Stop Hating Essential Dignities: What They Are, Why They’re Real, and What They’re Used For!
In this talk, I will explore the philosophical origins of essential dignities, as well as concepts like malefic/benefic planets, and good/bad houses, and I will respond to many modern misconceptions and criticisms of this part of the language of ancient astrology. We will discuss what essential dignities are (like rulership, exile, exaltation, and fall), why they are real, and how they should be sensitively used within the framework of astrological readings. Equipped with a deeper understanding of what dignities are and how they work, it is my hope that students will leave this talk with a deeper understanding and appreciation for this facet of the astrological language, as well as the beauty and usefulness of all planetary placements in the birth chart.
