Hey everyone, this is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology, and today we are going to take a look at Venus's upcoming square to Pluto, which is especially interesting considering that Venus is heading into that square coming off from the south node of the moon.
That's another rare occurrence to have Venus cross the south node of the moon as its ruler and then head into a dynamic aspect with Pluto. There's some really interesting historical significance to one of the previous periods of time in which this happened. We're going to look at today; I think there are some interesting secret synchronicities you might find useful when it comes to interpreting the meaning of this transit in your experience this week, but also Venus-Pluto is worth reviewing anytime it comes up because it's a big transit.
So, hopefully, we'll accomplish a few of those things today. And as always, before we get into it, don't forget to like and subscribe share your comments and reflections. Especially if you have a big experience this week with any either of these transits, we've been talking about Venus in the south node or Venus and Pluto; feel free to share your stories using the hashtag grabbed or emailing your story to us grabbed at nightlight astrology.com You can always find a transcript of any of my daily talks on the website, which is also nightlight astrology.com.
Right now, as you guys know, we are in the midst of our annual Kickstarter campaign; we have a goal of 1777 backers supporting this channel with a donation. Any donation whatsoever is deeply appreciated. We're trying to get to this goal before New Year's Eve. You can find the link to the Kickstarter in the comments section pinned to the top of this post or in the description of this video.
When you pop over there, you can choose a variety of rewards when you support this channel in the year ahead. I've said this a few times already. But we really appreciate your support. We literally can't do this channel in the way that we do it without your support because the Kickstarter supports our staff, which is a necessary component at this part for the work to get done every day. It's a big process at this point to do five days a week of creative content. So you're supporting a staff, you're supporting our need-based tuition model and flexible pricing, and you are supporting the establishment of our affordable reading service, which we will be launching in 2020.
Also, this is part of how I earn my living; you support me, and my family us crazy astrology nuts; astrology and herbs are our jam. And we get to do it because you guys support our work. So we appreciate it very much.
I'd like to take the time to tell you about myself as an astrologer, especially if you haven't been around the channel for a long time. These are my values as an astrologer. In other words, this is what I hope my content accomplishes five days a week year-round. And I hope that you're receiving the gift of these intentions that we put into not just myself but also our team puts into the content that we create.
Number one, the first goal is to create astrological content that helps you practically gives you a good sense of what's going on and that it's practically useful in your everyday life. And also to create content that heals so that you have some way of reflecting upon your experience that makes difficult experiences a little bit easier because where there's understanding, there's freedom, and where there's freedom, there's a way in which we can heal ourselves. So that's the first intention.
The second intention behind this channel is to create content that furthers your spiritual development. I really think that astrology is compatible with so many different spiritual traditions, religious traditions, spiritual but not religious, agnostic, atheist; I really don't think it matters where you're coming from. Astrology is a beautiful language that enhances our lives and helps us feel like we are growing as human beings. That is the core intention of this channel. So I hope you get that from this.
Number three is to create content that reconnects people to wonder, magic, and appreciation for life and experience itself. Love, curiosity, and prayerfulness. In a sense, I feel like walking in everyday life with astrology in it is akin to a kind of moving meditation. I call it prayerfulness, mindfulness, or whatever you want to call it; it is fine by me. But I like doing this content. For me, the effect that it gives me in my own life is a feeling that there is a kind of seamless, fluid meditative journey that's unfolding, and the astrology helps me understand where it's going, and it offers me insight and reflection into what's happened. So, I hope that it is connecting you to a magical universe because the universe is magical and it is wonderful, and it is beautiful. And it's mysterious, and there's a lot to stay curious about, too.
So, I hope that the content achieves that goal. I hope that we create content that's entertaining and that gives you some good laughs, even if they come at my expense because I'm just the full. I hope that it's interesting. I hope that it's teaching you something about astrology. I hope people come here and they learn astrology.
Number five, I hope that this channel, all in all, the content we create, gives an imaginative appreciation for omens, signs, and symbols in everyday life. The truth is that it's only very recently that so much of the human population has forgotten or downplayed the significance of omens, whether they're in dreams or in nature, or in the sky or in the tarot.
Living a life with omens, signs, and symbols that help us to reflect upon experience, understand it, anticipate it, make choices, and reflect on our choices that have been so essential to human experience for 1000s and 1000s of years. And I believe that this channel and other channels out there, people who are trying to promote the sort of good news of astrology in general, are people who believe that life is lived a little bit, life is a little bit more magical and interesting when we keep omens and signs is a basic everyday part of life.
So these are the things I hope it accomplishes. This is the intention behind everything we do here. If you value it, if you enjoy it, if you get something good out of it. We have 163 backers so far. We need 1614 more by New Year's Eve to meet our goal for the year and to support all the good projects we're doing in the year ahead. So, I hope you'll take a moment to consider pitching in, and thank you so much for all those who already have. We really deeply appreciate your support. With that, I hope that you will enjoy today's talk on Venus squaring Pluto coming off from the south node.
Okay, well, on that note, we will now move into our topic of the day, which is Venus's upcoming square to Pluto. Now, the reason that we are getting into this right now even though it's not coming until December 3, which is Sunday, and let me just put this up so you can see. So it's December 3, that Venus will square Pluto, Venus, and Libra square to Pluto in Capricorn early in the morning of Sunday, December 3.
But we're looking at this earlier in the week because we have the astrology of December ahead of us. We have horoscopes for descent for the month of December ahead of us. I wanted to make sure that we took some time to reflect on this before it comes because otherwise, it might get under-undertreated, given the rest of the content that we have lined up for this week.
I spent a lot of time in yesterday's video to start off the week talking about why it is so special and what it means when the south node is in Libra. How special it is when Venus, ruler of the south node in Libra, comes in conjoins it; how rare it is some of the previous periods that happened within and some tracking advice and stuff like that.
Today, what I want to do is kind of double down and be like, it's even more rare when Venus comes out of that configuration with the South Node and immediately hits an aspect with Pluto, a square with Pluto in this case.
There was only one other historical period that I could find in my lifetime where there was a bang, bang example of Venus crossing the South Node in Libra and then having immediate engagement with Pluto, and I'm going to take you to that period in a minute. But first, I just want to talk very briefly about what The Venus-Pluto archetype is about, and in order to do that, I'm going to share with you a few little excerpts that I highlighted from Renn Butler's cookbook on archetypal astrology, specifically the Venus-Pluto section and I just want to highlight a few things he says and riff off from them.
You guys know I love Renn's work and his book, by the way. It's called The Archetypal Universe, and it is it is one of my favorite desk references. You guys know who watch my channel. Probably once or twice a month, I pull this out and do some work with it.
So Venus-Pluto deep and intense passions, renewing and regenerating forces in relationships, the power of love, and the drive to unite the interplay of Beauty and the Beast.
Okay, so first of all, a few things that I want to riff off from there. Remember that we said that when Venus is with the south node of the Moon in Libra, that there is a kind of otherworldly insight into Libran or Venusian matters that crystallizes, and sometimes it happens through painful encounters with the unconscious or the ways in which our desires have run amok, or there might be some painful shedding of skin or releasing or purging of the new shin or Libra and things when Venus crosses the south node of the moon. But generally, it also comes with a kind of crystallized spiritual insight or wisdom that you take forward.
Well, what is Venus Pluto doing? Right after that? It's amplifying the exact same themes, deepening, renewing, and regenerating forces in relationships. That might as well be, you know, that it's like a synonym for the thematic phrasing that we use for Venus in the south node.
The power of love and the drive to unite the interplay of Beauty and the Beast. What I like about that last part with the interplay of Beauty and the Beast is the contrast between light and dark when it comes to Venusian or Libran things, which is exactly what the south node will highlight. What does pleasure, beauty, and harmony look like in the most ideal sense to us, and is our life conforming to that high standard of beauty and ease and harmony? And if not, what are we doing that needs to be removed or changed or shifted or purged? Venus-Pluto will do some of the exact same things. It will be transformative, renewing purgative healing; it will put us in touch with where we're falling short of some very beautiful, ideal, or standard.
Maybe because of rigidity, or maybe because of overindulgence, or maybe because of repression, whatever the case might be. The Venus-Pluto theme is about the transformation of Venus by getting in touch with the shadows of what our desires are or what's keeping us from the highest possible beauty or the highest possible love. Venus-Pluto will do some of the exact same things.
The Beauty and the Beast part is, in other words, the light and dark side of what we find beautiful or attractive, and there's a crystallizing kind of spiritual insight or wisdom around that right now with Venus in the south node. A tendency toward obsessive attractions, feelings of jealousy and possessiveness, passive aggression or manipulation, a love of power.
Primal feelings of love and attraction, profound relationship understanding, renewing and regenerating forces in relationships, a big and deep heart, and embracing of the healing power of love, emotional and social healing. You see how so much of this is pointing toward a kind of refining, purifying fire in Pluto.
It's touching on Venus in Libra, that can bring a refinement and a deepening and a healing, a purging, a releasing, a cleansing and purifying of everything related to pleasure, everything related to relationships have everything related to our social life, or some kind of picture that we have in our head in the Platonic space up high that says, This is what beauty looks like. This is what you know, perfect, is perfectly symmetrical, perfectly aligned, and it's up here in my head, I can see it. Well, but it's totally unrealistic, unforgiving, and too rigid. Venus encounters Pluto and Capricorn, and Venus, in a sense, crumbles and says, I can't live up to that, and that's a good thing that I can't because it's really releasing and relieving that I don't have to keep aiming for something that high and impossible.
On the other hand, Venus can't reach that high level of happiness because you have things in your diet or people in your life or elements of toxicity that need to be removed so that a relationship can be perfected or happiness or beauty or harmony, or ease can be achieved, and Pluto will put you in touch with it just as surely as Venus crossing the south node will.
Isn't it interesting that we're getting a doubling down on this kind of Venusian transformation so close together? That's what I wanted to draw on from Renn's book.
Now, let's turn our attention to this interesting period. I mean, again, I just think this is fascinating. If you go back in time, there's an interesting south node Venus-Pluto series of dates.
I'm gonna go back in time to September and October of 1986. This is one of the previous dates that I mentioned yesterday in terms of the South Node being in the sign of Libra, and in fact, I'm going to go forward just a little bit. We'll see here that the south node of the Moon moves into Libra; I'm using the mean node measurement in August 1986. So then what happens is see how Venus is coming around.
Now Venus is in Libra in the late summer of 1986. Moving forward, here Venus comes into the conjunction with the south node of the moon August 30 and 31st of 1986. Then what happens? You see how it's going to encounter Pluto just after in the sign of Scorpio; a very similar number of degrees after it passes the south node of the moon compared to a south node of the moon right now and very similar in terms of the space between Venus crossing the south node, and Pluto.
This was the most recent one I could find where there was such a close interaction with Pluto just after Venus in Libra crossed the south node of the moon. I found another one in 1930. But I couldn't locate some synchronistic material in pop culture art Venusian things that made a lot of sense, and it was sort of different setup, too, but anyway.
So Venus crosses the south node of the moon in September, and goes through the conjunction to Pluto. See that in Scorpio just afterward by mid-September, and then what's interesting is that Venus is going to slow down in October in retrograde, and then it comes back; look at this. It's going to come all the way back through the conjunction with Pluto after crossing the south node of the moon, so it does quite a dance in the autumn of 1986.
Now, I will tell you right away that I don't think these are direct or equal. This is probably a period of time in which the south the crossing of the south node and the subsequent encounter with Pluto is a lot more intense than the one we're dealing with right now. Because Venus conjoins, Pluto goes retrograde co-present with Pluto while Venus is debilitated and goes back through the conjunction in its retrograde and so forth.
So it's a very long, drawn out example by comparison because, you know, we're getting the crossing of the south node of a subsequent square to Pluto, and it's pretty quick, and it moves on. So don't think that what we're living through right now is going to be as powerful as this. But this is a good example of how big of a deal it is that Venus crosses the south node and encounters Pluto right away and does some work with Pluto that sort of doubles down on the Venus and South Node in Libra themes. So what happens during this period, September to November of 1986?
Well, in October of 1986, this is really interesting. I'm just going to read you October of 86, two months after Mercury's final live performance with Queen, the British newspaper News of the World and the Sun reported that Freddie Mercury had his blood tested for HIV-AIDS at a Harley Street Clinic. But he was quoted as saying he was perfectly fit and healthy. But, around that time, Mercury said in an interview that he had tested negative for HIV, and then it would be found out later that he was positive. So this is really interesting, and I'm using this not as any kind of personal commentary on these individuals, you know, like judging them or saying anything about their lives or they're, you know, individual souls destiny. I'm using Venusian people, artists, right, or women, or, you know, art and culture is often the domain of Venus.
So, look at what's happening, a major shift in our cultural awareness of sexuality around HIV-AIDS and in an artist's very famous artists life. This is a huge moment in terms of the kind of collective encounter with, you know, a deeper and more spiritual understanding of things like art, sexual identity, HIV-AIDS, which, of course, was becoming more like we were becoming more aware of it in the 80s. So we know what it was and how it worked, and it was this total. There were a lot of really sad elements to the way that it was handled, and so on and so forth.
I'm not qualified to say a lot about it because I'm not a historian of this era or anything like that. But that's a really important moment because it shows how big of a deal it is that we have Venus crossing the south node, the moon offering as a sort of crystallization of wisdom and insight, and then this Plutonian encounter right afterward.
October of 1986 is just another kind of a different flavor here. Phantom of the Opera debuted in it; where was it, London? It was in, it was in. It was in the UK somewhere. I remember correctly. But anyway, The Phantom of the Opera is really interesting. There are so many, so many things that can be said about that piece of art and how iconic and how defining of an era it was and how long it lasted, and isn't it interesting that it just, it just closed? It's the very long life of being performed on Broadway, as the node is coming back around to the same sign this past year. I find that really fascinating.
One of the things that's interesting about Phantom of the Opera is that you get there. It's a very otherworldly piece of art, and it speaks to the theme of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty and the Beast as a Venus-Pluto kind of theme that was in the air that fall. Isn't that fascinating? Another thing that happened in October of 1986 was The Oprah Winfrey Show launched, and there's an example of someone who would become something of I'm describing her this way. I'm not saying you have to agree with my description, right? But I would describe her as a pop culture icon for women, someone who shows what kind of powerful, spiritual, instructive, encouraging role that like a powerful woman can play. Interesting. She was born with Venus cazimi, by the way.
But isn't it interesting that during that time, this person who had become in many ways a spiritual leader within popular culture for women, her book club, for artists, I mean, I don't need to say anything more about Oprah, you know, like there's, there's so much can be said, and I'm not trying to like, you know, I'm not trying to make anyone into a saint or, you know, I don't try to worship, you know, artists or famous people or anything like that.
But I think that it's fascinating that you have this south node, Venus south node conjunction, followed by an encounter with Pluto and then a Venus retrograde in a subsequent encounter with Pluto. At the time when one of our most like Venus south node-like figures, right? A kind of a spiritual woman in the popular eye, let's call it that way, and maybe you don't agree with that. So you know, peace be with you.
I just find that really fascinating. I just want to see where the nodes were in her chart because I forgot. I can't remember which signs they were in, so it looks like they were in maybe Capricorn and Cancer, so that's interesting. That she has she has at the Venus cazimi.
One thing that's interesting is she has the Venus Sun cazimi is opposite Pluto and Leo in her chart, so there's definitely like a Venus-Pluto dynamic, and that's pretty common for, you know, like women who are powerhouses to have like Venus-Pluto configuration, even by poll sign. But anyway, that's neither here nor there. Sorry. I just was curious.
I think those are interesting examples in sort of art and culture of things that were happening that seem to reflect the accumulated and crystallize kind of otherworldly Venus, the south node Venus, the, you know, the example of Freddie Mercury, the debuting of Phantom of the Opera kind of a Beauty and the Beast theme, Oprah Winfrey Show launching.
So now, again, I don't say those things because I'm sitting here trying to make any predictions about what's happening in the collective right now; really, you guys know, that's not my wheelhouse. But I like using little examples like that once in a while as a way of highlighting a principle that we should be thinking about when it comes to the astrology and how it might be impacting us personally right now.
It is a really powerful time for that kind of crystallization of spiritualized Venusian understanding. That was a mouthful. We're getting smarter about Venus stuff. There's a Venusian transformation, an ability to understand things in a much more spiritual way when it comes to relationships, love, you know, the topics of women. Sex, sensuality, pleasure, harmony, relationships, beauty, art, something crystallizing, as we also catalyze this very deep Plutonian transformation.
So that's what I see coming this week. That's, I think, you know, arguably maybe the biggest transit of the month. Venus will go into Scorpio and oppose Uranus, you know, and Jupiter in December as well. That's super fascinating.
We'll be looking at some of those things in the astrology of December, of course, and in horoscopes and stuff like that. So stay tuned for more on the transits of Venus this week, especially if you want to tune in for your horoscope. We're looking at those Venusian transits in the horoscopes once Venus gets into Scorpio, so anyway, that's it for today.
