What if the most practical step forward begins with a deep, intentional look back? This weekend’s New Moon arrives in the final degrees of Capricorn, not as a loud fanfare, but as a quiet, earth-born threshold. It speaks of completions that feel like cleared spaces—rooms emptied of old furniture, awaiting a new purpose. Alongside it, Mercury and Mars meet, trining Uranus in Taurus, offering a sober clarity and the quiet authority to build what endures.

Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Happy Friday, everybody. Today, we're going to take a look at the New Moon in Capricorn that's coming through this weekend. In addition to that, we're going to look at several trines that are being formed from planets in late Capricorn to Uranus in the late degrees of Taurus.
So this is par for the course. This week, we've been looking at Venus trine Uranus and the sun trine Uranus. We're going to continue that by looking at the upcoming conjunction between Mercury and Mars in late Capricorn. This weekend, both planets will be conjunct and moving through that trine to Uranus in Taurus, while the New Moon in Capricorn forms just a couple degrees off and also makes the trine to Uranus in Taurus.
So I will show you all of this on the real time clock. We'll map it all out, and then I've got a list of my handy dandy five things to watch for. So that's our agenda for today.
Heading into the weekend, remember to like and subscribe. It helps us a ton. If you watch regularly, but you're not yet subscribed. We grow as a business, as a community, when people take two seconds to do that. So really, deeply appreciate it.
You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on the website, which is Nightlight astrology.com. Head over there, a couple things to turn you on to. If you've never gotten a reading with us before, we have need-based astrology readings, which means there's tiered pricing to match your budget, so that people of different, you know, financial backgrounds and situations are not priced out of getting astrological service. And that gives our graduates a chance to read for other people too. So check that out.
Also go to the events page. Click on speaker series. You're going to see that at the end of this month, there's a free speaker series. You can check that tab quarterly. We always have three speakers per quarter. They're absolutely free, sponsored by the Kickstarter. And you know, our speakers are some of the best in the industry. So check these talks out. They're free. You get the recording if you can't attend live.
Go to the events page and click on live talks, and you'll see that my webinar for the month on the 10th house and the floating degree of the midheaven, a very powerful topic in ancient astrology, is coming up on January 22. When you register, you'll get the link to attend the live webinar. The recording, of course, comes along with it if you can't get there live.
Check out Silent Sundays. Our immersive retreat in June is not full yet. Lots of good stuff to check out on the website.
The other thing I'll mention is our guild membership starts this month. The master class on the decans starts today. If you want to join us for a year-long adventure through the decans of the zodiac. That is a deep story that's told within the substructure of the zodiac, really worth learning about if you like astrology, like stories through the zodiac and the signs. And of course, our year three courses also starting this month, so lots of good things here at Nightlight. Thank you for giving me a second to plug them.
Let's turn over to the real time clock. Okay, so looking at the real time clock, I have fast-forwarded this to Sunday. This is around noon, between noon and like two o'clock central time that the New Moon is forming in Capricorn, it's just a degree off from a trine to Uranus in Taurus. Of course, these planets are also making little sextiles to Saturn and Neptune in Pisces.
I find that the sextiles are a little harder to capture, but you may notice subtle vibrations of Pisces energy in the mix this weekend as well. And then notice that Mercury and Mars are also conjoining between Saturday and Sunday, the 17th and 18th, in late Capricorn. And what are they doing? They're also trining Uranus in Taurus.
It's a really interesting signature for a new moon to be forming in the late degrees of signs. It's been doing this for a while, one new moon after another, and this is the new moon; the next new moon we'll receive after this will be taking us into eclipse season again. It's hard to believe eclipse season is almost here.
But these late degree new moons are powerful in their own right, because they bring culmination. Culmination means they tend to point toward the end of a process. A new moon coming at the end of the process is often like that feeling you get when you've cleared out a room full of old furniture and it's sitting there. It needs vacuuming. It needs new furniture, but you're not sure what you're going to put in it yet.
So there's a feeling of clearing things out with this new moon and starting to put in something new in its place. But every New Moon is a new beginning, but it's really marked by the feeling of completion when it is happening in those late degrees of signs. What to speak of the fact that we then have all of these planets in late Capricorn, trining Uranus in late Taurus.
So that makes for some really interesting astrology over the weekend. We've been experiencing it the past couple of days. You can find more insights on the channel about some of those trines to Uranus over the past couple of days that I've already done. Today, we're just going to add to that with a list of five things to watch for that have to do with the unique signature of this new moon in Cap, the New Moon in Cap trining Uranus with Mercury and Mars conjoining in late Cap, also trining Uranus.
So I've tried to consolidate those into some themes that can represent the congregation that's taking place here, all sort of participating in the same dynamic.
Alright. Well, number one I have is just strengthening foundations. These are earth signs. These are earth signs that at the end of a long process will often bring a kind of evaluation to something. And the way that a new moon gets started in late Capricorn with the trine to Uranus in Taurus might be to say, well, we're at the end of a process, and what it's revealed is that the foundation needs to be stronger.
Now, I can't help but access metaphors from my personal hobbies like playing music, learning guitar or bodybuilding, which are primarily the things I like to do outside of work and family, right? Well, in bodybuilding, I remember hitting this distinct point. And it was very, it was taking place, by the way, this distinct point while Pluto was at the 29th degree of Capricorn in a very similar space, which has some resonance in my own chart or whatever.
But anyway, and my coach said, we need to build you a stronger foundation. And I was like, well, I don't know what that means in bodybuilding terms. But he said, we need to do a complete... I had already put on some muscle. I had been a year or two into it at this point, I was, I think it was two years into bodybuilding, and I got a new coach, and the new coach said, we need to strip you down to the foundation and build up from the foundation again.
This is called a body recomposition. And I was like, well, I've built all this muscle. I'm going to lose it. He's like, you'll lose a little bit. But mostly what we're doing is we're... you can think about it like, if you have a big block of clay, you're sort of smoothing it out and cutting off a bunch of excess and getting it into a space that you can then start creating your work of art from. That was how he explained it to me.
And I was thinking about that image when I wrote today's list of five things to watch for, because these planets in late Cap, trining Uranus in late Taurus, may deliver this kind of concluding insight, that something's working, but you need to strip it back and get a stronger foundation underneath it, and then it could be even more effective going forward.
Let's say, for example, that you're, you know, you've got pretty good health, but you realize that doing a cleanse... a lot of people have this realization doing some kind of dietary cleanse, and I'm not for extreme dietary cleanses. I think they often create yo-yo effects that aren't so healthy, but a gentle, modest cleanse that is something that often can lead you to the good dietary habits that you have being even more effective because you've taken some time to purge and cleanse and strengthen the foundation that the already healthy habits are operating in.
Similarly, have you ever deep cleaned a room in your house before? Like, if you, if you're like, everything in this room is, like, you know, pretty organized, but you can feel that deep beneath it, like the carpets need a good steam clean, you know, you need to maybe even repaint, just put a new coat of paint on the walls. You need to get, you know, a toothbrush around some gunky stuff, because you've got kids.
But when you do that deep clean, the organization in the room was already, you know, nice, like even I'm thinking of my office here, like it's pretty organized, but I'm about to do a deep clean on my closets. It's one of my New Year's resolutions. I'm going to do a deep clean. I already have a pretty good organizational system in there. But occasionally it's like you just need to get everything out, you need to purge everything out, get down to the roots, clear the foundation, stabilize it, strengthen it, and then build up again.
This is that kind of new moon. So that's the first one on my list, anything that can make your life more sustainable in the long term, that may cause you to have to temporarily go back and revise something and then build up again. I could see that making a lot of sense for the Mercury-Mars in Capricorn. These are all late degree Capricorns. The New Moon in Capricorn, but late degrees.
So just another way of thinking about it, two would be... I put it as I wrote it out, as clear decisions, quiet authority. Now, when Mercury and Mars are paired in Cap, just behind this new moon, like two degrees off from it, there is, first of all, you have decisive thinking, executive thinking, alongside of the will to enact something, and it's very practical and earthy in Capricorn.
And that trine to Uranus suggests the confidence to think in strong executive terms and to move forward boldly, sort of regardless of what anyone might think of you. It sounds funny to call it clear decisions, quiet authority, but the trine is sort of like saying you don't need anyone's permission. Just go do it. You've got the clarity, you've got the thought, you've got the plan, unless you're going to, like, really harm someone or, you know, like, really burn a bridge.
Like you don't need anyone's permission. The rebellious, defiant Uranus here isn't a loud one that's like creating power struggles as much as it is giving you the confidence to just go and do it. Just go. So a clear, sober decision that just feels like it's overdue and now, now go. That's the Uranus.
Also, if there's conversations that can help you cut through some degree of confusion or ambiguity, establish boundaries, plan next steps, and you have to do it with other people, but someone just needs to bring the conversation up and then, wow, it's easier than we thought it would be to have this conversation. Any kind of decisive action rooted in time, experience, wisdom, maturity, that now finds the time to move boldly.
These are the kinds of clear, quiet, earthy, practical, incisive moments that you can act boldly from. So watch for that energy for sure over the weekend.
Now, number three on my list is releasing what duty no longer requires. Late Capricorn often brings things to completion, especially very earthy things. And Uranus loves liberation and release, but often again, in ways that are very grounded and practical. And so this may be a good time to let go of certain roles that you've played, expectations that you've set up for yourself, or that you've felt obligated to, a professional identity that's just no longer a match.
There can be this kind of subtle but strong refusal to continue being responsible for things that don't serve a long term plan or goal. There can also be just a redefining of duties, obligations, structures, disciplines that are more closely aligned with what makes you feel good or what you want in the long run.
So consider those things right now, very strong signatures for this new moon. I feel like this New Moon is sort of like laying the plans out. Like you've ever seen, I think it's the three of pentacles shows some people like laying some plans out in what looks like a cathedral or a church, and they're sort of like talking things over.
This is a good moment for being like, where are we going? What are we doing here? And getting clear about the vision, the project, the blueprints that we will actually build into some structure or form. Really good to do that right now.
I put the next one as redefining safety and risk. Might sound a little strange, but Capricorn and Taurus are two earth signs that care a lot about safety, sustainability, and they're very cautious signs that like to preserve things, that like to build things, and that like things to be stable or sturdy or reliable.
And so this is a good time to just sort of re-evaluate what is sustainable, what's reliable, what's trustworthy. It's like it's weird, because it's kind of a cautious combination of planets that value making sure that something's going to work and that something's going to stick. And so, you know, Uranus loves to take risks.
Capricorn likes to build things and take risks if there's a plan and a path to seeing it actually work, if there's a time-tested way of achieving something. So calculated risks right now that feel safe because you have a clear way of how you're going to do it, that can create a kind of breakthrough in an excitement around a new moon like this.
New strategies, new rhythms, new material patterns or habits that may reduce stress or make something easier to achieve. And also any way in which you've been in a holding pattern in the process of building something.
Let me give you an example. There are two things that come to my mind. One, in writing a book. In my life right now, I'm finishing the editing of a book and pre-drafting the next book. I'm in a book-writing phase of life. I guess that sense of holding on and finishing one thing while something else is just like raring to go, that can be a tension that has to be held in this cycle.
And the cycle may actually straddle the line between finishing old projects and getting really, you know, ramped up about something new. Holding on, building forward, those two tensions are coinciding in a way this cycle that could actually be really satisfying. It's like, yes, there's something left over that has to be wrapped up and finished, but then as soon as you do, it's off to the races with the thing that maybe you've been already developing and seeing for a while now, finally.
It's closely related to just a future plan, a future vision, a future timeline that's now set in motion. New Moons are like thresholds that introduce new karma chapters. There's many, like life is nothing but the constant changing and unfolding of karma patterns. So Astrology can feel redundant, because we're always talking about change, and change is constant, right?
So we have to be careful that we don't dramatize every new beginning and every ending is a new beginning. And this is why Buddhists say there is really no birth and death. There's just change. But a new moon in a late degree is like a threshold, and it's about consequential beginnings that are very practical and that will take tending to and developing incrementally, like that goat climbing the mountain, and that need to be sustained carefully.
The revolutionary act of Uranus in Taurus is about building something solid and beautiful and enduring. And that's a kind of revolution that Uranus in Taurus provides. Again, for me in my first house, I think so much about my health and my body and how that's become an emphasis. The radical thing has been about a shift in terms of the solidness and the health and enjoyment of my own physical nature.
That's so Uranus in Taurus. But see how that carries with the new moon in late Capricorn, where, you know, what are you building in the very early stages that will require patience, discipline, trust and incremental progress, and it's going to take a while. So a new moon like this, even though it's a whole moon cycle to come built around these themes we're talking about, themes that are going to carry over for several more months as Uranus completes its last degrees of Taurus, for example.
So pay attention to that whole sign house of Capricorn in your birth chart. That is just, you know, absolutely vital here. What I'll do for you guys is, I'll just flip up on the... let's just go through the houses really quick. These aren't going to be horoscopes. There's going to be kind of like reminders. Oops. Here we go.
So you want to think about, you know, if you're an Aries rising, this is your 10th house of career. You know, if you're a Taurus rising, this is the ninth house of religion, higher philosophy, beliefs, things like publishing. If you're a Gemini rising, the eighth house. Think about soul contracts and deep exchanges of power and resources with other people.
With Cancer, it's the seventh house of love, marriage and relationships. With Leo, it's the sixth house of work, sacrifice, service and effort. For Virgos, it's the fifth house of creativity. For Libras, it's the fourth house of home and family, roots and foundations. For Scorpios, think about this in the third house of mind, communication, speech, siblings.
For Sagittarians, think about this in the house of money, resources, acquisitions, income and expenditures. For Capricorns, think about it as identity, body, health, psychology. For Aquarians, think about this as the 12th house, that unconscious blind spot, that sense of otherworldliness, or awareness of the impermanence and suffering and collective compassion.
And for Pisceans, the 11th house of friends, groups, networks of people, allies, communities. So just a little brief reminder there for you, because I'm so nice.
And I will... I'm glad to tell you guys that I have been... see, I record these the week in advance. So this is my first week in January back from winter break and Kickstarter. And finally, today is the first day that I have felt like my energy feels like me. And you guys may not notice, I think I put on a pretty good face when I do my podcast sick, but it's so nice not to have to.
So I'm excited because next week you're going to see me with more energy and more creative zest, let's say. But anyway, I think we had a good week of exploring a lot of good transits. There's more content over the weekend to come.
As always, don't forget today you can join us for that Master Class series on the decans. Going to be an awesome adventure. You don't have to have any other classes at Nightlight under your belt to join us for a master class, you just have to have an awareness of what the decans are, maybe an awareness a little bit of Hellenistic astrology.
So if you have a background in those things, master classes you can always join us for and I hope to see some of you there. And again, check out the speaker series, all the other good events coming up this month. Hope you're having a good day. You'll have a great weekend. Talk to you later. Bye, bye.
