In just a few short hours the dark Moon will enter the bull, the house of her exaltation. The new moon is tomorrow.
Here’s what to watch for today:
* As the Moon enters Taurus she will immediately apply to Venus. Having spent a fierce few days in Aries this transition may come as a relief. You might notice a change in mood or atmosphere as Venus takes the driver’s seat for the next few days and we enter a new lunar cycle.
* The solid sign of Taurus alongside of the new moon and the dry/cold qualities of earth point to several themes: faithfulness, consistency, harmonious submission, trust, abundance, and dedication. As the new moon cycle begins, we may find ourselves pondering the difference between constancy on the one hand and rigidity on the other. The classic “passion vs. reason” dilemma may be at play in the next few days as four planets in the Venus ruled sign of the Bull tone the beginning of our new cycle. After all, Taurus is both faithful and enduring but also stubbornly attached to the objects of its desire. Taurus is both enduring and steadfast but also inflexible and potentially driven by its appetites.
There are times in life when it makes sense to train our emotions or desires to a higher standard. On the other hand there are times when reason can become inflexible and rigid, to the detriment of our emotions. Everybody knows this, but it bears repeating as we head into a cycle that includes a Mercury retrograde in the sign of Venus. The mind and the emotions, reason and desire, are cooperating right now to work something out or to teach us or guide us through something. Perhaps the most important thing we can do for ourselves is to make sure we have both of these elements in right relationship with each other internally. For example, do our emotions have appropriate faithfulness or respect for our higher values, or are they attempting to corrupt or persuade our higher values to serve their own fickle needs in the moment? On the other side, do our values/reasonableness have enough flexibility to remain sensitive and respectful of our changing needs and desires…to judge fairly and sensitively in each moment as each changing desire presents itself?
In other words, do we trust the intelligence of our emotions and do our emotions trust the guiding faculty of our reason? Though there are many other themes present in the sky right now, I see this as one of the major psychological themes coming into our new cycle.
Prayer: May the intelligence or our emotions and desires inform our minds, and may the guiding principles of our minds judge fairly among the presenting needs of our emotions.
