Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Mars has just entered the sign of Capricorn, where it was traditionally said to be exalted. However, Mars is also going through its synodic reset with the sun, which means it is combust. We're going to talk about why that isn't necessarily a big problem for Mars right now, and why? As it turns out, this might be one of the most potent transits for Mars of the year, even though it's coming in the final days of the year.
I'm going to give you a list of things to watch for, and then we're going to go through horoscopes for all 12 signs. Hopefully you will learn something about Mars and about synodic cycles, and it will be educational. You'll learn something about the archetypal nature of Mars in Capricorn, and you'll also get some practical value out of the horoscope. So a lot on the table today. I'm excited.
Before we get into it, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments, your reflections, hype us all of the good things we're seeing. If we can't get to 100,000 subscribers on the channel by next summer. So we need your help to get there. If you watch regularly, but aren't yet subscribed. Take a second.

And a big thanks to everyone who's already pitched in to support the channel. We really appreciate you guys.
All right. Well, on that note, now, as always, let's turn our attention to the real time clock. So here is the transit that we're looking at today. We're on Tuesday, December 16, and Mars has just entered the sign of Capricorn. Now that happened between Sunday night the 14th and Monday the 15th.
Now if I move this Mars along through the sign of Capricorn, I'm going to show you a couple of things. But the first thing to note is that Mars will be in the sign of Capricorn all the way until late January. So we're talking about, you know, between 30 and 40 days worth of Mars and Capricorn stay.
One of the reasons that that should be really interesting to us is that Mars is exalted in the sign of Capricorn, and even though Mars is technically a malefic that is associated with a lot of things that we find difficult as human beings, competition, conflict, severing, destruction, violence, hostility, but also courage and Mars, quite simply, is a God that corresponds to action, perseverance, determination, hard work, sort of you know, putting your nose to the grindstone, getting in there and getting something done can be very Marcy.
Not surprisingly, Mars is exalted in the sign of capcorn, which is the domicile of Saturn. And so Mars and Saturn, as we've also explored this month through their square, can work together to create tremendous effort, consistency, devotion, duty of of the highest order, and can bring about incredible results because of stick to itiveness and endurance.
So it's not all bad. Mars in Capricorn tends to bring out the best in Mars. We're going to explore why that is today. Say a little bit more about that, but there are some other important features of this. Mars in. Capricorn transit. We're going to do horoscopes today.
So I'm going to tell you, you know, here's some of the best possible things you could look for or expect given this exalted status of Mars in Capricorn, which I know will be interesting to everyone to just get a feel for, like, where, what part of your life is Mars working through right now.
But there's also a reset happening in the Synodic Cycle. What I want you to notice on this chart is that the sun is just behind Mars. The sun moves faster than Mars, which means the sun is about to overcome Mars. This is the reset of their Synodic Cycle. So not only is Mars exalted, but it's about to go through a synodic reset.
Interestingly, so is Venus. So Venus and Mars both in Capricorn at the same time in early January, are going to come together. Now watch this as it occurs. So here is the sun and Venus coming together on their cazimi. That's January 6. Now the very next day, you'll see that Venus and Mars can join and now the sun joins them.
So Venus is still cazimi, and now all three planets are together at the same degree, and they're all cazimi. So basically a triple conjunction between Mars, Venus and the Sun around January 8. Now as that triple conjunction occurs, the sun on January 9, will go through the reset with Mars, and then we're going to see gradually the two planets separate.
This is the reset for both Venus and Mars. Today. Since we're focusing on Mars, there's a couple of things that we're going to watch for. We're thinking about this as a very empowered sort of brings out the best in Mars. Mars never stops being Mars, of course, so we have to talk about the potential difficulties of any Mars transit.
But Mars, being Mars in its exaltation, tends to bring out some of its best significations that, alongside of a cyclical reset for Mars, suggests that there is a very empowered state of rebirth happening for the Mars archetype in our lives, in a certain area of our life. That's what our horoscopes are going to accomplish today.
The other thing that's really interesting is, well, a couple of things. One, when a planet is in their own domicile or their own exaltation, some astrologers would even say their own bound and they're going through combustion, they're said to be protected. The technical term is a planet being in its chariot, which means that, because it's in a sign that it considers an empowered, familiar place, that the effects of combustion are greatly mitigated.
So we have a Mars here whose combustion is taking place, a reset is taking place, but rather than Mars being totally broken down, it's protected from that combustive breakdown at the reset of the cycle by virtue of being in its own exaltation. Now what is also interesting to note are what traditional astrologers said about Mars when it was combust.
In general, almost all major authors from the ancient tradition said that combustion is a severe condition for a planet that it often means the planet is sort of drowned out, weakened, disempowered, harmed in whatever it represents. However, because Mars has some different qualities associated associated with it that tend to match with some of the qualities of the sun, traditional astrologers said that it wasn't quite the same for Mars.
So, for example, the combustion of a malefic, says Christian, says William Lilly in his book Christian astrology, this is a renaissance astrologer whose text is quite famous, the combustion of a malefic is not so great an impediment for the sun is of their nature, which means that because there's a dryness and a hotness to Mars, for example, or a dryness to Saturn, that because the sun is drying, that these two planets don't suffer in the same way as, say, the moon or Venus Jupiter, etc.
In other words, it's not the same as saying that this empowers Mars, but it is. It reduces less of Mars's capacity to be positive. So again, it's like mitigation. Abu Machar, for example, said the Sun has a familiarity with the nature of Mars. Their powers combine in heat and dryness.
So this would mean that the combustion doesn't corrupt Mars quality, but may even intensify its solar nature a little bit, meaning that Mars getting heated up is not such an issue issue, because it's Mars, and Mars is already kind of a hot planet. So in other words, it's not like it's sort of completely changing the nature of Mars to be combust.
You know, Sol and Masha. Allah medieval authors say texts that say that malefic might become not less powerful or effective, but maybe a little bit more hidden or unseen, because they are, in fact, not visible in the sky. But that's a lot that's that is far less a problem than what they have to say about other planets like Venus or Mercury when they're combust.
So interestingly, Vettius Valens says that Mars in the beams of the sun can cause harsh and compulsive actions, as though Mars being under the beams of the sun makes it a little bit like hotter and more impulsive. That's interesting. So some different things that are said. Rhetorius said because the sun and Mars are of similar natures, heat and dryness increase because of the shared constitution, Mars is less harmed by the sun's proximity.
Bonatti said that the malefic suffer less from combustion. Mars suffers especially little since its nature accords with the sun. So here you see over astrological history, just a couple of examples of authors saying that, basically, because Mars is very hot and fiery like the sun, that the combustion of Mars to the sun can either amplify some of its like hot or more impulsive qualities, which doesn't make Mars ineffective.
It makes Mars more Mars like or you have some people saying, well, it just doesn't, because Mars is sort of similar to the sun, it just doesn't fall into the same damage that other planets would in this category of combustion. Either way, when we look at this Mars synodic reset, we're looking at an exalted Mars in its own chariot going through a reset.
That's not quite the same for Mars as it is for other planets. This should give us, I think, some optimism here for the Mars reset that's occurring when we look at horoscopes. I think, for example, we can imagine what a reset, rebirth, restart, start of a new chapter, all appropriate Synodic Cycle reset metaphors could look like given the exalted status of Mars.
It might be quite strong and beneficial or positive right now, so I'm taking a more positive slant on today's horoscopes with all of this in mind. But do keep in mind that you know, as we go, it's Mars, right? It's still Mars, and Mars can bring the heat. So anyway, that's our technical lesson for the day.
I hope that was interesting for you. Let's talk about five things to watch for given Mars and Capricorn between now and late January, overall, the number one thing on my list, and these are these aren't like in order of importance, but just like the first thing that came to my mind is that when Mars is exalted, where strong actions are taken with consistent effort, discipline, focus, maturity, strong results follow.
So you know, for example, when let's just say you have Mars in the third house in Capricorn, I'll probably say something like this on our our horoscopes today, got Mars in the third house in Capricorn, it might be that a writing or editing project or even a podcasting project, very third house, see that you are working on, or have been working on, or are launching with a lot of hard work, dedication, effort and focus will turn out well, or it will find ease in being disseminated, or something like that.
So that where there's strong effort and action and strong like exercise of ambition and will, there's likely to be strong results. Now that could also mean that where you are acting, you know, most, let's say, willfully, with ego and arrogance and control and domination, you're also going to get some strong results, you know, which might have karmic backlash associated with it.
So there's always a beware. But this is a very strong Mars that rewards hard work. Let's put it that way. So this is the first thing to watch for in today's horoscopes, especially over the next month. You're just going to notice that mountain climbing Mars is with us right now and loves to do hard things.
Number two, overcoming adversity is one of the greatest promises of a significantly like a very well dignified Mars. Also, the idea that Mars is going through a reset of a Synodic Cycle right now could mean that a new cycle of effort and activity is beginning, which means new ambitions are arising, because you've overcome previous challenges.
And let's be let's be honest, as soon as one challenge is done, another one arises. I would say, like, case in point, my life as a parent, you think, you think one stage of their growth is over, you're like, Oh, it's so nice that my daughter isn't, you know, running behind the curtain to poop in her diaper anymore, and she's finally getting on the toilet, you know, to do it.
And we're so proud. And like, oh, remember when we were changing diapers, you know? And the next thing that comes about. It is their, their shitty little attitude that they can, you know, they're starting, they're starting to articulate themselves more. You're like, I think you're actually a dick. I think you're a jerk.
Now I have to overcome the part of me that, you know, I have to overcome this stage of parenting, and then, like, at any time that I'm like, this is, like, guaranteed, anytime that I'm hanging out with some parents, or whatever. There's always one parent, you know, that's like, six, seven years older or further on than I am, or whatever, and I'm going, man, yeah, this last stage was hard.
I like, feel like we just got through something. And they're like, just wait till they're a teenager. It's like, it's like, there's a nuclear bomb in your future. And I'm just going to remind you of it. You know, people always have to do that. In fact, as soon as you're pregnant, you can just expect that your joy will be shat on by like half, like, statistically, the likelihood is like half of the people you meet when you're pregnant will try to make you feel like the rest of your life is screwed.
But this is because we all know the great archetypal secret, which is that mountains appear and then mountains are hills, and then hills are mountains, and mountains are hills, and hills become mountains all over again. So a little thing, you know, in something that you've overcome now it's a little thing, but then there's another big thing in front of you, and it just keeps moving like this.
But the nice thing about this is that we can pause and maybe recognize in the space that we're in right now that, hey, I've just overcome some adversity. If there was a great work, if there was a great project, if there was a great effort, you might be at a place where you're like, I did that.
I did that phase of the journey. And now the cycle begins, there will be a new set of challenges to face that come on and are, in some ways, the little seeds are being planted right now. Number three, inceptions and initiation. Well, Mars, as we've talked about recently, we explored Mars as an archive in relation to Saturn recently, on the channel, Mars is also the God of inceptions and initiation.
And so if you think about Mars as a planet that likes to start things and likes to initiate things. You can also use the word individuation when you come back to that later, but a little bit different here, where desire is thought to be the guiding or propelling force of creation. In ancient philosophy, this is mostly the case in all these spiritual mystical traditions, from Buddhism to yoga to, you know, Western Christian hermeticism, like all of it, desire is the fuel of the cycles in the material world.
The ever cycling Wheel of Fortune is propelled by desire. And then desire comes into conflict with other beings and competition, you know, and dominance and all of it, not that desire has to work that way, but it's just a fact, according to ancient astrologers, that on this plane, this dualistic sort of material plane that we're in, that's part of the it's part of the deal.
It's part of the programming. However, along the path of desire, there are heroic ambitions, noble pursuits, aspirations that reflect a genuine desire to serve, to heal, to work for the good. These are all the valor of Mars as well. And Mars and Capricorn especially, can bring out that sense that there are mountains to climb that are good, noble, virtuous.
The best kind of mountain to climb is the mountain of, you know, spiritual life, and you can conceptualize it as a mountain. You don't have to, because it might be a bummer to think about it that way, but let's be honest, any great work in our life from the Mars and Capricorn perspective, whether it's becoming the best person you can, raising kids, developing a career, even just living a life until you kick the can right, all of it is sort of like a great work that's one, one archetypal perspective on the matter.
For every phase of life, there are new things that make life worth living, that make life about the pursuit of something greater, in desire, in action, in activity, in cycles and seasons that initiate new activities, new desires and new great works, new great missions, the inceptions and initiation of those things often come along the lines of Mars's synodic resets, just like this one with Mars exalted, what a great work you're about to set off on.
You could think about it that way, initiated into a new cycle of heroic nightly activity, and conceptualize it as, you know, like Joan of Arc or what is the what? How does the feminine carry that wisdom? It might look very different than, you know, the typical sort of masculine hero archetype. The way the feminine carries inceptions, initiations and great work might be much more about empathy and embodiment these.
This is a feminine earth sign, by the way. So it's not illegal to feminize Mars in Capricorn, effort and outcome. Another thing that is just very true about this is to what when I mentioned this earlier, but it bears repeating, anything that you have put a lot of effort into when Mars is in Capricorn, where it is exalted, remember the.
Exaltations, and I've said this before on the channel, it's something that we explore in depth in my classrooms. But the categories of dignity all have different uses and meanings to them. They're not just generic standards of strength. They all have philosophical backgrounds and really important to understand exaltations and depressions, the opposite categories like like domicile and detriment.
Exaltations and depressions refer to cycles of fortune in the Wheel of Karma, the big peaks and the big valleys and there's so when Mars is exalted, it often brings about results in the wheel of fortune that are up at the top. Hey, here's great Mars achievement. Here's something you did that really marked you you you kicked some ass, you took some names.
You know, you did it so effort and outcome rewarded, greatly rewarded while Mars is in Capricorn. Now you can start things while Mars is in Capricorn that can also be greatly rewarded later. Or you could be in receipt of things that have had a lot of effort going into it in the past.
Either are appropriate for what is the kind of the final moment of Mars in Capricorn, as well as a starting moment. So that kind of boundary between the fruiting of an old cycle, completion of old cycle in the beginning of a new one. Finally, individuation and or conflict. Look for Mars.
It's always about, you know, the path of becoming more uniquely ourselves as an ego, often, which is not, you know, nothing wrong with having an ego, as you've heard me say on this channel. However, individuation, that you can always tell like a kind of like a barometer for individuation, is the degree to which becoming ourselves involves us in hostility, conflict, competition, dominance, the need to win or be superior.
So watch for those things right now. It could be real shadows of Mars and Capricorn, sort of like, well, the harder things I've accomplished make me better than everyone else. That's a real shadow of Mars and Capricorn. But in general, this is a great time to get a clear sense of where your personal evolution is heading.
Mars can be tracked along like individuation lines. In other words, like, how am I becoming more of myself apart from others uniquely me? That's a Mars thing that cuts and severs and separates us self from other. Conflict can be a part of a transit like this, and the conflict can be pretty epic, given some of the maybe more challenging sides of a combustion, of an exaltation, even of a death and rebirth moment like the cazimi.
We're going to explore the cazimi in particular, in depth, we're going to include Venus alongside because, as you saw, they're all triple conjoined. But for date today, just some focus on that place of Mars. What I'm going to do next is I'm going to do horoscopes for all 12 signs.
I have a brief list of things to watch for, three things for each sign that I've written, I am finding that it really helps me to write things in advance for horoscopes, rather than talking off the cuff. So All right, so we're going to work this through the 12 signs, and I'm going to give you three things to think about for every whole sign, Mars placement.
Now I recommend listening to this for your rising sign. That'll correspond with the whole sign version of your birth chart, and the transits will then be accurate. However, if you listen to your sun sign, that's fine too. So let's start off with Aries, with Mars in the 10th house cazimi.
Remember, it's the combust the cazimi, the reset of Mars in an exalted status. So I'm going to look at it from that point of view. And I'm telling you just straight off the bat, I'm looking at this in a slightly more positive way, less shadows, more encouraging Outlook to to just be transparent about it.
So the 10th house placement for Aries. Let's think about career renewal. Old ambitions are burning off, revealing a more mature strategic aim or set of goals or ambitions. Number two would be some reset or change or shift around authority, maybe reclaiming control or redefining your leadership role, or issues around leadership in the workplace.
And then finally, let's call it the cazimi mission. When the cazimi comes through in January, you might be looking at some kind of new professional path, title, or a long term goal or vision in your career, being initiated. That's the cazimi mission. Let's call it all right, let's go to Taurus.
For Taurus, we're looking at the ninth house placement of Mars in Capricorn. Let's call it first and foremost, a belief purification, philosophical or spiritual frameworks are ready to undergo refinement or change or shift of direction or purpose, study and teaching. Dis. Discipline, you are going to focus on maybe a new, serious educational or spiritual aim or practice, or your understanding of something Mars, like, like, I could even see this for me as a deepening of my education in fitness and, like, bodybuilding, something that I study a lot on the side, just for my hobby, just the Mars in the ninth house.
So you could see it that way. The cazimi vision here might be about a new worldview, a new doctrine, a new direction taking place, or even the completion of some kind of ninth house process, education, publishing, spirituality, teaching curriculum, etc. All right, let's move along to Gemini, which places this exalted Mars in the eighth house.
I'm looking at some kind of reset around debts or shared resources, where something is being cut away or perhaps reorganized entirely, very deeply. I could also see this being a time where Shadow Work is intensified within soul dynamics that you share with other people. Combustion may bring buried dynamics into the open, or may cut certain ties or develop new bonds.
This is a house of soul contracts. And then finally, let's call it a cazimi Revelation, where, when Mars and the Sun come together in January, some kind of breakthrough that has to do with fear, power, power dynamics in relationships, shared commitments, establishing new contracts or cutting old ones again as a very marked moment of change or initiation.
And don't worry, we're if you missed it, I went over the timeline of the cazimi in the beginning. I and we'll be revisiting that in January too. So just think about all of this as something taking place between now and late January. So for cancers, we're talking about the seventh house.
I would say relationship pressures may be important right now, or maybe featured hidden frustrations that come to the surface to be burned away clearer contracts, a more mature structure or boundary is formed within an interpersonal relationship or agreement of some kind. And then for cancers, I would also think about a cazimi union, where a new relational pattern is born stronger, more stable, more committed, or even some effort or action that's being initiated as a couple.
When a couple starts a business or decides to, you know, buy a house together, or, like, some decision that you're making together as a couple could also come about, also major changes in the lives of partners coming under this transit. All right, let's go to Leo. So for Leo, we're looking at the sixth house.
This is the joy of Mars. Traditionally, the sixth house was, plus is exalted in going under a reset. So for Leo's, I could see this as a time where any kind of burnout reveals the need for better systems, boundaries, routines or work habits. Health discipline, where a return to strength, physical energy, focused habit changes that express healthier, happier qualities within yourself.
So health and discipline. Health discipline of health and body, strength and mind. And then let's call it a cazimi medicine, where maybe a new healing, a new workflow, a new way of spending time, money or energy, comes about that makes things more effective. So these are the kinds of things I'm imagining from ours, but also like, what is the greater mission that you are working toward or dedicating yourself toward? This could be a great time to sort of redefine things that you are in service to.
All right, for Virgos, we're placing this in the fifth house that's going to be the house when these, excuse me, when Mars goes through the reset exalted in this house, I think about creative discipline, getting rid of distractions so you can put focus on long term creative projects. If there is anything that you have been working on creatively, you may find that you're receiving some of the results of the fruits of your labor or effort.
Romantic connections could become a little bit, maybe perhaps more clarified, like, what do I actually desire? What do I actually like? What do I actually want? It's a time to get a little bit more serious or focused on what feels good. And then let's call it a cazimi Spark in the fifth house, where a new, creative, joyful pursuit is initiated with determination.
So anything in the name of pleasure or creative fulfillment that's being reset or initiated. That's for Virgos. Let's go to Libras, where the Mars in Capricorn period is taking place. In your fourth house, let's call it roots renewals. There is a maybe an internal reset. Happening around home, stability, family roles.
Let's call let's talk about authority dynamics in the house or home, shared duties or responsibilities. If you're married, if you have kids, if you're kind of defining who plays what roles and how to make sure that child or childhood, that family and child dynamics are all together, taking care of the duties of the home.
So like, if your kids need a list of chores, or if you as a couple need to creatively determine who's in charge of what, who's doing the finances, who's paying the bills, you know, who's cleaning the kitchen, whatever, something like that. The other thing would be cazimi in the home and hearth.
To me, that means maybe new foundations, new boundaries, new long term plans for where you're going to live or what home or family is going to feel like. Family Planning could occur under a transit like this. So those are all interesting things to consider. At the roots for Librans, for Scorpios, we're looking at the third house.
So I think about communication intensity. Conversations getting sharper, more direct, more purposeful, any kind of sibling neighbor, third house has to do with peers. So siblings, neighbors, friends, peers, some kind of clearing out mentally, verbally in communication that burns away tension or confusion, potential for conflicts around words or thoughts or ideas.
And then, let's call it a cazimi Insight, where there could be a strong wave of mental clarity, new pattern of planning or messaging a new a new cycle of learning or developing mentally and intellectually, as well as looking at the dynamics of competition and looking at, you know, what makes you feel strong amidst your peers, and What are the shadows of any competitive drives that you have or that exist within certain relationships that would also be totally appropriate.
All right, let's go to Sagittarius, where we see Mars exalted in the second house. So let's call it first a financial restructure. Something is being burned off so that a leaner, stronger system of money, time, energy expenditures and resources can be developed. Let's say there might be value clarifications taking place.
The combustion forces, honesty around what's working, what's not, what's worth working for or toward, what's not, and maybe even what resources, assets, financial or material plans, goals, values are worth continuing to pursue. Like, are these ambitions the right ones? Are these values the right ones? And then let's call it a cazimi asset activation, where a new source of income or a new skill is being initiated that could be related to income, or a new cycle, generally, around things like money, income and assets are being initiated.
So a cazimi rebirth of something to do with assets, time, money, etc. Now for Capricorns, you're getting it in your first house. This is a moment of identity reset, a kind of solar purification of your will. Old motivations, burning off new motivations, forming new self concept emerging. This is that quintessential moment of individuation we were talking about in our five things to watch for, Capricorns, especially getting that strategic discipline, locking into long term goals with renewed commitment, or developing new goals or realizing the fruit of your labor from old goals.
And then finally, let's call it a cazimi moment of reforged willpower, where the cazimi can eventually help you download new patterns of identity, and maybe even as they are rooted in feeling like you've accomplished something or you've leveled up somehow. So I love that for Capricorns, I feel like this one is like, very empowering for Capricorns in the next month.
All right, let's go to Aquarius, where we now see Mars in the 12th one of the more difficult placements. It's a, it's a well dignified Mars, but any kind of hidden drama, conflict, or let's call it hidden, a hidden battle is taking place. Old patterns or enemies are burned through and clarified.
Unconscious patterning has to be looked at and is coming up in a way that feels more confrontational. Also, solitude is a strategy right now for you as an Aquarius, I feel like you're the only horoscope where I felt like I needed to give you a piece of advice, which is, withdraw a little bit.
If you withdraw, you may find that you're able to circumvent is that the right word certain conflicts or shadows within yourself. Just take a step back if you need to finally. Let's go. Call it a cazimi liberation. This is a Moksha house. So a karmic reset could be taking place, where a new chapter of freedom from that past burdens emerges as a cycle of conflict or drama or shadow work is sort of coming to a head and being released.
I think that would be the most beneficial thing happening for Aquarians. Finally, for Pisceans, we have Mars in the 11th let's first talk about community, group, friends, allies, network socially and the dynamics within them. There might be decisive changes, cuts, restructurings, conflicts within group, or strategic alliances, where the combustion burns away old goals and replaces them with new goals, or you receive the blessings and benefits of old efforts with colleagues, friends, networks, or in some larger field you're recognized for it.
Maybe you achieve something. A new set of goals emerges also any need to burn away like the wrong kinds of groups or friendships and replace them with more strategically aligned relationships, socially and your long term dreams or goals. Let's call this cazimi A a moment of resetting long term dreams, goals or ambitions and how you're going to approach achieving them.
So some, some really nice things, I think I tried to stay, you know, pretty positive today and encouraging. Some, obviously, some people have little bit more difficult house placement, but overall, I really like the promise of this transit. So I'm going to leave it there after I sign off.
