What happens when the Moon moves through one of the most emotionally intense signs of the zodiac and activates a rare opposition between two of the heaviest planets in the sky? You're about to find out. In this video, we're looking at the Moon in Scorpio as it triggers the Jupiter-Pluto opposition—a transit that doesn't just pass by but lingers, deepens, and reveals what's been hidden beneath the surface of your life.
This is one of those moments where the astrology doesn't simply describe your day—it weaves itself into your experience, asking you to pay attention to the places where transformation is already underway. The Moon in Scorpio brings everything to the surface: what you've been avoiding, what you've been protecting, and what's ready to be released. And with Jupiter and Pluto standing opposite one another, the stakes feel higher, the truths more undeniable, and the potential for real change more present than it has been in a long time.
If you've been sensing that something is shifting beneath the surface, this video will help you understand why. We'll explore what the Jupiter-Pluto opposition means for the week ahead, how the Scorpio Moon is forcing issues to a head, and what you can do to work with these forces rather than against them. This is the astrology of the heart, the psyche, and the soul—and it's asking something real of you.

Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Today we're going to take a look at the Moon in Scorpio triggering the Jupiter-Pluto opposition. It's a first quarter moon, just coming off a first quarter moon. The Moon is in one of the more difficult spaces as the Moon goes in the sign of Scorpio, and creating a T-square between Jupiter and Pluto today. This is, I think, a really important dynamic.
Yesterday we looked at the Jupiter-Pluto opposition, but it lasts for a while. I'm going to show you why today's Moon aspects may be more than your usual daily lunar aspects, and hopefully this will be useful for you not only for tracking the transit of the day, but also if you're a student of astrology, hopefully you'll learn maybe a few new things about lunar tracking. So that's what we're going to do.
Before we get into it, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments, your reflections. It helps us tremendously if you click subscribe. If you're not yet subscribed, it's free, takes two seconds. Give us that little thumbs up as well. We appreciate it. Helps us grow and sustain what we do. Transcripts can be found on the website every single day. That's nightlightastrology.com.
When you head over there this Thursday night, I'm giving a webinar. Go to the monthly webinars tab under events, and you'll see my talk this Thursday night: the dark side of astrology, malefics, eclipses, and retrogrades, talking about what makes these transits legitimately difficult, but also what is the unique healing potential within each of these different types of transits?
We're going to look at things like Mars, Saturn, Pluto, Uranus, eclipses, difficult retrogrades. Why are they difficult? Rather than just generically calling them difficult, and then what can we learn from them? What do each of them specifically tend to bring to our life? So you can register there. You get the recording either way. So if you can't make it live, you'll get that. And yeah, hope to see you there.
It's Thursday night. You can register there on the events page. Go to the events page, and I also want you to click on Community Quiet. Every single day at Nightlight, we have free meditation. You can join us seven days a week. Everything you need to know is on that page, come sit with us. It's really nice to have a sacred meditation practice, and to do it in community is really special.
We also have now kind of group sharing and a little bit of holding space for processing and sharing our inner life within the meditation practice every Sunday. We call that Silent Sundays. Go to the events page, or excuse me, go to the shop page. Click on my books. You'll see my book, The Oracle Speaks, is out. There'll be an Audible version coming out later this summer. Stay tuned for that.
Can't wait to share that with you. And thanks to everybody for giving me a good review. If you like the book, a good review on Amazon really helps. And it's been nice to hear your feedback. I'm glad that people are enjoying it. And I'm getting started on another one soon, so I'll be back to work writing again shortly here.
Anyway, all right, let's put Nachepso up on the screen. You know this is our affiliate software program. You want to get a 20% off discount on your subscription to Nachepso. It's in the comments section or the description of the video. All right, so you can see on the screen today we are still here. We are Tuesday, July 21st, and we are still very much in the midst of Pluto opposite Jupiter.
Now this dynamic is going to be playing out for quite some time, and let me show you why. Not only are the two planets still opposed by exact degree, if not by minute, but today we have the Moon in Scorpio activating the opposition through a T square with the Moon in the sign of its depression or fall in the sign of Scorpio, a little bit more intense place for the Moon. We are talking about a very powerful activation now.
What the transiting Moon tends to do when two planets are squaring or opposing like this, is the moon tends to kind of amplify and increase the intensity of the event, and especially when the moon is at an important phaseal dynamic like a full moon or a new moon. We've got a lot of that this cycle, so if we go back just a few hours, you can see that today early in the morning, July 20, Tuesday, July 21, we also have the moon in last in first quarter.
Excuse me, with the sun in Cancer. Now, as the day goes on, we're getting close to an anaretic sun, which means the sun's going out to the last degree of Cancer, just after a first quarter moon. And let's say the moon is going to be squaring Jupiter and Pluto between this is about 5 o'clock my time Central Time USA, and let's give it a couple of degrees of separation. Let's call it three degrees of separation. That takes us to about 11 o'clock tonight.
So this afternoon into this evening is really a period of time where the ramifications of the Jupiter-Pluto opposition are ripening. The fruit is heavy and falling off the tree, so to speak. I think what also makes this an important note is that the transit itself goes on for a while with more lunar components to come. If we take this forward to the full moon, and I'm just going to increase this by a couple of degrees.
We'll see here that the full moon, which is taking place on Wednesday, July 29th, that's next week. But we have that full moon taking place at almost the exact hour of a Jupiter Sun Cazimi, that Jupiter Sun Cazimi is opposite Pluto, and the full moon is conjoined Pluto. That's just within about two degrees. So, if the first quarter moon today is activating, imagine what the full moon is doing. Right, this is a very powerful full moon. I think it's the biggest full moon of the year. I don't think I'm alone in thinking. You know, many other astrologers I believe probably feel the same way.
So the reason that I wanted to mention all of this today is for context. You know, we talked about Jupiter opposite Pluto and did some horoscopes yesterday, but the truth is, you're going to be feeling this dynamic for about the entirety of the next week, probably about two weeks, given the power of that full moon. And this is one of the most intense windows of the year.
So today, in particular, is intense because the Scorpio moon is activating the T square, a first quarter moon, an anaretic sun. The sun's going to change sign boundaries and start burning up Jupiter through its combustion. Once it's in the same sign, that will really intensify, and then we have a full moon with the Jupiter Cazimi, the reset. But if there is some kind of death and rebirth happening for Jupiter right now, it is definitely taking place now and in the next week.
Jupiter, in particular, getting the opposition from Pluto, the combustion, the reset, the square today. A lot of pressure on Jupiter in Leo. I think particularly of the fate of Leonic Jupiterian solar figures, fathers, leaders, CEOs, kings, queens, celebrities-those are very Jupiter and Leo-like images. But honestly, for each one of us inside, there's a little throne that we sit on, a little throne and a little king or queen, or a little empress or whatever it is-a place of a seated place of importance and dignity and pride and specialness.
Each one of us has that sun card from the tarot, the child, the inner child. I remember there was like when I was a kid, there was some movie. I'm gonna forget the name of it, but it was like about a little Bodhisattva, a little child that was like the next Buddha or something. I'm forgetting the name of this movie, but it is a little bit like that. Image comes to my mind of like a child that is radiant and wise. It's an archetype that we all know.
I mean, it would be probably naive of us to say that the point is to just be like a child in some literal sense, but it's not surprising that even Christ said, you know, let remember when he says let the children come to me, he intimates that they know more about the kingdom of Heaven than adults may, and that's a teaching that's famous within the Christian tradition, but it's been said all over the world. And if you only have to be a parent for a few days of your life with like a four or five year old to recognize how wise and innocent and sincere and open hearted children can be.
That's not to be so literal, but I think that the innocent part of us might be going through a death. It's never easy when there's a part of the inner child that has to relinquish something in order to grow up. But in that growing up, the most special kinds of growing up, we will still retain the child. The archetype doesn't leave; it just changes shape somehow. So anyway, these are just some sprawling, kind of sprawling thoughts here.
But I have a list of five things to watch for today, given the intensity of this moon in Scorpio and its activation of the Jupiter-Pluto dynamic. So, by the way, I am recording this today. I record these a week in advance, and it happens to be my birthday today. You all actually are listening to this. You said happy birthday to me last week. I'm in the time loop, but anyway, the reason that I'm mentioning that is because my time is a little bit limited today because I'm trying to have a good day, so this will be a little bit shorter than my usual list.
But here are five things to watch for, and I hope that this is useful for you today. One, don't be surprised with an anaretic sun in Cancer that is about to traipse into Leo and burn up Jupiter. And the moon in Scorpio. Remember, the moon is the host of that anaretic sun in Cancer that is about to swallow Jupiter. If there are not some real, there's some real wisdom being cultivated around family and emotional dynamics right now.
I could see this as events that sort of tip the scales of karma, of karmic balance, of balancing out old patterns, the balance books mysteriously being worked out. You know, the ledgers being adjusted or something around family karma, around places that are more emotional to us and more vulnerable, I would not be surprised that this involves fathers and mothers, family history, living environments, small places that feel like home or that have the features of family-like bonds. So watch for those dynamics to be especially loud today and tomorrow, and maybe involved somehow in the Jupiter-Pluto opposition.
The second thing on my list is that this is a slow burn. The Jupiter-Pluto opposition between now and the full moon is a full week of a slow burn, and so today may be something. It may be the kind of thing where this happens to me all the time. When a powerful transit is coming through that lasts a little bit longer, there's a moment at which you start to go, "Oh, okay, I'm entering into another one of these little vortexes." You know, I call them like wormholes, rabbit holes, whatever you want to call them.
Like there's a vortex of transformation. Circumstances are changing. My inner landscape is changing, my thoughts are changing, and relationships are changing, and I can feel it. Ooh, something on the burner is starting. The water. The bubbles are coming. The boiling is starting. You get that feeling that the tea kettle's whistling, whatever other image you can come up with, but you may just start to notice that those forces are starting to gain power and momentum today, and that is an indication that it is time, at least for me, it is time to take very seriously that I need to manage my energy.
I need to manage my time. I need to manage my psyche. That means for me, like for example, I'll just give you exactly this kind of thing starts happening, and I start going, oh, I'm in a transformational window. I'm not going to put things in my body right now that I know will throw me off a little bit, even if it's not a lot. But I'm going to be extra careful about that. I'm going to be extra careful to get sleep, to take care of my body, to make sure I'm hitting my meditation, maybe even twice a day, to just be a little bit more fortified and protected.
In other words, because you know you're entering into a vulnerable space where transformation is at hand. It's a fated or destined moment. You can feel it. So this is a time where your practices were built for this kind of space. Can you drop into the right alignment with the moment? Number three is watch the Scorpio house in your chart for more clues.
By that I mean, when the moon is thought of by ancient astrologers as the weaver of all of the planets and their significations into our lived experiences, because the moon moves faster than any other planet, and as her light waxes and wanes, and she connects more fluidly and more quickly than any other planet through aspects, she is said to be the weaver of circumstance. This is why she's used in horary as a basic barometer for the daily flow of events in an up to the minute kind of chart casting that horary is based on.
So the moon is like a primary tool in horary. The same thing is true on a day to day basis. If you really want to know how the astrology is going to go on any given day, even when there's major aspects in the sky, look at what the moon's doing. There's a reason that today, as the moon triggers Jupiter Pluto, that you might even feel it more than you did yesterday. Maybe the bottom line though is that the moon is weaving things together, and so the place from which the moon is doing the weaving can become an important staging point for the action of the transit.
That means look at the whole sign house of Scorpio in your birth chart, or if you use Placidus or quadrant base, just look at that house in your birth chart for clues as to like a hinge point around which the Jupiter-Pluto opposition is swinging. Is that the right? Yeah, I guess things swing on a hinge. That also means anticipate that if difficulties are coming up there, tend to them with care, give a little extra love and attention to the things that are popping up around the topics of the House of Scorpio.
The next thing on my list is that if there have been big events in your life in say the past week, and they've been real strong showings of some of the astrology in the sky right now. Whether that is the Mars Venus square that's in the sky, we haven't even talked about that. We're going to probably do that tomorrow. Or if it's the Jupiter Pluto opposition, whatever the case might be, maybe big things have happened.
A lunar transit like this from now up to the full moon might be taking you from initial event to ramifications of that event, which means how things are playing out, or kind of like the aftermath of an initial event. A lot of the times, people actually experience the astrology in the days or even about a week leading up to a big event. It'll be like a week prior to a transit as it's closing in that you go, wow! Something really popped.
And then as the transit comes through, it's more like the natural overflow responses, wisdom, insight, or changes that the ramifications and changes that come from an initial planetary event that's being signified by something like Jupiter opposite Pluto. So watch for that. Watch for the moon and its square to Jupiter and Pluto today. For those of you who've had big events, maybe in the past days or week, watch for this today to be like a place of fallout.
Now we're seeing some ramifications or choices that have to be made, or changes or shifts that have to come because of an event that recently happened. That would be very normal for the moon's placement today. Remember, first quarter moons are also, in general, about the changing plot line dictating that circumstances have to change or adapt because of the plot line and its needs or desires. This is because the sun is in the superior position to the moon.
So what that means for us right now is that wherever the plot line is taking us, there may be some very significant adaptations that are coming, and you could look at those adaptations as things that have to change or shift because of the direction we're trying to move in, and you might also get clues by looking at the whole sign house of Scorpio as to where the adaptation has to take place so that the continued direction may unfold.
Those are simple tricks for looking at how the moon in Scorpio today might be affecting you personally, and then number five would be look. There's a lot of Pluto in the sky with the opposition to Pluto, with the coming full moon with Pluto, with the sun opposing Pluto, with the moon in Scorpio squaring Pluto. That usually means that there's going to be some powerful moments of death and rebirth.
As much as it kills me to say that phrase, cliched as it is, death and rebirth. We all need little shirts. The death and rebirth usually means that something is expiring or has to be let go of. There is a relinquishment, a loss, and a fallout or a natural release. Pluto is as natural as everything that comes to be will pass away, and what we learn and what the purpose of life is is as much about the process of death as it is about what is something to become.
We only think about life in terms of what it is to become, but we don't think about the purpose of life in terms of what the meaning of the death is and how death teaches. That is not usually literal, by the way. So I don't mean to scare people in saying that. A lot of the times, you know, death in this sense is figurative, metaphorical, just like the death card in tarot.
Look, that's what I've got for you today. It's a powerful lunar day. It's a good one to track. I hope I gave you some useful little nuggets here on this fine day, as I'm actually recording it, and you are all forced to acknowledge my birthday for like the fourth time in a week. I'm just kidding. I'm gonna go try to relax now.
Thank you for listening. I hope you're having a really good, blessed day, and that you're taking care of your heart. Whatever's happening in the sky, all of these things. What does it mean if we're not taking care of our hearts? And if we're not, as my wife likes to say, tend to the living things first. So, are you tending to your heart, your sweet little heart? Are you tending to the hearts of those you love?
That doesn't just mean I don't know taking a bubble bath. It could, but it also means forgiving yourself if you need to be forgiven. Look, we do some shitty things, all of us, and sometimes you just need to forgive yourself and do the best you can to learn and grow. But also like take yourself off the hook if you're being hard on yourself. Forgive others too.
It feels so good to like really deeply say, I know. Even if you can't, sometimes you can't really forgive someone and continue having a relationship with them at the same time. You can just forgive them in your heart. But when I see a lot of what's in the sky right now, I think the worst thing in the world is holding a grudge at this point. If you can let go and forgive yourself and others, I think that's going to do wonders for us right now. So, just a thought. I hope it's useful. Have a great day. Bye.
