The Moon in Virgo is trining the Sun in Capricorn this morning before it turns void of course later this morning.
As Mercury and Venus are still traveling side by side in sextile to Saturn in Sagittarius, it’s a good day to look again at the power of ideas and words. Another glowing image from the media that reflects our current astrology is the passing of long time ESPN news anchor, Stuart Scott. Stuart was an African American sports news anchor who brought an urban, hip-hop and popular culture vibe to the sportscasters desk. Famous for phrases like, “he’s as cool as the cool side of the pillow,” and “boo-yah,” Stuart was someone who brought the street, brought the youth, and brought racial diversity into sportscasting. He gave millions of athletes an image of corporate media success without the sacrifice of their own voice, without the need to take on an ultra divisive corporate mentality, and because of his work many former athletes have become sports anchors whose leading gift is not only their professional analysis but also their personality.
Stuart Scott’s death is reflected by the entrance of Saturn into Sagittarius, as countless sports fans (often accused of being ‘block heads’) are talking openly about the importance of free thought, free expression, and soulful personality within the corporate work environment.
As someone whose been a life long sports fan, I see the dedication to sports and sports culture of all kinds (complete with all its fuckups) as one of the most important planetary religions of Mars. Not only did Stuart Scott make an enormous amount of people feel welcome and free to belong to the global/mars cult, but he also encouraged people to be intelligent fans of the games. He was a beacon of enthusiasm, kindness, and high minded intelligence within the arena. A high vibing priest in the temples of Mars.
Of course the Charlie Hedbo attacks reflect a similar dynamic: death, the freedom of the press, and the battle between rigid, fundamentalist forces and progressive ideas. These themes aren’t going anywhere anytime soon as Saturn will be transiting the sign of Sagittarius for nearly the next three years.
For the next few days Mercury and Venus will be traveling together…here are some further themes and images to watch for:
* A beautiful idea falls on deaf ears
* The ideas of outsiders or marginalized groups
* The love of humanity, the dislike of people
* A young child in a big city for the first time…asks the question, “Are there too many people?”
* Controversial ideas that offend ingrained beliefs
* Upon entering a beautiful library, the books seem to say, “You’ll never read us all.”
* A beautiful piece of technology, a beautiful invention, a well designed presentation
Prayer: new thoughts meet old thoughts…new voices for new times…help us to be as cool as the cool side of the pillow. (godspeed Stuart Scott)
