Hey, everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology. Today we're going to take a look at Venus making a sextile to Saturn. Now, I don't always cover fast-moving sextiles like this on my channel, but Venus is in Capricorn, which is one of Saturn's signs, and Saturn is in Pisces, which is Venus's exaltation. So we have a form of mutual reception here that, alongside the harmonious nature of a sextile, creates a nice little exchange between these two planets, like a gift-giving session.
So today, we're going to look at some of the most beautiful things that happen when Venus and Saturn combine harmoniously in this aspect. That's the agenda for today. Remember to like and subscribe! Thank you to everyone who has been subscribing to our channel. We noticed that a lot of people watch who haven’t subscribed. It’s free to do so, and it really helps us grow our channel and community. So, we thank you for that.
Transcripts of any of these daily talks can be found on my website, NightlightAstrology.com. There are two things that we are promoting today. One is that this evening, if you go over to the website, you can find my webinar on Pluto’s transit into Aquarius. You can join us tonight, if you’d like, by going to the Events page, clicking on "Live Talks," and then you'll see "Pluto into Aquarius: AI, Aliens, and New World Orders," happening from 7 to 9 PM Eastern Time.
If you can’t attend live, don’t worry! When you register, you’ll get the link to attend live, and if you can’t make it, we provide the recording afterward so you can download it and watch at your convenience.
The other thing is that we’re in the midst of my annual Kickstarter campaign with a goal of reaching 19,137 backers for our channel before January 1. A big thanks to everyone who has already donated this week. We really appreciate it. We’re off to a good start, and I’m going to briefly show you the Kickstarter page. You can find the link to donate and support this channel in the comments section or in the description of this video, or you can go over to the website, NightlightAstrology.com, and click on the "Kickstarter 2025" tab. When you come over there, you’ll see a little green button that says "Back This Project." When you click it, you can select a variety of rewards, like a calendar and the astrology of 2025 talk, horoscopes for all 12 signs, exclusive access to the chapter-by-chapter release of my book before it comes out in print, and much more. We also offer discounts of over 50% on all our online programs when bundled together.
After the talk, there’s a little informational video I’ve tagged on to tell you more about the different reward options, in case you have questions.
One of the things I like to do during the Kickstarter campaign is share something that I believe is of great value and goes into the work I do every single day. One of the most valuable things I offer in my daily content is my deep research into the history of astrology. I’ve spent an enormous amount of time studying astrological history—reading thousands of pages about the different schools, forms, and practices. I’m familiar with the ancient tradition and have seen how it’s evolved over time.
I teach Hellenistic astrology, but I also have experience with modern depth psychology, archetypal psychology, and evolutionary astrology. So when you listen to my content, you’re hearing someone who is always learning. I’ve always been a student, and I will continue to be. When I write my talks, I’m pulling from ancient and modern texts, and I draw inspiration from diverse sources, including the Taoist tradition, the Hermetic tradition, the Platonists, the yogis, and the Buddhists.
If you value that kind of deep research and studious approach to astrology, then supporting this channel means supporting someone who is committed to that kind of learning. I’m proud to bring you content that reflects this dedication.
Thank you so much for supporting us. We really appreciate it. Now, let’s get into our talk for the day on the exchange between Venus and Saturn.
We have Venus and Saturn in an interesting form of mutual reception. Let me highlight it for you. We’re looking at November 21. The sextile will be active today and tomorrow. If I speed this up by a day, you’ll see that Venus, by tomorrow morning, is passing over the exact sextile to Saturn in Pisces at 12 degrees. If you have planets around 12 degrees of the cardinal or mutable signs, you may feel this transit more strongly, particularly if your planets are around these degrees in Capricorn and Pisces.
Here, we have Venus in Saturn’s sign and Saturn in Venus’s exaltation. To make this clearer, I’ll show you my bi-wheel chart. Saturn is right on the cusp of Venus’s bound, although it’s just outside of it. Interestingly, both Saturn and Venus are also in Jupiter’s bound. Saturn is in the domicile of Jupiter, and Venus is in the bound of Jupiter. These little undercurrents between them can offer more layers of interpretation, which is always valuable when considering planetary combinations. Astrology is like making a soup—you want to consider all the ingredients that contribute to the overall flavor.
The most important thing to focus on here is that Venus is in Saturn’s sign and Saturn is in Venus’s exaltation. So, what do we make of that? Sextiles create harmony and bring things together meaningfully, much like when you’re crafting an outfit and making sure the textures, colors, and accessories all go together. Similarly, when you arrange something in music, design, or even interior decorating, there’s a harmony in bringing everything into balance.
This sense of harmony is the core meaning of the sextile, which is naturally connected to Venus. Venus is about that kind of cosmetic arrangement, bringing things together in a way that is pleasing. The word “cosmos” shares the same root as “cosmetic,” both referring to a well-arranged whole. This ancient view is encapsulated in the term *Harmonia*, which reflects not just orderliness, but beauty.
When Venus and Saturn come together harmoniously, they create something that is not just structured, but also beautiful. Saturn’s ability to create structure and order pairs well with Venus’s gift for making that structure aesthetically pleasing. Venus is always seeking harmony, so when Saturn’s discipline is in play, there’s a real opportunity to craft something that is both beautiful and intelligently designed.
Now, let’s look at five things that Venus and Saturn create when they come together harmoniously. You can apply this understanding to any Venus-Saturn dynamic in your life, whether it’s a square, opposition, or conjunction. When Venus and Saturn are working well together, these qualities tend to emerge. Here are the five things to look for:
1. **Devotion**: Did you know that the word *devote* means to dedicate oneself by vow? It comes from the Latin *devotus*, meaning to dedicate by vow or sacrifice. This concept captures a sense of love and dedication combined with maturity and exclusivity. Saturn, being a planet of boundaries, creates a sense of exclusivity, which is key to the feeling of devotion.
When Venus and Saturn come together, you have love, beauty, and exclusivity all wrapped up in a sense of devotion. When you are devoted to something or someone, you exclude other distractions to focus on what truly matters. This kind of devotion can be seen in the work of a craftsman, artist, or anyone who pours their heart into a craft. In relationships, devotion means making a commitment, often to the exclusion of other things, because you believe deeply in the value of that bond.
I personally resonate with this idea of devotion. I have the Moon in Capricorn, and this placement often symbolizes a disciplined, devoted focus on nurturing things. It’s this kind of devotion that fuels my work here, producing daily content with dedication over the years. It’s not just about consistency; it’s about putting care and attention into something meaningful.
When Saturn and Venus work together, you often see this deep commitment—whether it’s to a person, a craft, or a cause. Devotion is powerful because it brings depth and meaning to everything you do. Without devotion, life can feel scattered, with no real depth or sense of purpose.
So, on that note, let's see about the next piece on my list here. Devotion is one of the best qualities of Venus, Saturn. If you don't have one of these aspects, something nice about these contacts is that they may amplify the need for you to focus more on the things you love. Creating a container for yourself where you can be more present and fully committed to the things that bring you joy, happiness—art, beauty, love, and friendship.
By the way, that’s also my way of trying to help people dealing with Moon-Saturn or Venus-Saturn dynamics in their charts. One of the most positive potentials of working with these aspects is to find things that you are devoted to. For example, earlier in my life, the Moon in Capricorn was a very difficult placement for me. When I started developing practices that I could pour my heart and soul into—something I could be deeply committed to—that's when the placement became much easier to handle. It's never easy, though. Moon-Saturn or Venus-Saturn will always carry certain kinds of tension because there’s always the potential for Saturn to become rigid.
For example, this is part of why my own evolution has been about finding the right practices that don't become too strict or too tight, to the point where Venus gets squashed. You always have to be attentive to this, or that the lunar part doesn’t get squashed in a Saturn-Moon contact. So, anyway, the next one on my list is development or maturation. I use the word "maturation" because "mature" sometimes has this almost hierarchical quality, like you're getting better, but I want to focus on the etymology of the word "mature" today.
It actually comes from the Latin word *maturare*, meaning “to ripen.” It's related to the idea of maturation being like when a tree bears its fruit. I find that fascinating because, rather than thinking of Venus-Saturn as simply about getting better or maturing, we can think of it in a more nuanced way. When an apple grows on a tree, you don’t just say, "Yes, the tree has reached its peak potential." When you see a tree bearing its fruit, you admire the fruit, the ripeness, the beauty of it. The fruit doesn’t just “improve”; it ripens, and that process is beautiful in its own right.
I think this is a good analogy for Venus-Saturn: it's about something beautiful coming to full bloom after time spent growing, developing, and cultivating. It's like a musician who devotes themselves to their instrument, focusing their attention and energy on it. Eventually, the music will flow out of them, and that’s Venus-Saturn in action. When you see a tree heavy with apples, that’s a manifestation of maturation—a slow, steady process leading to something rich and full.
The idea behind Venus-Saturn in a sextile or exchange of signs is that you'll see a beautiful blossoming—something that's not just improving, but ripening into something special. It’s a different way of thinking about maturity than just getting better.
Next is refinement. I really like this word. To refine means to bring something to a purer state, to reduce it to a simple, delicate, and fine state. It can also mean to perfect something or make it more elegant. When Venus and Saturn come together, it’s like creating a container around something beautiful with Saturn so that what’s inside can be perfected and made more delicate and pure. It’s like crystallizing it, turning it into something rare and special.
This is one of the things we forget about the aging process. On one level, our bodies are deteriorating, but if we live a soulful life, we are refining ourselves spiritually and emotionally. That refinement, over time, creates a kind of soul beauty. People in their 70s or 80s might not have the same physical beauty they had when they were younger, but the beauty they radiate comes from a soul that has been shaped by life—by joy, grief, laughter, and experience. That’s a refined beauty, and it’s very much a Venus-Saturn concept.
We often emphasize staying young or reversing aging, but true soul beauty requires that kind of slow, careful shaping and refining. We’re reduced, boiled down over time, but what we become through that process is something rare and valuable.
Next on my list is adornment. Venus and Saturn have a way of adorning. The word “adorn” means to decorate, embellish, or to order and arrange. There’s a balance between something functional and something extra, a sense that what’s necessary can also be beautiful when it’s decorated or embellished. Think about accessories—like a watch or a hat. While those things may not be strictly necessary, they can add beauty and bring out other elements of your style.
But there’s a fine line. If your accessories are too loud, they can overwhelm everything else and seem excessive. Venus-Saturn works best when these embellishments serve a purpose, enhancing what’s already there without dominating. It's not about excess, but about thoughtful decoration. This principle can be seen in art and design, too—whether it’s the way a plate is garnished or the way an outfit is styled.
Adornments should bring out the essence of what they’re accentuating, not take over or distract. The universe itself is adorned—beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and capable of satisfying our senses. Venus is all about this adornment, this beauty. There’s a saying (and I know it might sound a little outdated, depending on your perspective) that marriage is a balance between Venus and Mars—the archetypes of the masculine and feminine. In relationships, the other person can act as an adornment for who we are, bringing out our essence, whether through love, attention, or simply by seeing us.
Venus, in this way, is the feature of life that makes it not just structured but beautiful. Life isn’t only about being ordered, it’s also about being aesthetically pleasing, satisfying to the senses. Venus is about bringing that beauty into being.
The fifth and final concept on my list is sophistication. The word comes from a Latin root meaning worldly, wise, discriminating, and cultured. To develop a sense of style—whether as a writer, musician, or astrologer—you need to have a refined, nonjudgmental sense of what you like and don’t like. Venus-Saturn works through this discernment, where our sense of beauty is often shaped by what we find repulsive or unattractive.
Sophistication doesn’t look the same for everyone—it’s personal. But there’s something about narrowing our tastes, refining them, and being exclusive about what we love and enjoy. This is important because, for most of us, refining our tastes, our relationships, and even our sense of career and passion is essential for a fulfilling life. When you do this work, you develop a kind of sophistication that others recognize. They see you as someone with a refined sense of taste—someone who knows what they like and what they don’t.
However, this process can also have a shadow side, especially when Venus-Saturn becomes too elitist or judgmental. We see this in scenes like the indie music world, where there’s sometimes a rigidity in rejecting anything mainstream as inferior. But there’s a danger in thinking that our tastes or refinement make us superior. If we believe that our sophistication gives us the right to look down on others, we miss the point of the process. Venus-Saturn is about refinement, not about making us better than anyone else.
To wrap up, I hope this exploration of Venus and Saturn gives you a richer way of working with these archetypes. Whether through transits or retrogrades, Venus and Saturn will interact with your chart in various ways throughout your life. Understanding these archetypes and their manifestations helps you navigate those moments when your sense of taste or beauty might make you feel superior.
Personally, astrology has helped me become less of an asshole. I mean, I’m still an asshole, but I’m less of one. So, thank you all for supporting this channel. We couldn’t do this work without people like you, and I’m deeply grateful. Please stick around after I sign off to learn more about our Kickstarter rewards. See you tomorrow!
