This isn't about mere astrology; it's about the astrology of the heart. It's about the fateful moment when you realize your dignity is not up for negotiation. In this episode, we explore Aries not just as a sign, but as an archetypal rite of passage. We delve into the three layers of power struggle that define this transit: the external battles for respect, the internal wars with our own "itty bitty, shitty committee," and the ultimate, cosmic wrestling match with any image of the Divine that feels oppressive. This is the process of individuation—not as a selfish act, but as the sacred duty of forging a soul strong enough to hold its own light.

Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Today we're going to take a look at Mars in the sign of Capricorn conjoining the sun. This means that Mars is at the heart of the sun, or cazimi, and I've got a special written meditation and reflection for you all today on the archetypal meaning of this conjunction and how to work with it in our lives right now. So I hope that you will enjoy it.
Before we get started, as always, remember to like and subscribe. We know a lot of people watch the channel who are not yet subscribed, so take a second click subscribe. It helps us grow so much. We appreciate it. You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on the website, which is Nightlight astrology.com.
A major promotion for the week is that all of our Kickstarter rewards remain on sale through January 11. So if you missed the campaign, please feel free to take advantage of that. Go over to the Kickstarter page. You'll find it pinned to the top of the comment section or in the description of this video.
The best thing that you can take advantage of that only happens once a year, and will only be available through January 11, the end of this week, are the class passes that we offer. If you want to come study with us in June or November of this year, in our one year Pro, our first year program, take year two or horary in June, year three, our guild, our master class, starting in January and February, all of our programs can be bundled through these class passes.
That takes the savings for each individual course up to 50% or 75% off when you bundle them at two, three or four classes. Of course, even the one class pass is going to save you, like, $500 off the cost of the course. So if you plan on studying with us in the year ahead, now's the time to get, you know, kind of get out ahead of that tuition and save significantly.
We offer this because a lot of people ask us, in the first couple weeks of the new year, if they can still take advantage of some of the sales from the Kickstarter or pick up one of the rewards that maybe you missed. There's a ton of other great reward content, previous bundled master classes, all sorts of readings, stuff like that you can pick up.
So any of that is still available to you all the way through this Sunday. If you want to take advantage of that, or if you missed the campaign and you just want to support the channel, we appreciate that. So yeah, be sure to take advantage of that. And you know, if you set the intention for yourself in this new year to get more focused and immersed in astrology, then totally come study with us. We'd love to have you in our programs.
All right. On that note, I hope you will enjoy today's episode. Today, we're going to take a look at Mars cazimi. Mars cazimi means that Mars is at the heart of the sun, or exactly conjoined at the sun, while Mars is also exalted in the sign of Capricorn. This is a very powerful moment of resetting and rebirth within the Synodic Cycle of Mars and the Sun. So we're going to take a look at that today.
I've got a written reflective meditation that I've got for us today. It'll hopefully shed some light on this dynamic. So before we get into it, as always, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments and reflections. If you've got them, you can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on my website, which is Nightlight astrology.com.
If you're not yet subscribed, take a moment to do so. It really helps us grow. We deeply appreciate it. When you head over to the website, a couple of things to check out: go to the events page, click on live talks. You'll see that on January 22 from six to 8:30pm Eastern, I'm giving a talk on the 10th house in ancient astrology, as well as the degree of the midheaven.
What's the difference between the degree of the midheaven and the whole sign 10th house? We'll talk about that as well. If you can't make it, you get the recording afterwards. So be sure to check that out.
Silent Sundays, if you want to come join us for quiet meditation and community, we meet at 10:30am Central, 11:30am Eastern. This Sunday, January 11, is our next meeting. That's totally free. You can find the Zoom link there on the page. Come meditate with us. It's a great way to start your morning and cap off a week, start a new week.
The other thing you'll find is, if you go to Courses, you're going to notice that our guild membership, our third year program, our Master Class series, all start here in January and February. It's not too late to join those. There are need-based tuition plans if you need some help, so be sure to check all of that good stuff out.
All right. So as you guys know, I got sick last week, which means this week I'm on a super tight, condensed production schedule. I'm having to get five videos made in a single day, which is crazy. So my videos are a little bit shorter, and thankfully, I did have some opportunity over the weekend with downtime to write, which is a lot easier than talking when you have a sore throat as well.
So I have a written piece today, brief, that will help us do some centering around the Mars cazimi. So I hope that you will enjoy this. Now, before we get into it, I want to show you on the Real Time Clock what we're looking at here. It's Wednesday today, as you're listening to this, January 7.
But on the ninth, that's Friday, you'll see that Mars is cazimi in the sign of Capricorn. And if we back this up, you'll notice that cazimi actually really starts as early as today, January 7. It's strong on the 11th, and then it's perfecting by Friday. It's still present on Saturday, and then it really starts to separate by Sunday, January 11.
So this is alongside Venus's cazimi, by the way, happening at the exact same time. And some oppositions to Jupiter. We're going to look at those oppositions to Jupiter and the cancer Capricorn axis at the end of the week. And you'll notice on Tuesday and Thursday, I have some filler content from previous episodes on Neptune and Aries that I thought were worth reproducing and that are helping me catch up with my production schedule.
So I hope that you'll find value in this slightly different week of formatted programming. But at any rate, here's what I've got for us today. This special moment called a cazimi is a rare and concentrated turning point in every Mars cycle. Mars disappears into the solar center and it passes through the core of light itself for a brief moment.
This planet of action, desire, conflict, courage, effort, perseverance is seated at the throne of the sun. It's not consumed or overwhelmed, but clarified in this special moment. This is happening in the sign of Capricorn and Mars in Capricorn is exalted. This is already a study in restraint and powerful Mars precision.
It is Mars in its exaltation, a place where raw impulse is refined into mature, steady, disciplined purpose and action. This is not the Mars that lashes out or rushes forward blindly in heat. This is the Mars that knows how to wait, how to plan, how to endure, how to act in calculated, incremental, structured, mature, disciplined, focused ways.
This is a Mars that has ambition with patience, effort coupled with direction, strength coupled with discipline. When Mars is reborn in the heart of the sun here, the result is therefore not likely to be an explosion of force, but a deep recalibration of willpower and its directed use.
Cazimi moments are not always loud. I said the same thing for Venus earlier this week. They are often more interior. They are moments when a planetary archetype is returned to its source and reseeded, that means a planet as a first principle.
So Mars, at the heart of the sun, marks the beginning of a new Mars cycle, which means a new way of relating to effort, action, intention, will, as well as things like anger, desire, conflict, courage and forward motion. Something old is being burned away so that something new and essential can remain.
In Capricorn, this rebirth asks a very sobering question: what is worth fighting for from this moment forward, no longer the past? From this moment forward, Mars governs how we assert ourselves, how we pursue our desires, how we hunt for what we want, how we protect boundaries, how we respond to obstacles, how we persevere through difficulties.
And in its exaltation, Mars learns that not every battle needs or deserves our engagement, not every desire deserves pursuit. Strength with Mars in Capricorn is measured not by intensity, but by endurance, by a kind of hard veteran wisdom that is reflected by a Saturn-ruled sign.
The ability to remain committed when motivation fades is a crucial resource available to us while Mars is being reset in Capricorn. By the willingness to shoulder responsibility without resentment, we start to move forward. Now, on the days this week of the cazimi themselves, you may notice a moment of clarity around direction and action and willpower, not necessarily tremendous excitement, but more like resolve.
There's a quiet sense of knowing where your energy belongs and where it absolutely does not belong. Mars cazimi will bring an internal realignment of will so that you'll feel less reactive, less impulsive, and more deliberate. Or you may suddenly recognize where your efforts have been scattered, misdirected, dispersive, wasted.
This is a very powerful day at the beginning of a new solar year for intention setting, perfect for January, but not in the sense of grand declarations. Be wiser than that right now. It's a day for honest reckoning, for asking yourself where your strength has been leaking away, for noticing where anger has been masking exhaustion or where busyness has replaced purpose.
Mars reborn here in the sign of Capricorn doesn't want you to just move or act for its own sake. If you're going to labor and exert a lot of effort over a long period of time, it may as well be meaningful. This new Mars cycle, seated here this week, suggests months ahead focused on sustained efforts, new long term goals, the cultivation of a refined and more mature inner authority.
This is a Mars reset that favors slow progress over dramatic leaps. You heard me saying the same thing for Venus cazimi. It supports work that's built step by step through consistency rather than just intensity. Intensity is no substitute for consistency. Put consistency first. Have intensity follow. This is not a cycle for shortcuts. It's a cycle for craftsmanship.
Now psychologically, Mars in Capricorn invites us to mature our relationship with anger, frustration and desire. Anger is not something we ever want to suppress, but something we want to understand and grow wiser in the way that we relate to. Often, anger will arise when boundaries have been crossed, or effort is going unrecognized, or we have overextended or are exhausting ourselves.
Mars cazimi offers a brilliant chance this week to clarify where anger, frustration or exhaustion is pointing toward necessary change. This is a moment that also invites us to examine our relationship with authority, both external authority figures or our own authority and responsibilities in the workplace, in the family and relationships, but also internal authority.
Capricorn is a sign of structures, and it works well within familiar hierarchies of measurement in the material world. This is the base of the mountain. That's the top of the mountain. Systems of responsibility. Mars reborn here may therefore ask, Who is in charge here? Maybe that's a psychological question to ask ourselves: where have you ceded power through avoidance, procrastination, fear? Where have you tried to be controlling where you cannot control someone or something?
I think at its absolute best, Mars in Capricorn teaches us how to lead ourselves, not through domination, but through consistently showing up with integrity, walking our talk, not through force, but through follow through. It shows us that true strength—a very important word for Capricorn, because Capricorn, for as hard and sometimes uncaring as we may accuse Capricorn of being, appreciates realism—true strength is the ability to keep going towards something you believe in when no one is watching, no one is applauding, the outcome is uncertain and the work is just repetitive.
Spiritually, this cazimi is an initiation into disciplined willpower. It's an invitation to align action with purpose, effort with meaning. You can think of it as, like I said with Venus cazimi, a quiet concentration of energy and willpower, an alignment, a moment to dedicate your labor, your struggle. Because life is a struggle. Life does involve struggle. It may as well be to something larger than ego gratification. What's the Great Mountain? These are good questions for Mars in Capricorn this week.
This is an excellent time to reflect on the commitments you're making, not just in your words, but in your actions. What are you showing up for consistently? What are you avoiding? What patterns of self-sabotage are ready to be dismantled, because you see very clearly what you need to do to be strong and not self-sabotaging, to be consistent, not self-sabotaging.
Mars cazimi in Capricorn doesn't demand perfection, and I don't think we should ever demand perfection, but I do think it asks us for sincerity, no BS. It asks for willingness and courage to face our limits honestly, to work within them rather than fighting against things. This is a Mars that understands limits are not punishments but containers and structures that, if used wisely, will allow efforts over time to accumulate meaningfully.
In the days and weeks that follow this cazimi, as Mars emerges from the heart of the sun—as Venus will too—Mars will become a morning star, Venus an evening star. They're places that they are very natural in. As this happens over the next couple of months, you may feel a renewed sense of purpose around work, health, boundaries, long term goals.
You may find it easier to say no where necessary and yes where commitment is required. You may feel less inclined toward drama and more inclined toward responsibility as a form of self-respect. Responsibility is a very healthy thing to double down on right now.
This Mars cycle can also redefine success. Capricorn carries a lot of ideas about achievement, productivity, worth. Mars reborn here asks us to examine whether our ambitions are ours or whether they're attempts to meet external expectations. It invites us to build lives that are not just impressive, but sustainable and authentic to our own nature.
There's a quiet dignity to Mars in Capricorn. It doesn't have to rush. It doesn't need to boast. It simply works. It understands that solid changes, meaningful changes, authentic changes, do not happen through single dramatic acts of heroism, but through daily acts of courageous consistency that nobody sees.
So as you move through this next several days, consider an act of intentionality. Write down a commitment you're willing to honor. Release an obligation that no longer aligns with your values. Consider sitting down and literally voicing gratitude for the ways that you already have endured, adapted, shown strength and progress, shown up, walked your talk. Show gratitude for those things.
Right now, maybe there's an energy of renewal and healing that can come by just taking that time out. I think that Mars, at the heart of the sun, reminds us that willpower is not about forcing an outcome. It's about aligning consistent efforts with truth. When our actions are rooted in integrity, they become steady. And when our goals are rooted in meaning, coupled with daily actions rooted in integrity, we develop sustainability.
This is an earth sign that values things that are sustainable in material, worldly, physical biorhythms. This is a moment to reclaim your energy if you've lost it, clarify your direction, recommit to the work of who you want to become.
You can feel how Mars in Capricorn, even in this talk, is something like a motivational coach. The most powerful shifts are not always big surges forward, but quiet, rock-solid decisions to go forward with something with clarity, discipline and a renewed sense of purpose that guides every step. That no one can take away from you because it's been planted in your heart and you are committing to it.
So anyway, I hope I was able to embody a little something of Mars in Capricorn in this little meditation that I wrote. You can imagine me sitting on my laptop, in my bed, slightly feverish, trying to imagine myself at the end of a 35-week lean bulk, resetting my own internal clock.
It was so funny to me that, you know, the very last week of my program, I get the flu from my kids and family, and have to go through this period of letting my body heal and recover as one program finishes and the next will slowly clarify. It's a perfect time for a Venus or a Mars reset for myself, too. On that level, I got to take all the advice I gave myself here today.
Anyway, I hope you're having a good one. I've got one more video on Neptune and Aries coming up at the end of this month that I'll give you tomorrow, and then a talk on the Cancer-Capricorn axis Friday.
