The Moon is in Gemini this morning, applying to oppose Saturn in Sagittarius, then applying to sextile Uranus in Aries.
A bit of a broody or potentially argumentative or busy and slightly stressed looking afternoon today with the Moon opposing Saturn and both in mutable signs (air & fire no less). However, perhaps offsetting their opposition we should notice that their rulers, Mercury and Jupiter are moving into a trine with each other at the same time. To me this has the look of a potentially more stressful day being offset by some good luck or some positive influences that intervene to help us avoid a more difficult outcome. Jupiter is with the north node, which enhances his positive significations at the moment, and so it might be a matter of simply clearing up a simple oversight or untangling something before it becomes a full blown mess.
In particular I would watch for all of this to involve ideas, thoughts, communications, beliefs, agendas or different ideas about the future. Suggestions meant to support or impart wisdom or help may be unconsciously reflecting other’s personal fears, shortcomings, or lack of real understanding…and yet if we take things too personally everything comes undone rather quickly and more harm is done than was ever intended by anyone.
Today’s transit also brings to mind questions of ethics. We might find ourselves attempting to communicate something but not being sure if what we’re saying or attempting to share is ethical or if our intentions are in the right place. Is there anything more challenging than seeing both the good and the bad in anything we’re trying to do or say or share with someone else? Is there anything worse than someone who won’t trust the good in what we’re doing or saying but only sees the bad? And yet, it’s important that we check in with ourselves and make sure that we are walking our talk, even in the small and flippant little things we say or do each day. Sometimes the smallest things have the biggest (usually unintended) consequences, and sometimes the biggest things have the smallest consequences. And it’s often the case that the more serious we get about our spiritual lives, the more the scales are flipped just to remind us of these things…which keeps our hearts clear and our minds even more gentle and attentive.
As we’re building toward the full Moon I anticipate that Christmas will have a very full moon kind of feeling. In fact the Moon is full Christmas morning. As we all know, family time is sacred…even if our family’s are imperfect, or absent…even if by family we mean friends, or even if by family we mean the warmth and nuclear feeling we intentionally create in the absence of more traditional images of family. This being said, it’s likely that this Christmas opens something very deep and meaningful. The Moon will be in Cancer and it will engage both the Saturn/Neptune square as well as the Pluto/Uranus square in one day. The simplest thing I could say is that this time will likely engage us with our family, our ancestors, and our soul history in a deep, perhaps difficult, but ultimately positive way. I say “positive” only because I believe that any experiences can be blessings if we choose to work through them consciously, with tenderness, patience, affection, and a good sense of humor. If we can be honest without defensiveness, generous and forgiving, then it’s always my feeling that even the most difficult looking planetary experiences become invaluable parts of our spiritual life.
All this being said, have a Merry Christmas everyone, and if you don’t celebrate, then happy holidays and solstice!
Prayer: Led by light of a star sweetly gleaming…
