Hey, everyone; this is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology. Happy Friday, everybody. I hope you guys are doing well. Today, we're going to take a look at the Full Moon in Capricorn, which is coming in over the weekend and is one of two full moons in Capricorn that we are going to be experiencing during this time of the year. So we're gonna get another one later on in July. It's pretty unique when you end up getting to full moons back to back in the same sign. So we have some Capricornian homework. Or you could say that we have some homework that's coming across the cancer Capricorn axis. And that's what we're going to look at today.
So before we get into it, as always, don't forget to like and subscribe, share your comments and reflections as you're listening to the talk, and you have them. We love hearing from you guys. You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on my website, nightlight astrology.com. Next week, I'll start promoting my July web monthly webinar, which is on Uranus into Gemini. But for now, no promotions for today because classes have all begun. It's not too late to sign up, of course, if you want to. And we just finished our 12th House webinars, so there's nothing at the moment to point you guys to. Okay, so I'm going to put up the real-time clock, and sorry, I'm getting myself situated here.
All right, here we go. So here is the full moon, and the full moon is in Capricorn. And it is obviously opposite the Sun in Cancer. So we're working across the Capricorn-Cancer axis. I think it's interesting to note that the ruler of this Full Moon is Saturn in Pisces, and Saturn in Pisces, along with Neptune in Pisces, are all configured by the whole sign trine. Eventually, during this lunar cycle, we're going to see Venus and Mercury going into the trines with Saturn and then the sun training Saturn. So we have a very earthy Full Moon in Capricorn. But it is ruled by a very watery Saturn configured to a bunch of planets and watery Cancer. So that's important to keep in mind and something that we'll look at today. I want to take you forward a little bit so that you can see what's happening. If we roll the real-time clock forward just a bit. We're going to take this and notice that the New Moon is in Cancer around July 5. Then we go forward, and here is the next full moon, also in Capricorn. So the full Moon in Capricorn comes at the 29th anaretic degree of Capricorn and opposes the Sun at the 29th anaretic degree of Cancer. The ruler, of course, once again is Saturn in Pisces. So, a full moon on Earth is also very watery. That's kind of an important detail to remember. We're going to be kind of repeating that a bunch today.
Now. Okay, so let me just put the Real Time Clock away. So, what can we gather from this Full Moon in Capricorn? I want to talk about the difference between Cancer and Capricorn because my sense is this is often helpful for the moon's work, but because we have to go back to back and we're going into cancer season. My sense is that the Capricorn cancer access is going to be at the center of much of the summer's astrology if you're in the northern hemisphere. Obviously, if you're in the southern hemisphere, this might be your winter.
Either way, the Capricorn cancer access from an archetypal perspective is one that we should take a moment to refresh ourselves on. So, Cancer was called the gateway of mankind, and Capricorn was called the gateway of the gods. These are old designations that were given to these two signs for very interesting reasons. You may have heard me say this before when I've talked about the summer solstice; for example, what's happening at the summer solstice is we're in the light half of the year where there is more light than darkness in the 24-hour day. But what's happening from the moment of the Summer Solstice forward all the way up until the fall equinox is the light has reached its apex and is now beginning to descend or decline down toward the Earth.
The arc of the Sun is dropping down in the sky every day. This descent from the highest point, starting to move down toward the Earth, in the sign of starts at the sign of Cancer, and that was why it was called the gateway of mankind because that descent of light downward into the Earth was associated with the entrance of spirit into matter as in the little particles of God entering the forms, the plants, the animals, the humans, the birds, the rocks, the planets, spirits entrance into matter was thought of as the creation of the universe or the cosmos, which is why Cancer is also the sign rising on the ancient theme of Monday, which is called the chart of the cosmos, the chart of the world.
So, Cancer is a sign that is associated with the formation and gestation of life from spirit into matter, which is why the moon was the traditional ruler of Cancer. And the planet that represented the material world of embodied forms. The material world of embodied forms reflects the eternal forms in the mind of God, which is why the moon is a reflective light.
So when we're looking at Cancer, we're looking at a very complex and beautiful sign. The moon is the ruler of the sign that rules the material world and the entrance of spirit into the material world; where if we train our eyes from an archetypal perspective, which is what we do with astrology, we can see the light of eternity in the people, places, things, situations, circumstances, which is why we say, oh, my gosh, during this or that transit, I saw or experienced this, and it matches so nicely with the archetypal patterns of the aspect of the planets and the signs and so forth. We're seeing the reflection of these divine patterns present here in our world. And that is very much the role that Cancer plays spiritually; how do we live a life in a body in a world that we're meant to get immersed in, just as surely as the spirit is going to get immersed in a body, while not losing touch with the ground of our being with eternity? Plato said that time is the moving image of eternity.
Astrology helps us experience time-bound, immersive experiences in a body without losing contact with our eternal nature and the eternal nature of all things. Cancer is, therefore, so much about how we stay connected. How do we stay connected to the mother, to the womb, to the source? Whether you conceptualize that as masculine or feminine absolutely doesn't matter. We're going way beyond that with the idea of what connects us to the source of life itself.
In Cancer, that sort of a great mother, you know, but however you want to think about it. How do we feel connected to that and safe while in a body where it's so easy to forget who we are? Excuse me, and it's so easy to feel vulnerable because once we enter a body, we're in a mortal framework. We're gonna die someday. And that places us in a really tentative spot. So, when you think about cancer season, one of the things that you're thinking about is getting in touch with what makes us feel safe, at home, and connected. How do we live a life that is devotional, whether that's to the people or in our lives? Or our jobs, our own bodies? How do we connect through sweetness through boundedness? How do we establish a healthy sense of safety that's not needy and fearful or overly worried or anxious? How do we recognize how we live a kind of romantic life that's able to see with appreciation and awe the patterns of eternity? It's about spiritually staying connected and feeling somehow at home as a spiritual being in a material body. And it's also about, you know, living a human life where one of the most important things is that we feel connected and nurtured and supported emotionally that we, that we be that we're here to live a relational existence, where the number one thing that most people say when they're on their deathbed is that, you know, they wish they would have spent more time with the ones they loved, they wish they would have spent more time you know, playing they wish they would have spent more time with less stressed out.
Cancer is always teaching us how to stay connected through sweetness in life to bond and how to create safety and connection. How to feel at home in the universe. Okay, so that's the Cancerian world. Just try to paint a brief picture for everyone because what we need is to understand that so that we can understand the juxtaposition with two full moons in Capricorn. So full moons and cap.
Now, by contrast, Capricorn was called the gateway of the gods. Although it is a feminine sign, feminine signs tend to be more about earthly participatory relational life, embodied life, and not transcendence. Capricorns are a little bit of an exception.
The reason for that is that at the winter solstice, the light from within the dark half of the year, where darkness dominates light, the light starts to return. From within the darkness, the light starts to grow. And so, Capricorn was called the gateway of the gods. The ruler was Saturn, and Mars was exalted in Capricorn. Because what starts happening in Capricorn is we start moving from an, let's just call it at its worst to kind of unconscious in measurement with the world. And we start thinking to ourselves, I need to return to spirit. I've gotten so deeply ensconced in the world that I need to start moving up and out.
Goats are great escape artists, and Capricorn, as the sign of Saturn, was associated with transcendence because Saturn has to do with all the limits of the world as well as what exists on the other side of the limit. That was why Saturn was associated with mysticism; Saturn was the planet of contemplatives. And mystics, who, at times, may leave the world behind and go out into the forest to meditate on what lies beyond the human world. And so Saturn was this boundary between the known and the unknown, the worldly and the otherworldly.
Capricorn is a sign that recognizes Oh, I'm enmeshed in the Earth. And I need to work on starting to transcend my enmeshment in the Earth. And it's going to take work and effort and incremental, determined, disciplined steps, like a goat slowly climbing to escape confinement, figuring out how to get out through steely, determined, cutting intelligent, disciplined, hard-working, practical, serious effort; I will transcend my limitations. So, the gateway of the gods is about the spirit releasing from the body, as in moksha or enlightenment. And even if we don't take that literally, we just take it sort of archetypally; there is an impulse in human beings that says that, like the Cancerian impulse, is so much about being in the world and feeling safe and at home minute.
Capricorn is when we recognize the limits of the world, and we have to work to transcend it through effort through determination. Now, the super materialistic version of Capricorn might be like, well, I want to work to transcend the limitations of my material environment, such as not having enough power or wealth, or prestige, or knowledge or mastery. And so I'm going to move upward along the hierarchy and try to accomplish as much as I can that moves me up the ladder, to escape base conditions that I don't like. Capricorns are incredibly good at staying in achievement mode and, practically, incrementally working to move up in some sort of hierarchy. Whether that's in a university or, you know, whatever.
Broadly speaking, on the metaphysical level or on the spiritual level, Capricorn also has to do with the carrying of the material cross, the burden of material existence, and the need to transcend various limitations that come with being mortal, that come with being limited in a body that comes with being limited by instincts and passions and like, like lower instincts that keep us in meshed and far from our Heavenly Nature. Nobody thinks about Capricorn that way because we tend to only think about Capricorn in terms of the corporate power push or something like that, which can be a part of Capricorn.
But whenever Capricorn full moons come through there, they're always in opposition to the Sun and Cancer. What's important to remember is that we are then holding the tension between the need to deepen our feeling of wholeness, to deepen our identification with the body and to feel safe in it, to feel happy, to feel pleasant, to feel connected and bonded in our earthly existence. It's spirit moving into the matter, and we're trying to make that more comfortable, lovely, and safe. Like we're nurturing that. in Capricorn. The opposite tension is pulling us, saying yes, but there are things you need to transcend. You have to be there. Are there things that are regressive or needy, or are there elements of this earthly world and your identification with it that you have to work to overcome?
Capricorn will get very ruthless and sort of seriously impractical about the need to work and persevere to overcome various things that are just natural limitations of being in a body and being in the world. And Capricorn will work its way out through the Earth through the actual world.
For example, if you are so identified with the body that you have a hard time, let's say, you emotionally eat, Capricorn will be like, I'm going to lay down the discipline, and you're going to stick to a very specific diet, and you're going to work out, and you're not going to let that take over. You know, and so it has this kind of no bullshit; here's what you have to do to overcome various things that can trap you or entangle you. Because there's this way in which the body and the world are very, they're very, like needy, and they'll make you forget, they'll make you know, you'll, you'll forget where you are, who you are, that you're immortal, that you're eternal, that you have a higher nature. It's funny because, you know, Capricorn Full Moons will then have us looking very intimately, like back and forth at this question of how do I feel safer and more at ease and more at home, while pushing us simultaneously in the opposite direction saying, How do I transcend? How do I get better? How do I move on, and those present very different needs?
And so we have to, in a sense, not only this full moon coming through this weekend, but the subsequent Full Moon in July, both will be asking us to look at our lives and to very honestly say, Where do I need to move deeper in through nurturance? Through care? Like, what are the living things that I need to attend to, including myself? How do I make my life sweeter? And how do I like to water my plant? And then there's going to be this contrasting voice? That's very No, sir. No bullshit that says Look, where do you need to work more seriously? Where do you need to exert effort and discipline in order to overcome things that you've gotten? You've gotten entangled with it, and you're going to need a kind of no-bullshit, serious, adult, mature approach to overcome something and rise up.
Now, these could appear in very mundane ways. And they could appear in very spiritual or psychological ways. But those are the tensions that I would watch for, not only with this full moon but the next one. I don't know if you guys are seeing this or not, but one of the things that is tripping me out is the video seems to be jumping a little bit. I don't know if you guys see that or not, but I think there might be an issue with my video feed today.
Anyway, um, another one last thing about Capricorn and Cancer is remember these full moons are ruled by Saturn in Pisces, which is a water sign that has an interest in themes that are very in Pisces very collective, collective emotional truths or realities. Saturn in Pisces will then have us thinking about the things we need to work toward right now that constitute needs or emotional realities that are bigger than our own.
One of the things that can happen with Cancer-Capricorn is we'll start working hard to overcome something or to achieve something, but it's being done with the opposition and Cancer because of some emotional need that we have. So the two can work together that way very nicely. I'm working to overcome various things so that I feel more at home or more safe in the world. I'm exerting discipline, practical efforts, and stick-to-itiveness. So that I feel less vulnerable and more secure, you know, emotionally, but with Saturn in Pisces, the concern may have to move from the immediate, the personal, the familiar to the collective, that there are other emotional realities, groups of people, more societal levels of emotional truth, that are coming in, through other people in our lives, through our work through our families, whatever the case may be that there's sort of like overarching emotional requirements that are presenting themselves right now. I'm trying to think of an example, like here's an example.
Let's say that you're feeling the need to overcome some personal issues through discipline and effort. You're going to start changing your lifestyle because you need to improve your health. And it's just going to require that you get kind of serious and disciplined about it. Okay, that could be a very Capricorn full moon.
One of the reasons that you may find yourself compelled to do so is that in your workplace, now remember a bigger emotional truth in the workplace. There is maybe a co-worker who is dealing with type two diabetes, and it's becoming a really serious ordeal for them. They're starting to share with you some of the breakthroughs in medical science, and they're kind of telling you about their process. And all of a sudden, it's making you realize, hey, I'm on the track right now, which could take me to maybe having that same problem. So I really better get serious. So it's like Saturn and Pisces can reinforce the work we're doing by making us aware that our struggle or our need to discipline ourselves and achieve something is connected to some larger emotional truth that's there in the collective. I think it's really interesting how that can play a role. There may be hints that come in that are telling you that this thing that you need to work on is actually sort of in the collective somehow right now.
All right, I'll leave it there. Those are my rambling thoughts. Didn't have my notes prepared today. I'm sort of winging it. The kids have camps. It's just as soon as School's out for the summer. It's like it all just gets really crazy. It's weird. Do you think that summer will be more relaxed? Okay, that's it for now. Let me know about the video. If you guys saw the lag or not, I would appreciate it so I can check out what's going on with my video and see if it's still going on. But yeah, hope you guys have a good one. Happy Full Moon this weekend. Tell me your thoughts. Add it to the conversation. We'd love to hear from you guys. And we'll see you again soon. Bye.
