What to watch for:
* This first quarter Moon is all about Jupiter as both the Sun and the Moon are in Jupiter’s signs. This would point to our largest or most ambitious and optimistic hopes, dreams, goals, or plans for the future being front and center right now, but what’s interesting is the simultaneous presence of Saturn, who tends to hold things back, slow t hings down, temper expectations, throw up roadblocks, and so forth.
* In the I Ching, hexagram #9 is called “gentle restraint,” and I drew it this morning while meditating on this month’s 1st quarter Moon signature. The hexagram illustrates the wisdom of tending to many small things, over a long period of time, eventually leads to “big” things or results. A picture frequently associated with this hexagram is that of storm clouds gathering but no rain. This first quarter’s emphasis on Jupiter with a big dose of Saturn is similar. We should wait and watch and listen right now for the guidance of the divine as larger forces are gathering together and organizing themselves. In the meantime we should be content to tend to the small things and restrain ourselves from trying to force the large.
* How do we respond to small setbacks or challenges? They are often indicative of our inner character. When we’re pushed to the edge of something being ruined or not working out, often our true feelings emerge and we are profoundly honest. The restraint of Saturn at this Jupiterian first quarter Moon may also bring forth our sincere feelings or position about someone or something, and from our reaction, or the reactions of people around us, we will gain insight into the most likely outcomes in the future. Coming to the edge of something we wish or hope for but being held back, the inner truth of something is often revealed. Patience and creative problem solving, acceptance and trust, compromise and gracefulness, these are the responses to being restrained or held back that augur a positive outcome in the end.
Prayer: Help us to see every small setback as an opportunity for our sincerity to be revealed.
