Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Happy Friday, everyone! Today we're going to take a look at Mercury opposing Saturn. This is one of the more challenging aspects that Mercury makes, and its ongoing movements through the sky. Mercury encounters Pluto and Uranus and Neptune. The Saturn contacts can be particularly intense.
We're going to start off today by telling you why that is the case. We looked at this a little bit yesterday as well. You could always go back and visit that video for a little bit more on the archetypal combination of Mercury and Saturn. But today horoscopes.
So we'll add a little bit more conversation and then take a look at your horoscopes sign by sign. We're going to be doing axes today, which means we'll take a look at the two opposing houses with two signs that go together across the house axis.
Before we get into it, as always, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments and reflections. It's really good to hear from all of you. Give us that little thumbs up. Subscribing is free. It really helps us. We're almost at 100,000 subscribers.
It's crazy that we're there. You can always find transcripts, like I said, on the website. That's nightlightastrology.com. Head over there right now. First piece of news is, hey, my book is out on Audible. So the Oracle Speaks is now available as an audio book.
If you want to pick it up through Audible, you can go to Audible or the through Amazon and pick it up. It's the Oracle Speaks, and you'll find it there. Really excited about that, and I know a lot of people prefer listening.
Like maybe while you're while you're walking the dogs, or on the treadmill, or in the car, whatever. So if you haven't yet read my book and you prefer the audio book version, check that out. Also, courses, first year course, Ancient astrology for the modern mystic.
It begins again on november 14. Early bird enrollment is open. Need-based tuition is available. If you'd like to come study with us in our program, you can choose within a sliding scale. If you're in need financially, that is the option for you.
We want to make sure that people aren't priced out. At the end of today's content, there's an informational video telling you all about the first year program. You can also find that there on the first year program page. But yeah, early bird sales available now.
Take advantage of that. Really excited for a new group of people to be studying. We are now an APAI certified program. It's a very prestigious, awesome organization. We're really proud to be one of the schools in the world that can offer the API certification.
So check that out. Yeah, what else? Readings. Book a reading. You can get my Oracle readings. This allows you to really do whatever you want. You fill out a form and you tell me exactly what you want me to look at, what subject, what topic in your chart.
What transits, or just you know I want to know when I'm going to meet someone next, or if you have specific questions, just fill it out there, and and there you go. If that is out of your price range, need based astrology readings are there for you.
Go to the events page and note that we have an annual retreat and an informational meeting coming up about our 2027 retreat, the Oracle Within. The early bird sale is coming to a close in early October. We have an informational meeting about the retreat on Sunday, september 27.
It's free. The Zoom link is there. You can come learn more about it. And then, finally, we also have what daily meditation. Meditation is free and every day at Nightlight. So come check it out. And the link to join is there as well.
All right, that's it for announcements today and promotions. Let's head over to Nicepso. Of course, this is our official astrology software program. The affiliate link, if you want 20% off perpetually, is in the comments or the description of the video.
Here we are. Here is Mercury opposite Saturn, and we have just a really powerful opposition in the works this weekend. Let me draw this first, so you can see Mercury opposite Saturn, Libra for Mercury, Saturn in Aries retrograding.
So we have interesting combination of planets at at play right now. Now, if we back this up just a little bit, you'll notice that the three degree range started Wednesday, september 16. The three degree range extends. Whoops, here we go, to about Sunday, september 20.
So it's a brief transit, but it's very powerful, and I think especially relevant since Mercury is in Venus's sign. Venus is moving into that, moving through that dynamic field with Pluto, and so we have a very powerful combination.
All right, let's. What we're going to do is we're going to take a look at this based on whole sign houses, so we're gonna put Aries up to start with, but we're gonna work through the sign dyads. So you can listen, for example, to this first horoscope if you're an Aries or a Libra, and then it'll be if you're a Taurus or a Scorpio. We're gonna talk about the exchange across that house axis in general, but before.
Before we do that, I want to start by talking just a little bit about Mercury and Saturn and what you can expect when they get together. Again, I highly recommend watching yesterday's video for a more thorough investigation of their archetypal symbolism and combination.
Briefly, when these two planets get together in an opposition, you typically have more serious moments of insight or mature, sober, heavy thoughts, thinking, and communication. You have themes like mental and intellectual gravitas. You have hard decisions, ultimatums, hard points of disagreement or negotiation, you often have inflection moments where it's like it's like a crossroads decision in your life.
Intense disagreements and the need to negotiate is a little bit even more apt for this combination because of Mercury's position in Libra and Saturn's position in Aries, where the potential to butt heads and seek some kind of negotiation in the midst of hard disagreement is front and center.
Now, as these two planets are moving through, I don't want people to think that you know everything's gonna. I don't know that any kind of impasse that you meet is an op is an obstacle that's like insurmountable. Usually, Mercury opposite Saturn will result in innovative thinking, problem solving, negotiating through difficulty. Everything is not lost. In other words, so don't freak out and give yourself some space and time to process carefully. We talked about this yesterday.
So, with all of that in mind, let's talk about what kinds of encounters you might be having right now, based on your horoscope. Your horoscope. Can I talk your your horoscope? And based on the whole sign houses of your birth chart.
Okay, so at least I think I'm funny. Aries and Libra. Now the reason that we're pairing these together is because across house dyads with oppositions, the tension becomes mirrored across both houses, and you and I mean this sincerely. You can truly get the same exact kinds of things happening for Aries rising or Libra risings in general. So we're going to talk about them in pairs like this today. So let's start with the Aries Libra pairing.
For Aries Libra, you're looking if you're an Aries Sun, Aries rising, Libra sun Libra rising, you're looking at the first and seventh house axis. This is dharma and kama. There's a part of each of us that has to perpetually figure out who am I, what is real, what is authentic about me. How am I evolving and maturing as a human being on a solo mission, right?
And then the seventh house has to do with the fact that all of us seek happiness in others in relationship, all of us need intimacy and deep interpersonal connection, or friendship, or love, sex, and marriage. All of us seek bliss socially and interpersonally.
So those two things can obviously butt heads because we just have the basic difference in priorities: self priority, other priority, or self priority relational priorities. And when oppositions occur across the first and seventh house, the tension will always be a self other tension, a negotiation of priorities or values, a negotiation of perspectives and needs, a negotiation of self and identity and other and diverse identity. Who is someone else? Who am I?
So, the Mercury Saturn opposition across this house axis can bring up inflection points in relationships where you have to make a hard choice about the future of the relationship.
This could be a moment where you're deciding to propose, as well as a moment where you're deciding to break up. It it can be it can go in either direction because so much of what Mercury and Saturn are working out when they get together across this house axis is the depth of commitment that we have in front of us, or that we feel we're capable of, or not.
The other thing that can happen is a clashing of values, needs, desires, willpower, and ideally, with Mercury in Libra, there's a real potential to negotiate and find places of compromise right now for Libra Aries, but it I think one of the things you have to be aware of is the potential to just put a bandaid on something. We don't want to put a bandaid on something that you know if there's real a real meeting of minds and hearts.
And real compromise, you know it because you leave changed by the other, and more a sense that there's more intimacy now. If you don't have that, and it's just like it almost feels like a transaction that's just been arranged so that the inherently selfish motivations of each person and the inherent resentment is just like kept at bay for a minute. That's not going to last.
Discernment is key to make sure that you're moving in the direction of real heart mind compromise versus something that's transactional that'll just come up again later. The other potential here is for any kind of ongoing negotiation to be front and center, because sometimes this access can bring up negotiations and things like business arrangements or you know purchase agreements or things like that.
Well, thinking about selfhood and relationships and an equal pressure on both right now. I'm evolving. I'm ching. I'm looking at myself. My relationships are somehow front and center, and those two things are in an intense moment of dialog. All right. So that's for Libra. That's for Aries. Let's move on to the Taurus Scorpio axis.
Now this could be for your Taurus rising, a Scorpio rising, Taurus sun, Scorpio sun, because we're using the basic same house dyad. And when an opposition is there, it's like two sides of the same coin. They can be flipped, and they're mirror images of each other that occur across the houses.
People always ask me, like, how would you read it if it was, you know, Libra in the 12th versus Saturn in the sixth, and the honest answer is not much different, because the two the two the mirroring capacity of the two houses and an opposition is so powerful that they act like like a yin yang. It's very they can move in and out of each other, and I promise you, you'll find the almost exact same delineations happening across the house axes, so that's I think a good way to approach it for horoscopes again. Why we're doing it, but here let's go into sixth house, 12th house dynamics.
Sixth house, 12th house dynamics can be about the kinds of conversations that we are having, with with let's say the kinds of conversations that we are having that are triggering us to become more aware of unconscious motivations that we have or that other people have. The 12th house is an unconscious space that we can't always see very clearly. It's a space that represents unconscious personal material that we are meant to be liberated from.
12th house transits are absolutely fantastic for, you know, kind of kind of decluttering those psychic those sort of dark psychic basements. There's like all sorts of boxes down there, you know, and it's like going down there with a flashlight and pulling things out, sorting through them. You've got like shamanic Marie Kondo with you. You know, she's like, she's got her lightsaber of joy and simplicity. She's like, let's pull some demons out of here.
Well, if you're doing that through conversations at work, conversations in the workplace, conversations with people that you hire or you know are in charge of at work, or if you're having conversations with people that are a little bit more contentious or competitive or driven by differing needs, and the question of what I think is worthwhile, kind of what I stand for, what I fight for, what I sacrifice for, and maybe what somebody else does or doesn't sacrifice for.
Like the sixth house was called the joy of Mars, and Libra in the sixth can have a lot to do with the the kinds of concerns we have. That you know, there's like a bit of an activist in all of us. There's real activists who that's their career, that's how they identify, and then there's a lot of people who are active about a few things that are really important, but maybe not. It doesn't mean just politically active, but the things that you really care about that kind of light you on fire, that you have strong convictions about, and that you're you're willing to spar with other people about a little bit, like debate what is really valuable, what is really worth trying to improve about the human condition or about planet Earth or something like that.
A lot of sixth house transits will be about the things that we think are worth fighting for, that we think is worth the effort, the toil, the labor, the sacrifice, the service. Where there are differing views, there might be some point of mutual accord that can happen, but it it requires diplomacy and tact. It requires being able to see what is unconscious or hidden in the dynamic, what is undermining or maybe unhealthy within an environment, a relationship, a conversation, a point of view, and it also requires being being willing to sacrifice or compromise for what you believe in, but not so unyieldingly that you can't see or hear other perspectives, or see maybe your own blind spots in the process.
So keep all of that in mind, because if you are a Taurus or Scorpio rising, these kinds of dialogs and unconscious spots are coming up. It's a little bit like sitting down with your nemesis and hearing them talk about what they think your blind spot is, but then also being given a turn to tell them about what you perceive their blind spot to be, and ideally coming to deeper understanding. Now, this nemesis could be within yourself, or it could be external to you, could be in some other kind of interesting negotiation or conversation. So keep all of that in mind.
All right, let's go on to Gemini and Sagittarius. With this house axis, we're we're now moving Mercury and Saturn into the fifth and 11th houses. We've got a Dharma house in the fifth, a Kama house in the 11th. Mercury and Saturn across these houses are talking about creative individuation and social participation. The ever-present concern for the 11th house is: where do I fit in socially? Where do I find joy, happiness, accomplishment, validation out in the world, and in the fifth house, it is what is true to me, unique to me. What are my talents and creative gifts, and what what brings me creative fulfillment and joy?
So the two coming into conversation might bring up for Gemini or Sagittarius could bring up questions about what you are feeling most naturally and authentically pulled toward creatively, or what you feel is blocking or limiting you creatively, and what kinds of social groups or visions of happiness or belonging you have that are or are not in line with who you are creatively. This can also be about where your creations fit in and where they don't, where your children fit in and where they don't, where if you wrote a book, what kind of audience will like it and what kind may not understand it. The question is about creative reception in the world. Am I being received in my, you know, in the light of my creative essence? Am I in my creative essence, or is this group, community, social network, professional setting not conducive to me feeling like I can be myself?
Sometimes we put too much on the fifth, like the you have to be like some kind of successful performer or artist or on a stage or in the spotlight, but what we're talking about when we get down to it with creative dharma in the fifth house is nothing more than that feeling that you're acting from a creative, alive place in you that feels authentic.
You know what it's like when you go out with friends and you just feel alive and very comfortable and happy in yourself, in the way you're being, in the way you're acting, in the thoughts that you're sharing, in the way you're responding, and the laughter you're finding, in the funny insights and jokes you tell. That's it. It's just being alive and joy in your essence. Some people that means you know instruments and dance, and it means making a book for other people-it's as simple as feeling alive and happy in your own skin. But how easy is it to do that when negotiating that treacherous territory of social inclusion versus exclusion? Big social or professional goals, networks, groups of people that you want to participate with or belong to or achieve something alongside of that's not easy because then we're looking at the intersection between creativity and potentially like alienation. So you're navigating this, and there's a point of decision or negotiation or a point of departure that's coming up right now, so that's for our Gemini's and Sagittarians.
All right, let's go on to Cancer and Capricorn. If you're a Cancer Capricorn, either way, you've got Mercury in the fourth and Saturn in the 10th. This is the private sphere versus the public sphere. Let's put it this way: most of us in a day and age that's very performative, that's very social media driven, right? We're we're very much in the 10th house. Ironically, a lot of that 10th house ends up feeling, you know, like a big social dance or performance, and then in private, we. Someone very different, and I think one of the reasons that sometimes now more than ever we're seeing like I don't know people I don't know people getting like called out, but really in a way what's what's happening is that we're all noticing that the distinction between who we are privately and publicly is a real thing, you know. In some ways, that's all we're really saying is, "Hey, there's something about all of us being in the public eye that enhances the dichotomy or duality between who we are publicly and privately, and it's inconsistent. Well, yeah, it and it always has been, you know, and it always will be because the social arena is a far less stable place for your idiosyncrasies. Small groups of people, intimate relationships, families or small groups that you belong to, little communities that you belong to. Those are the spaces where your private self is a little bit freer and safer to emerge. But the public, by its very nature, is a little bit more stressful because you have the potential for a lot of different kinds of people with a lot of different kinds of values and judgments, and therefore you have to navigate that a little bit more sensitively to be safe. So there is an element of very natural performance in the 10th house. There's a very natural element of sort of hidden secrecy or privacy in the fourth house. When those two things are healthy within us, right? When the private and the public have a healthy relationship, then we can live with the difference. But when they're way out of whack, that's when we reach moments like this kind of opposition, where the the gross difference between public and private just becomes overwhelming, and we go, oh my God, I need more of a private life. I need more of my private life to be mirrored in my public life. I need my public life to take it down a few notches so that I have some rest and refuge, or I need to bring some of what's inside of me out into the world a little bit more forwardly. But the dialog here is very psychological. It's between a forward-facing and an inward-facing part of ourselves. It might literally be about conversations between things happening in your home family, the privacy of of your family history or your extended family or something like that, or your living environment and your workplace, and the two might be in dialog because you're working too much or because you're not working enough or whatever the case might be. So watch for things to constellate around that axis.
All right, we're going to Leo and Aquarius next, and this places our two planets in the third and ninth houses.
So across this house axis, we have God and goddess. That's what these houses were called. Joy of the sun called God in the ninth. Joy of the moon called goddess in the third. For each of us, there is something like an objective set of truths about reality, about the universe, morality, our our political inclinations, or whatever the case might be, and the third house, which is a subjective personal orientation. It's our opinions, it's our ideas, it's our thoughts, it's our psychology, it's our sense of humor. So in the ninth house, you're learning about the truths of physics or the dogmas of the Catholic Church or the core tenets of Buddhism. That's like ninth house material, the third house is a bit more like, what do I think and feel? What's the poem I'm writing today? You know, or what are the skills that I'm developing right now that are natural to my own psychology? And so there's an intersection between these two houses because they both include psychology, the mind, and learning, but one is very, very personal, intimate, and subjective, and the other tends to be a little bit more objective, big picture, universal. When dialog is happening through an opposition across these houses, we are encountering edges within our own psychology and systems or paradigms that we find ourselves in or confronting. This is where you realize that the way you think may not fall exactly in line with some political group or some religious community or some educational, maybe like the the the department that you are studying in in graduate school or something like that, you go. Oh, I'm just the English department's a little different than I am. Whatever, whatever you might be dealing with, the idea though is that you have this ability right now to negotiate your own thoughts, your own experiences, your own ideas, your own subjective center of experience. With you, you can compare and contrast that with systems of truth that present themselves as more authoritative, or more overarching, or more objective, or more universal, and you can say, "Yeah, I don't really fit in with that. And here's how I'm going to shift my participation or my orientation philosophically, morally, whatever the case might be. On the other hand, this might be a point of disagreement intellectually or or philosophically. You may come to a place of negotiation or meaningful discourse with people who have differing views or ideas. In my humble opinion, there is a lot of dogma in the like all political groups have within them a section of people who care more about being right than they do about communicating their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with care and sensitivity. It's just as soon as we start going, I'm right and you're wrong. I'm the enlightened one. You know, you're the unenlightened one. That creates, that closes the dialog. Right? It just shuts the dialog down. One of the one of the, I think, hallmarks of true open mindedness is not the lack of conviction about your own beliefs or values on any level, politically, religiously, intellectually, in some discipline like astrology. I have my little soapboxes, right? But I've learned over time, and I keep learning over time, that that the best way to carry those beliefs I have, for example, as an astrologer, is with increasing sensitivity, care, and tact about the people who probably belong to some other, you know, group of thinking about the subject. How can I really deeply and honestly and authentically respect people who don't see things the way that I do, and still gently and but firmly convey what I think. This is a third house, ninth house dynamic is the point. And I was born with the sun moon opposition across this axis, so lifelong learning in this department for me. I have some. I'm someone who's gone through many seasons of being quite intense about things. I believe and learning to perpetually soften them, and not lose my orientation, but soften how I hold it. I think a lot of third house, ninth house oppositions work just like that. So watch for these things if you're a Leo or an Aquarius, because these are the houses that the opposition is taking place across.
All right, finally we've got Virgo, Pisces. If you're a Virgo Sun arising or a Pisces Sun arising, we've got the second and eighth houses.
Now these houses were both called the idle places or the gates of Hades. The reason for that is that by primary motion, the eighth sign is setting next, and the second sign is rising next. Therefore, we have sinking into the underworld and rising out of the underworld the gates of Hades. But when we're rising out of the underworld, we're moving up into the first house. So we're talking about that which comes from within and reaches up to support the native. It is the resources that come up through us and into us to support us. It could be anyone or anything that supports you, money is included here for that reason, and the eighth house is anything that bears you down, debts, obligations, penalties, obligations that you have to other people that become burdensome, but also you're obligated to it karmically, and it could very well be an act of of service or love to help bear other people's loads, just like people and things support us in the second, we are the support for others in the eighth. And there's questions of reciprocity that happen across this house axis. As a result, we have people looking at that eighth house, in terms of inheritance and the spouse's money, and joint or shared assets or resources, obligations, taxes, debts, penalties. But the essential question across this house axis becomes: What am I giving, and what am I receiving? What do I provide, and what am I provided with? Where do I care and give, and where am I cared for and given to? And ideally, we want again fair, mutual, beneficial exchanges that are not just material but also spiritual, emotional, and psychological. So there's a really intense moment right now for Virgo Pisces of examining that back and forth, is this supportive? Is this mutually helpful? Is there reciprocity here? Do I give as much as I take? Do I receive as much as I give? What negotiations or contracts or agreements are being looked at, revised, or reworked? How are things like money, income, and debt being addressed right now? So, negotiations and contracts can come up. I think another question here is about what do I owe? There's a feeling that we all have that like, and it doesn't even have to be in a. Sometimes what we owe is a bummer, like a bill or a tax bill or something like that, or the feeling that like I'm I'm obligated to someone because they helped me, and so I really feel like I ought to help them. But it's it's like man, I just don't have the time, or I really don't feel particularly aligned, or but you gotta, you know, you gotta return the favor, and this we know everybody knows what this is about. So those kinds of dynamics can be educational because when we have to pay things back and clear debts, they also typically teach us about in the future what kinds of exchanges are really beneficial and which we end up feeling yucky about. And it's a good time to reflect on that for Virgos or Pisces. That takes us all the way through the zodiac. We've gotten through. I hope that this has been useful for you and a good way of reflecting on where we're at in all these cycles. My office. It's a little sad. It's like the house is getting ready to be shown to people in the next week. I'm really excited though. I've got a cool vision for the next YouTube studio. I've I've like really been putting a lot of time and thought into it. And see, I've always gotten stuck in like random rooms in houses because I want to make sure that my wife and girls like have whatever rooms they want, and I'm like, just throw me in a room. I'll paint it purple, you know. I'll paint it blue. You guys remember my old room? It was blue. Slap a Narnia poster on the ward. You know, on the on the closet behind me. I've always just in some corner, and I like it that way. I don't mind it at all, but in this house there's an actual room, like what would be like a guest room that has high ceilings and a wall space that's like a blank canvas. And I'm so excited.
I've got lots of ideas, but I am telling you in advance that it's going to be a couple of months of me probably recording either here in a relatively empty house. That TV might go down. I don't know, but it's going to look a little sparse. My audio might be a little less like the acoustics are like everything's out of the room, so my acoustics may not. I don't know sound as good, but stick with me because my YouTube Studio version. Let's see one, two. Is it 212 3.0? This is my third, so it'll be 4.0. YouTube Studio 4.0 is gonna rock. It's gonna be so cool. Anyway, next I'm gonna tell you about the year one program. Stick around to learn more. I hope you have a fantastic weekend. We'll see you again next time.
