “metal” literally means “to seek,” or “to mine,” and is inherently related to that which is hidden from plain view. To be clear, the old alchemical astrologers weren’t just talking about literal metals in the earth, but also the symbolic earthiness of the planetary energies in general. That the planetary energies are reflected in animals, eco-systems, weather, rocks, gems and minerals, plants and flowers, and anything else, reflects the idea that the planets each carry a metallic or earthy nature. The Neptune/Sun conjunction reminds us that with some patience and some mining work we are always capable of hearing the music or voices of the gods in just about anything. Under a Neptune/Sun conjunction its often as though some of these voices come rising to the surface effortlessly, like so much lucky gold suddenly appearing in our pans, and yet there is also the implied reminder that precious metals usually require careful mining.
This leads to one last point, which is also important. The Neptune/Sun conjunction also reminds us that we must be careful about leaky vessels and the egoization of altered states. When we see synchronicity all the time, or when we’re constantly hearing the spirits or planets in everything, when we have two thousand sacred objects and counting, when we do nothing but spin our wheels in the magical properties of planets and plants (or whatever else), we are potentially stripping Neptune of one of its most important gifts, which is the blessing of subtlety. What is a psychic moment of non-ordinary insight without regular old ordinary states? How can we mine for planetary metals in our everyday lives when the mine no longer requires us to go beneath the imaginal earth we’re living in? How can we talk to gems, crystals, fairies, gods, or winds and forest creatures, without the subtle and surprise nature of their visitations?
The Sun/Neptune combination can often create within us the desire to be as lit up and over the top about psychic receptivity as Joan Rivers in a new age book store. The all seeing eye of Horus becomes the all gabbing mouth of a singing bowl cliche. The sun sometimes just can’t shut up enough to preserve that essential quality of hiding and subtlety that Neptune requires. So for this we should also pay attention…as Heraclitus and all the great Taoist sages have commented, “Nature hides.” The sun isn’t very good at hiding; in fact it must die before it can hide each day. This little insight isn’t about martyrdom, either…though we might see more clearly the connection of the Sun/Neptune combination to martyrs, suicides, heroic sacrifices, saints, and all those weeping wounds emptying themselves out near the crystal section of the book store.
Prayer: Blue sunlight, like a dragon from the ocean at sunrise, dawning us awake to the subtle realms
