About this workshop
The ancient astrologers often wrote of “hidden” aspects – antiscia, contra-antiscia, and the like-engirding
signs, or signs with the same ruler. These aspects point towards secret relationships that certain signs have
with each other that don’t fall within the bounds of the traditional five Ptolemaic aspects.
In this lecture, Matthew will demonstrate that these secret relationships can consistently provide accurate,
helpful information about the natal chart that often aren’t indicated by the traditional five aspects alone. He
will begin with an analysis of the ancient sources around the hidden aspects to paint a picture of their
practical use. Then, he’ll introduce a system for working with these aspects on the basis of these source texts
and his own personal practice.
After that, using examples from the charts of public figures and his own clients, Matthew demonstrates how
the “hidden” aspects – antiscia, contra-antiscia, and like-engirding – go a long way in a comprehensive
analysis of a natal chart. Not only do they work as a powerful supplement to the traditional five Ptolemaic
aspects, they also account for events, circumstances, and lived experiences that the five traditional aspects
alone cannot address.
You will leave this workshop with an understanding of the historical basis for these techniques as they show
up in traditional astrological texts, as well as a fleshed-out and easy-to-follow method for analyzing these
aspects in your own natal chart, as well as the charts of friends, family, and clients.
About the speaker
classical philosophy and phenomenology. He also is also a dedicated practitioner of Qigong, Daoist internal
alchemy, and Baguazhang, and is a 24th generation disciple of the Daoist Dragon Gate Sect.
Matthew teaches several courses on astrology, meditation, and ritual magic, and offers natal chart readings,
elections, and horary readings. He co-runs The School of Heaven and Earth with his wife Crystal Woodling.
He teaches and practices astrology as a complete spiritual path, utilizing the natal chart alongside alchemy,
ritual magic, and daily meditation to bring healing and empowerment to his students and clients.
