About this workshop
Predictions of apocalyptic events and the concept of the world ending are nothing new and predate organized religion, with the oldest written story being the 5,000-year-old Epic of Gilgamesh. Prophecies and astrology go hand in hand, especially during times of social unrest, when people grapple with change and uncertainties. The need to know when things have the potential to happen seems to be a very basic human need that relates to our aversion to randomness.
This lecture will serve as a broad survey of famous and not-so-famous apocalyptical predictions that were made by astrologers throughout the ages in the hopes of gaining a greater understanding of this phenomenon and the role it plays in shaping the collective zeitgeist while also speaking of more profound and fundamental anxieties humans hold towards the unknown.
