Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Today we are going to be taking a look at the conjunction of Mercury and Mars in the sign of Scorpio. This is a conjunction that's been building up for a while now, reaching kind of a boiling point, a very powerful transit.
I'm going to give you five things to watch for today, and I'm going to talk about why this transit often coincides with very important but not always easy conversations. So we'll take a look at that. I'll explain that symbolism for you as well.
I will also tell you what's on my altar for this week, since it's Monday and I'm going to do horoscopes for the fixed signs today, because you've got this mercury Mars conjunction in Scorpio in one of your Angular houses. So that will be our agenda for today.
Before we get into it, remember to like and subscribe. Click that notification bell for updates whenever we go live or new episodes. Drop share your comments that helps the algorithm find us. You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on our website. Of course, that's Nightlight astrology.com
this week, I have a new monthly webinar coming up on Thursday evening. If you go to live talks, you will see my talk on the second house all that grows in our garden is happening this Thursday night, from seven to 9pm Eastern. You get the recording if you can't make it live, if you want to learn more about that money house, where it comes from, all that the ancients thought about it, and how you can learn to read it more sensitively in your own chart.
Really understand the karma around money in your own chart. That's going to be a really good talk for you. Also go to Silent Sundays. Under events, we're hosting a free monthly community meditation gathering once per month on Sundays, you can see the schedule listed. It's free to join, just click on the link.
Literally join a Zoom meeting on Sunday the 26th will be our first meeting at 10:30am if you're looking to add more spiritual depth to your practice of astrology, what I share with my altar every week, considering an altar practice coming to Silent Sundays, I'm trying to provide some more meaningful bridges for people who find this to be a very spiritually relevant part of your life, but maybe are seeking to couple it with a few other practices.
So I hope that this will be of service to you. It's free. Hope to see you there. Also go to courses. Click on first year course, the early bird rate for our year one program that begins on November 8 is ending this Friday, so you have still this week to take advantage of the early bird rate for the first year course.
There's an informational video at the end of today's talk tagged on to tell you all about the program, everything that you need to know about it. Early Bird rates are at the bottom. There's also sliding scale tuition assistance. So if you're someone who'd like to take the program, but you need a little help, maybe exchange rates are high.
You're on a fixed, limited income. There's a sliding scale there. You need $30 a month, $40 a month, $50 a month. We allow you to work within a sliding scale so that the program can be really accessible for people. We don't want something that is spiritual, and we think really important for humans in general to know about to be inaccessible because of things like socio economic background.
So that's a big part of our mission at Nightlight. Please do take advantage of it. Every day I've been saying something about why I think astrology is valuable, and why you might want to consider taking the time to study it in depth in one of our programs, the first year program is the best starting place.
Obviously, I believe that if people who study astrology, people like myself, who practice it, people like yourself who just it's an important part of your life, it comes from a long tradition, actually, of what I call monks living in the city. Astrologers are really people who use astrology in a mentally saturated urban landscape, meaning your mind is usually pretty active and busy as an everyday part of life, and this language of the heavens allows you to take that intellect and give it something like a daily walking meditation practice, but your walking meditation practice is this moving language of the sky that allows you to see something transcendental reflected in the everyday movements of life in the city.
So who are astrologers? We're the monks who still live in the world. We're the monks who still live in the city. And if you want that language to grow deeper, if you want you know to find yourself growing in your meditation on life through the language of astrology, studying it at some point is necessary.
In my humble opinion, you just can't go as deeply, and you can't move to the deepest, richest parts of the practice without a little bit of guidance, without community, without structured learning, a lineage, all of those things I think are really important.
So I hope you'll stick around and learn more about the program and consider coming to study with us next month. All right. On that note, it's a big day. Today, we've got Mercury and Mars conjoining in Scorpio, so let's take a look at it.
All right. So here Mercury and Mars are conjoining Monday, October 20. Now I want to go back in time, because it's actually been a little while in the making. Let's go back just a couple of weeks. And I want you to remember that at the beginning of October, on the sixth Mercury entered Scorpio, and as soon as it entered Scorpio, it squared Pluto.
So that mercury Pluto square really meant that as soon as Mercury. Mercury entered the sign of Scorpio. It was immediately doing some pretty deep, heavy lifting. And that conversation, you may go back and even remember, reflect on what was happening in your life around the beginning of October, some powerful conversations, ideas, thoughts, communication, all amplified as soon as Mercury entered Scorpio.
But we said at that time there was a full moon. You might remember in Aries, that full moon in Aries was in the bound of mercury. Well, Mercury is in the bound and sign of Mars Pluto was in the bound of mercury. And we said this initial conversation around the full moon at the beginning of October would be intensifying and deepening as Mercury and Mars actually come together in the sky, which they are now doing two weeks later, on Monday, October 20, today.
So this is a conversation that's been developing. It's an insight that has been building. It's a breakthrough that has been in process and growing, really, since that full moon at the early part of October that might give you a little history to work with.
Might be useful. And I want you to consider that this is also coming in this week, as between today and tomorrow, the New Moon in Libra will also form. Now we're going to be taking some time for that New Moon in Libra tomorrow.
We're starting off with this mercury Mars conjunction today. We'll do the new moon tomorrow. We'll say more about that tomorrow, given that it's a Venus ruled, uh, new moon, and that Venus is in Libra, but it's also, it's an important moment to even note right now that as Venus is in Libra, she's also in the bound of mercury, mercury, and Mars's conversation is very important for even in a big picture sense, whatever Venus is up to in the next moon cycle.
So if that's peace, equality, beauty, dignity, relationships, the conversation between Mercury and Mars right now, pointed as it may be, is really happening in a way on behalf of Venus and a whole Venus ruled cycle that's coming in tomorrow.
So that in mind, I think that we have at least a constructive way of looking at this mercury Mars conjunction, which can be rather intense, and thinking to ourselves, well, whatever it is, it's actually maybe trying to facilitate some greater peace, flow, harmony or connection, according to, you know, the upcoming cycle that is Venus ruled.
Well, Venus is in the bound of this mercury conjoining Mars. So that makes sense. The other thing that's happening really interestingly in the week ahead that we're going to be looking at is This Grand Water Trine that's forming between Mercury Mars, Saturn and Jupiter.
So it there's some layers here that get pretty interesting as the end of October unfolds and we get into our first of the Grand Water Trine. Again. More on that as the Week continues today. What I want to do is I want to just give you five things to watch for, given that these two planets, when they combine, are pretty they're very potent.
The reason for that is that Mars is in its own rulership, and Mercury and Mars together have a long history of being incisive and explosive mentally, verbally and emotionally when paired in the sign. So I'm going to give you five things to watch for in no particular order, that you may notice now or not even maybe in the last couple of weeks, since that full moon, since October 6, building up to now.
So keep that in mind, there might be a little history behind this. Number one is the theme of investigation. Investigation could be personal and psychological. It could be professional. It could be within a research field. It could be in a science but the probing or trying to get to the bottom of something, trying to understand something that has been unconscious, trying to interpret your dreams, trying to understand the hidden or secretive dynamics of something that has been maybe hard to grasp up until now, investigation as well as punctuated Moments of a breakthrough in understanding an ability to when you reach the point where you can finally explain something to someone else that you yourself have had a hard time understanding.
Isn't that one of the most remarkable moments, it happens to me all the time when you know, like, we'll be watching a show. It's a silly example, but you watching a show and the plots a little complicated, and you're, you know, me and my wife will be trying to figure it out, and all of a sudden I'll understand what's happening, and I'll go, oh, this is what's happening, and I'll explain it.
There's such excitement, even in simple, stupid, little mundane moments like that, because all of a sudden all the puzzle pieces come together, and the investigation and the inquiry and the inquisitiveness and the feeling of grasping at straws. All, all of it suddenly comes together in a marked moment of clarity, and you have that incisive I know now I can wield the power of this understanding through explanation or something like that.
So all of these are would be very appropriate for the. Kinds of things that Mercury and Mars signify together. Number two would be determination when Mercury and Mars get together, especially in a fixed water sign like this, with a pretty strong Mars in its own domicile, get that feeling that what you set your mind on you will do when you get an idea under a transit like this, there's often a real sense of power, motivation, follow through, stick to itiveness, perseverance that comes with it.
So it's a good seating moment for ideas that require perseverance and determination and hard work. And like, for example, this would be the kind of transit that someone might decide, I'm going to I'm going to become a journalist, or I'm going to go to medical school, or I'm going to go get a PhD in research chemistry, or whatever the case might be, that kind of mental determination that that is either a seeding point or right now there could be some heroic effort that's needed mentally and emotionally to persevere or stick something through that that's important, so that the moment of mental, intellectual or emotional determination.
Now, the other way that this word could be used is that you you determine something, I have determined, that you know, like a moment of incisive determination. This is what I'm going to do. This isn't what I'm going to do. I've determined that this will be the outcome.
I've determined that this will be the approach. So a moment of determination can focus us and propel us forward into something that requires some heroic staying power, some resilience emotionally, or it could be that we are resolved.
When a person says, Enough is enough, I'm determined not to stay in this relationship anymore. See that you're with it so that that watch for moments of very empowered determination. Number three words that hurt and words that heal, when these two planets come together, they can convey things that are powerful and true, but not necessarily nice or kind.
And I'm of the mindset that at least one of my life lessons with a Mercury Mars conjunction in my own chart has been that words that are both healing, kind, affirmative, true, encouraging, you know, and honest can be done.
It takes a little tact. It's not as easy or sometimes as fast as Mercury and Mars in my chart at least would like. But I think a challenge for us right now is to consider that honest doesn't have to mean blunt and cruel honesty, as well as tact and care.
That may be why Venus in Libra is ruling this new moon that comes in tomorrow, while in the bound of mercury, who's conjoining Mars? Can we say something difficult, deep, penetrating, true, revelatory shows something that has been hit.
We're showing our cards, but we're doing so in a way that's balanced and kind. I think it's possible that that happens right now, but either way, the exploration of words, ideas, thoughts that hurt versus heal, honest but in real, are important for this combination of planets, deep and profound and intense, not artificial, important for these planets.
But so too is the idea that the most penetrating, profound things can also be kind and supportive. This is why, by the way, these two planets in the bound of Jupiter moving into a Trine Jupiter, Jupiter in that maternal, nurturing sign of cancer, the Grand Water Trine coming up suggests that words that hurt, words that heal, thoughts, emotions, actions that have weight behind them can be healing and soft and sensitive, even if there's a great release that needs to happen somehow, and it the necessity of it might mean that it's not all easy, but healing can be a part of this.
That's the idea number four, an emotional excavation when Mercury and Mars get together, it's a bit like the kinds of moments that come up in therapy where you go, Oh, wow, I didn't realize that this memory was connected to this pattern.
Or I'm excavating a memory for the first time in a very long time, and I'm realizing how something affected me. So any kind of emotional excavation, getting to the bottom of things, emotionally bringing up things that haven't been fully processed, and giving them space to do so.
Emotional excavations, very common, very beautiful, part of this combination of planets this week. Finally, the Seleucia. Alchemically, we've been talking about that with a Grand Water Trine. This is a Mercury Mars conjunction that's moving straight into a Grand Water Trine.
The solution of so much water in alchemy is basically that hard or rigid things become soft. I would say that one of the benefits is that discovery, research, honesty, deep but necessary Converse. Conversations may actually profoundly soften us, open us, expand us, take away some rigidity.
There's, you know, I've had moments in I've been seeing a Jungian therapist for many years now, and I've had moments in therapy where I say things that are really difficult for me to say even to myself, and then as soon as I say them, I feel it's like, Why was I holding that? You know? That wasn't so bad.
And the the fear is actually worse than the release, you know? And so there's something about this moment that's leading the way for a big release, a big opening, very fertile space that can open up emotionally, but it may be about facing different kinds of fears or hesitations and the temptation to want to hold on in Scorpio that could be a little difficult, but maybe trusting, surrendering, having some kind of faith that the releasing, the processing is going to be healthy and Okay, all right, well, that is what I have for you.
Now I'm going to show you what is on my altar, and I'm going to do some or we're looking at the new moon tomorrow, some other fun stuff as the week comes up, as the week goes on. I mean, let's just take a look at here we go.
Let's get to the fixed signs. The Fixed sign. So if you're a Taurus, the conjunction of Mercury and Mars is happening in your house of relationships, marriage, love, interpersonal dynamics, a very powerful moment of breakthrough taking place there for Leo.
If you're a Leo rising, it's in the house of home and family. It's in the private, internal sphere of life around things like parents, ancestry, feelings of safety or privacy home, rootedness. If you are a Scorpio rising, it's happening in your first house.
It's coming through you. It's about your own mind, psychology, character. It's about how you speak and move through the world, and how you're growing and changing as a person right now. It's about your own emotions and feelings for Aquarians.
Last but not least, it's taking place in your career, house, these two planets coming together in the workplace or in terms of your public facing identity or vocation or role in the world, or conversations that are taking place in the work environment somehow.
So watch for those things. Now, last week, I had something on the altar that actually is on my altar again this week, because I am continuing to work on it, and that's not uncommon for my altar practice to actually have something that I work with more than once, and as much as I like to switch it up for you guys, I feel like you should also know that some weeks I work with the same thing that's right, my phone.
So it's has been part of my attempt to have better boundaries around my phone in the evenings with family and bedtime. Last week I was working on that. This week I'm working on that. So it's still part of what I'm working on right now, my altar, and it has felt really good and to have the little subtle reinforcement of putting it on the altar, thinking about it as something that I'm I'm trying to be a little bit better with.
You know, I think we can be better parents, better lovers, better friends, when we don't get so quickly, taken grabbed by our phones. I'm one. I work on my phone. I work on social media like I'm not condemning people on their phones.
I like to scroll and look at things and, you know, like everyone else, but I'm becoming more sensitive to bedtime, that routine and to evening time with the family. Um, so anyway, uh, on that note, I am really excited for the year one program you're going to hear about that next.
I think astrologers are monks who live in the city. If you learn the language of astrology, it's like you're you're taking time out to take a language that you love. It's actually helping you move like a monk through the city every day, sort of what it's doing, in my opinion, and it allows for that space to open, and for your kind of monastic existence as a citizen in the world to grow and increase in your conscious awareness of this language.
It changes everything when you take time to actually study and learn this, there's a lot of people who go through our programs and they experience rapid spiritual, personal transformation as they study something at such a deep, intentional level spiritually.
So anyway, I hope you'll stick around to hear more about it. That is it for today. Have a great day. Everybody. Bye.
