What happens when the part of you that seeks peace, harmony, and connection suddenly catches fire? Venus moves through the world looking for beauty, reciprocity, and the slow art of relating. But every so often, she finds herself dropped into a terrain that asks something entirely different of her. When Venus enters Aries, she trades the diplomat's table for the warrior's camp. She doesn't stop being Venus—she still wants what she wants—but now she wants it the way a flame wants oxygen: immediately, directly, and without negotiation.

This particular ingress, however, carries something more layered than the usual tension between relating and asserting. Venus enters Aries just as Saturn and Neptune are separating from their recent conjunction, which means she walks straight into the space where reality and reverie recently collided. If you've spent the last several months trying to discern what is worth building versus what is ready to dissolve, Venus now arrives to give that tension a voice. She embodies the ache of wanting something that may not be possible, the impulse to reach for someone or something even as a part of you suspects the timing isn't right, and the strange clarity that sometimes only emerges when desire meets a hard limit. This is not astrology about what will happen to you. It is astrology about what is already moving through you.
There is a particular kind of wisdom that only comes when longing and limitation occupy the same room. Venus passing through the Saturn-Neptune terrain this weekend asks nothing more than that you sit with what you actually want, stripped of both cynicism and illusion, and let that wanting teach you something about where your life is genuinely trying to go.
As Venus moves through Aries and meets Neptune first, then Saturn, you may notice your desires burning hotter even as your circumstances feel more defined or restricted. This is the work of the moment: not to resolve the contradiction, but to let it shape you. Some things clarify only in the friction between what we dream and what is real. Over the coming days, pay attention to where you feel both the impulse to act and the wisdom to wait—that space between is not confusion. It is incubation.

Hey everyone. This is Adam Elenbaas from Nightlight Astrology [https://nightlightastrology.com/].
Today we're going to take a look at Venus entering the sign of Aries, one of the traditional places of her exile or detriment. We'll talk about why that is, and what you actually have to think about and maybe worry or not worry about with that. A lot of the times, dignities are really misunderstood. So hopefully, we'll shed a little bit of light on the dignity of Venus and Aries, but also, as soon as Venus enters Aries, she's meeting Saturn and Neptune, as they are just recently separating from their conjunction.
This is a bit of a reiteration, or one of those kind of aftershock waves that comes in, similar to the kinds of events that happen to reactivate an eclipse point. Venus entering the space of the Saturn Neptune conjunction is, in a way, helping carry the meaning of that event forward. So we're going to take a look at that today with a list of five things to watch for, and sort of break this down. That is our agenda for the day.
Before we get into it, as always, remember to like and subscribe, share your comments, your reflections. Tell us what you're thinking about and what you're experiencing. You can find transcripts of any of these daily talks on my website. That's nightlightastrology.com. I'm going to take you over there, because we have a few promotions today.
First of all, if you are in the Minneapolis St. Paul area, tomorrow night, Friday night, we have an event taking place at the New City Center. Go to In-Person Events under the Events tab, and you'll see that we have a night of meditation, a little bit of movement, some time to process. If you ever come to our Silent Sundays, they actually come from this exact type of event.
It's a really nice time, especially if you've been in the Twin Cities area over the winter. There's been a lot of intense things happening here. So we're hoping to hold space, this is free, and just get together and do a little meditation and talking and processing of life together. We have a really sweet little format that we follow. You can check it out here, but come out, bring a friend. RSVP to let us know you're coming so we bring enough treats, but otherwise it's free and just something we do to give back to the local community here. Kind of a good time for it. I really do think that, and I'm hoping we'll have a good turnout here.
The other thing that I want to let you know is that other free thing we have is every day you can come meditate with us in the mornings, 9:30am Eastern Time, Monday through Saturdays, 11:30 Eastern Sunday mornings. It's like quiet church on Sundays. We get together for Silent Sundays and do a bit more group processing. So usually it's just half an hour in the morning, 20 minutes of meditation, a little centering meditation, a little centering to begin, little thought for the day, and then we sit for a while. So that's all free. You can join us on Zoom. The links all there under Daily Meditations, under the event page. Those are free things we offer to try to give back and help you deepen your journey with astrology, pairing it with some intentional self-care, spiritual practice.
Our immersive retreat to Mexico in June is on. People have been asking about it. There's been some unrest in that area, as far as we've been told by the retreat center. And everything we've been monitoring looks like everything is stable, thankfully. And we're at this point, since it's in June, we're going to go forward. We'll keep our eye on what's happening down there. But yeah, we're going forward with this retreat. So the retreat is set for June. We have spaces left. Registration ends next Saturday, so the 13th, 14th are your last days to register. Next week, hope to see some of you there.
And then don't forget that next week, I'm giving a talk on the first house. If you go to Live Talks, you can see my talk for the month on the first house is listed there for March 12 in the evening. If you can't attend live, you'll get the recording later. So that's the latest at Nightlight. Thank you for letting me run our promotions for the day. Let's get into the astrology.
And what I want to point out is that between today, Thursday, March 5 and tomorrow, Friday, March 6, Venus is going to change signs and enter into Aries. This is traditionally one of the places of her detriment. We'll talk about what that means. And you know, is that something to worry about or not, or like, what? What is that bad? If you have it in your chart, is it bad? People always get a little freaked out by dignities. But anyway, as we take it forward over the weekend, the first conjunction will happen with Neptune on Saturday. The second conjunction with Saturn will happen on Sunday, March 8. So we have a sequence of events back to back that takes Venus through the reactivation of the Saturn Neptune dynamic. That's what we're going to talk about today.
Now, first of all, before we get into my list of five things to watch for, I want to talk a little bit about why we say that Venus is debilitated in Aries. It's really simple. All the planetary dignities work according to oppositions between the natures of the planets. So the signs of Venus are opposite to those of Mars. If you take Venus and her home sign of Libra, for example, and put it in Aries, the opposite sign, which is the sign of Mars, she is said to be in her detriment or her exile. All that we really mean by that is that Venus is having to act and behave like herself, but she's being put in an MMA cage fight arena, you know, rather than a space like Libra, which might be more like a nice dinner with friends.
So sorry, that's a really silly image, and it does not mean Venus is screwed. It does not mean that's a bad Venus. It means that Venus, in a Mars-ruled temple and environment, is going to experience a kind of strain, because the environment is contrary to her own nature. That does not mean that no synthesis is possible, or no interesting blending of Venus with Mars qualities. Of course, anyone who's seen enough charts knows that my wife has Venus in Aries. She's quite entrepreneurial, she's quite active, and has always been involved in, like, women's circles who are standing up and advocating for each other as leaders in the community. She's always been interested in that kind of like Joan of Arc, feminine warrior energy. There's nothing wrong with that.
She would be the first to tell you, it also comes with some problems, right? And anyone who knows the language of dignities well knows that it's just meant to help us understand nuances and tensions when one planet is in the domicile of another. So is this a bad Venus? No, not at all. But you know, you have to know what kinds of tensions come with Venus in Aries, especially given that she's getting hit by a conjunction with a fallen Saturn or Neptune, or in the space of their recent conjunction. So what follows is a list of five things to watch for given all of this.
Let's start with Venus being in her detriment. What this really means is that the natural qualities of the polar opposite sign of Libra like harmony, diplomacy, the natural Venusian sense of flow, ease, receptivity, charm, likeability, social tact, all of these things can be a little strained. That does not mean bad. It does not mean that what is happening is not necessary or even positive. However, the tension may still be there that can show up as things like impatience in your relationships, or, you know, more of a selfish, and I don't necessarily even mean that that's bad, but just more like a selfish interest overriding compromise. The "me first" impulse of Venus in Aries can interfere with collaboration, and not even intentionally.
You know, sometimes it has to kind of react and be impulsive and then check itself and go, "Oh, that kind of lacks some tact and diplomacy." Doesn't mean you can't smooth things over. The attraction to intensity or risk or conquest in things that are attractive but might be a little bit like a moth to the fire in terms of the riskiness. Venus in Aries sometimes brings that up. My desire, my desire for what I find attractive or appealing, what I want, ooh, that like I'm attracted to something like I'm off to the flame.
Now there may also be a hard time softening, yielding, negotiating, compromising, flowing around something rather than bashing your head into it, head first, because of desire or because of a more uncompromising kind of individualistic quality that Aries carries. So heightened passions can burn fast but may not endure. That's a very like hot, fast, bright, but not necessarily lasting quality of Venus in Aries that can be a little impulsive. These are all the things you have to watch for just given Venus in Aries. So let's just start there, because that's the first foundational building block of the delineation.
Let's build into the conjunction with Saturn, even though it comes second in order over the weekend on Sunday. Let's start with this, because I think it will help to get into this first. They're moving through the space of both of these planets, Saturn and Neptune simultaneously. Saturn is going to bring the gravitas, the seriousness, the boundaries, the consequences, the sense that things are weightier and more consequential, and sometimes fear. Now for a risk-taking, impulsive Venus, that can feel like real contractive restraints or really heightened risks or really intense confrontations with limits or authority, for example.
There may be a sense of emotional withdrawal or standoffishness in relationships fueled by conflict, for example. Or you may be running up against a hard limit around something very Venusian. It could be limits in love or sex or intimacy or friendships, where you're just hitting a wall, the sense that what I want is meeting with some hard reality of what I am obligated to or what is responsible or dutiful. And that's a really hard tension, maybe for Venus meeting Saturn. There can also be maturity tests for Venus in relationships, or for Venus with respect to desire or pleasure, like moderation, for example, or reeling something in that's more impulsive and burns too hot and fast and is too risky.
The sense of being lonely and alone on an individual path of burning desire, but without the appropriate sense of outlet or the ability to satisfy the desire. This is also maybe one of those "define the relationship" moments where it's like, is this thing dissolving, or is it forming? Financial restraint, budgeting, or anything that has to do with regulation of material appetites, energies, resources can come up with Venus hitting Saturn. So keep that in mind, because that's kind of the reality principle.
But at the same time, the conjunction with Neptune brings up almost a polar opposite set of themes. Neptune is lingering around Saturn, like this veil, or like a thinning of the veil around what appears to be a concrete boundary. So there's the potential for a kind of ache and sense of limit that's accompanied by a powerful romantic projection or idealization, or a really tremendously powerful sense of longing or desire that's amplified by Neptune, but then made to feel even more limited or stifled by Saturn.
There can be unclear boundaries that exist around Venusian things, whether that's pleasure or spending, anything material or sensual, or relationships or love. This is a very like illicit love affair kind of transit where the love affair might be with chocolate or caffeine when you're trying to quit, but it could also be, I don't know, with a co-worker or something, and you're in a relationship already. So you do have to be really careful, because the sense of longing for something that is impossible in some way is present in this configuration.
If you idealize something about someone, and then you have to meet with a hard reality about what they actually are, that would be really appropriate for the combination with Neptune. There can also be a very powerful sense of artistic inspiration, alongside of not knowing exactly how to put it into form, like negotiating inspiration and putting it into form, or giving it a tangible space to manifest. And also anything that has to do with getting clear on truth, clarity about what is real or unreal, like all of that is in line with Venus meeting Neptune and then Saturn.
Let's get into the next element of this delineation, which is the literal element. That wasn't intentional, but there we go. So it's fire. Now this is where Venus in Aries can actually spark conflict and arguments, but they're typically around unmet needs or desires. What is going to make me happy? What do I want? What do I crave? What do I need for the sake of happiness or fulfillment on some level, bodily, emotionally, sexually?
And arguments or clashes of will or authority can come up. Power dynamics or differentials or struggles can occur because there's unmet needs or desires or cravings that are being addressed differently, or that people are struggling to work out. There can be a sense of passion that's complicated in a relationship with things like anger or competitiveness or ego. You can act on something you want or desire before you have total clarity, because the fire is so hot, things can happen abruptly.
You can cut ties or move on or sever things in a Mars-ruled sign, usually because of what you want or what you're not getting, or some sense of relational stress or strain, and you can, rather than negotiate, just cut ties too abruptly, burn bridges, so to speak. And then anything that is creative but potentially impulsive, and having a hard time sorting out, do I act? Is it responsible to act? Is this an illusion? Can I trust what's coming through? The lack of clarity is normal for Saturn Neptune.
And then finally, let's think of this as a kind of Saturn Neptune aftershock or aftermath, because the conjunction has just occurred. They're just separating now. And as they are just separating, Venus is the next planet to reactivate their connection. And so that merging of Saturnian realism and Neptunian dreaming, the sense of something being concrete versus something dissolving, that juxtaposition, is really strange with these two planets. And so this could be a time where you're actually grieving something that's collapsed, and you're living in kind of like the aftermath of it.
There's a feeling of something being complete. I have a close friend of mine who's going through a divorce, and I can almost imagine, I have no idea if this would actually happen or not, I'm just kind of imagining like someone going through a divorce and moving into that new apartment and just sort of being like, wow, I'm now on my own, and it's a new chapter, and there's a sense of something new that's crystallizing. Well, something old is maybe you're able to grieve it at a deeper level, because you've actually entered that new apartment. Now, I know that's kind of heavy and Shakespearean, right, but you get the idea.
Where illusions have recently collapsed, there might be something new that you're experiencing in the wake of that collapse that feels new and fresh and exciting, but it's born of the strain of recent disappointments or difficulties. Now, if you are attempting to make some kind of dream or desire or artistic inspiration concrete, if that's been a part of your Saturn Neptune experience, this might be almost like the first creative seeding of that imaginal stirring. So Saturn Neptune has been stirring your imagination with new forms, new structures, new possibilities that you want to make real, then Venus passing through might give first voicing to it.
If you're feeling torn between cynicism, distrust, contractiveness (Saturn) and something more uplifting, hopeful, rooted in perhaps more imagination or fantasy, you're feeling torn between those two things, Venus coming through may actually clarify that some harmony is possible between them. It's not an easy harmony to get through with Venus in Aries, but Venus can actually bring harmony between these two principles right now. So think of Venus almost as providing us with maybe some initial creative ideas. Maybe they're not easy to enact, but nonetheless, they are creative possibilities for how to marry Saturn and Neptune, so to speak.
This is all about boundaries and relationships, or boundaries around desires, or boundaries with respect to what we long for or want. And if there have been some, let's just say some if there have been deep lessons around what you can trust and what is real and what you can build on, and what needs to be let go of, Venus coming through right now may actually contribute to the process of figuring out what to let go of and what to build on going forward. That's what I'm trying to say.
So I mean, there's like a combination of heat but restraint, and passion but also disillusion or disappointment, desire but also boundaries and restrictions, attraction but also a certain amount of risk and a need to reality check things. All of that can make for quite a powerful experience, especially over this weekend, as Venus goes right through Saturn and Neptune, or Neptune first and then Saturn. So that's what I've got for you today. As always, I hope that it helps you. I hope that it helps you through some really powerful transits here to start our year. That's it for today. We'll be back again tomorrow. Take care, everyone. Bye.
